So i have a Shar Pei puppy he was apparently house when I got him but he is still having accidents. Im really trying hard to get the problem resolved but a couple times i let him out and was outside with him for a good amount of time he wouldn't go infact he would spend a little time outside before running back to the door wanting back in so i had put him back in and moments later he would have went in my apartment its not so much him peeing thats the issue its the number twos i find its happened 2 or 3 times that he has ran to the door early only for moments later to find a number two under the kitchen table. What is your thoughts on those puppy potty training sprays?

Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games kzread.infoUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

On Feb 11th, we got our 8week old Goldendoodle (Baggins). Within the first week he has already learned sit, lay down, and up, he's completely crate trained and barely whines anymore when in it. He has even started to let us know when he wants to go out by ringing his bell (although we aren't trusting him 100% all the time on that). All thanks to Zak! Thank you so much, your videos and techniques have helped my family out tremendously.

LOTS of attention, and playtime. Our Baggins gets the "crazies" around 3pm, and then again at 5pm. He runs around the house and grabs his toys, barks and wags his little tail and bites if we try playing with him. The puppy biting has been the worst, and for that, I would suggest watching his puppy biting video on getting him to lick your hand instead (it's helped so much). Make sure to have puppy proofed areas, and walk away when you're getting frustrated or overwhelmed. He may whine a little bit when you do this, but its better for you and him to learn that it's okay and to calm down (we have had to do this several times when he's uncontrollably biting us or too hyper). Our schedule right now is consistent and hes already learning to sleep through the entire night. If you have any specific questions feel free to message me!

Listen, it doesn't matter if your dog hates you, because you can always improve the relationship you have with your dog. You don't need to judge just how much your dog hates you, if you don't have the best relationship with your dog, or the relationship youw ant, just set about improving it. It's much more proactive than sitting there wondering if he does or doesnt hate you.

a routine is really crucial. our dog always wakes us up on the same time (no need for alarm) to go for potty and also for his breakfast. luckily it's the same time when we need to get ready for work. if he needs to go potty urgently let's say 3 am, they let us know too. it's because of consistency.

Potty training is so frustrating. I have a 16 week old Australian shepherd puppy we save from a very dirt pet store where she was laying in a cage filled with her own urine and feces. We are trying our hardest to potty train but We let her out every our for 10-30 minutes. During that time she won't go potty so we take her inside and as soon as she gets inside she has an accident in the house. Any suggestions?

Take him out of his night crate every 2 to 3 hours to potty... We hung a bell by the door and showed him how to ring the bells to go out to potty.... Either I'm doing something right or this is one smart little puppy!!!

great video Zak! I know you've covered this topic a bit in your book, but could you create an episode about Puppy and litter sizes? Is there truth to the claim that the "runt" of the litter will have personality and health problems growing up? thanks a lot!!

Personally I don't think it makes the personality different, but when we had one of our kittens and she was the runt of the litter she died earlier than her sister due to health issues and we think that this could have been because she was the runt.

My Jack Russell who I lost 18 months ago at age 16 was the runt of the litter. He was a big boy for a Jack and had no health issues (apart from the usual old age stuff like deafness, arthritis and a little eye sight loss). That's my experience.

For two years I had problems with potty training my Newfie mix puppy. It was a nightmare and there were times when I would cry from frustration and really considered finding a new home for him. I just accepted the fact that he would never be potty trained until one day he stopped having accidents. I don’t know what switched on his brain. But life is so much better now. We’re getting a new puppy on two weeks so hopefully all goes well.

Tying them to your hip with the leash is a Great way to pick up on their potty communication. I did it with my first and I should have done it with my second dog but didn't. Her potty sign is über subtle and the little minx will sneak off into a corner to "make water" if I don't pick up on her sign. All she does is stare at me. That's not very clear communication! She stares at me for many reasons so how am I to know which time is for potty? I've started the bell training process for this gal. Other than keeping her at my side I take her out every hour or so (she's a little over a year old) - vigilance is key! I also keep her contained to the room I'm in. I have to move around quite a bit so the leash thing isn't ideal, but an Amazon box converted into a door does the trick for keeping her corralled in my office. I even cut out a window for her and one for the mini Dachshund so they can watch me when I need to leave the room. :D Good to have confirmation that I'm on the right track! My first pup was adopted 8 years ago and a lot of this initial training has been long forgotten.

I use the puppy pads at night, but sometimes Blue, my new 9 week old German Shepherd rips them up. Now I know that is a part of his puppy biting. I take him out every 30 mins and he still pees in the house. I also tried reducing his water amount because he drink too much the first day we got him and threw up everywhere. It did seem to help as he did not pee as much. But sometimes he still manages to get away with it it's very hard for me to keep an eye on him because my mom owns a day care and I have to help out with that but I do my best to watch our new cute puppy. I find your videos extremely helpful and if there is any other new helpful videos coming out I hope they will help me - Emily, 14 from NY

I got my toy/min poodle puppy two weeks ago. He's 10 weeks today. I've been consistent about potty training and he hasn't had an accident in the house in about a week and has never had an accident in his crate at all,, but I don't think he's "getting it." Like I think he would go in the house if I wasn't vigilant about it. At what age can I expect to see him start to understand that he has to go outside to go to the bathroom? He is very good about going almost right away so I think he understands that part of it.

We reward her with small pieces of Turkey. We expect the occasional mistake, but her overall success rate is more than we thought possible. After giving reward we continue to train her to sit using Turkey rewards. Nine weeks old and has learned sit command. She is a pretty Westie sometimes stubborn. Some good tips. But using "training pad sheets" I think are essential. Getting my 3rd dog a new 2.8 yr old Pug trained within a few months or 50 sheets later (or so). No relapse. Only the rare diarrhea mistake indoors..picking up something dirty outside in his mouth. Anticipating when...can be a chore. And dogs don't always do it to schedule to the minute (e.g every night at 6:43 pm). They're "organic". Just like we don't always do it at the same times every day. My Pug gradually learnt to put his #1 and #2 on the sheet. He'd get praise. Then, we'd go outside still and when he did it outside on the grass I made more commotion. He'd get more praise. Then gradually he did it more and more outside. Till he only did it outside. Started with 2 sheets per day (roughly). Scented sheets. :) DOES work!! I think reducing mistakes indoors. VS anticipating and rushing the puppy outside in time. if that is possible. My dog got into the habit of telling me when. Gives me "the look". Comes to find me. Puts chin on my leg and looks at me.

Alibek Gaming Follow main schedule of bathroom time.... When they wake up in morning, take him out to potty. About 10 minutes after he eats, take him out. After he plays, take him out. After he naps, take him out. If he wakes in middle of night still, take him out or place a pad where he sleeps. In spots where he has pee or poo...mix about 2 tablespoon of white vinegar with 1/2 cup of water and spritz the area lightly, it will neutralize his scent and deter him from going potty there again. Keep him contained where there is hard floor as much as u can for easy clean up. (You can just wipe his accident with paper towel then go over it with a sani wipe of some sort, just make sure he doesnt lick it while its wet) STAY CONSISTENT

The puppy is a small breed of dog and we have a massive backyard. We will not be around during the day to let her out to go potty, so should we consider using pee pads while we are not there. She will be in a large puppy pen with food water toys bed and pee pads.

Go with shelter or specific breeder. Less likely to have been a puppy mill scenarios. And don't just get a dog based on their breed either, each breed has a downfall, so choose based on which breed may best suit your lifestyle, there are breeds that don't need a lot of exercise and breeds that need tons, just whatever would better suit your daily routines. Puppies aren't ideal for people who don't have time to train them properly, so sometimes a well trained older dog from the local shelter or pound can be better suited for a person.

Just got my first puppy :3. I've taken care of my mom's dogs but never had my own. I've been watching all of his puppy videos to help me teach my spunky Siberian husky pup and so far they have helped A LOT

I have a 9 week old lakeland terrier puppy called Rosie! Shes doing really well on house training and learning what to chew and what not to. The only thing im struggling with is she is fine playing with people but plays very rough with my other dog (who is too gentle to tell her off!)

Thanks for saying it's the humans responsibility. Makes me pissed when people don't want to put any work into training their dog. My new dog is peeing and pooping in the house but who cares! I'll love her forever anyway

Well, you cannot be responsible for everything. Unless you have a dumb puppy. A lot of dog breeds are naturally smart. They learn in the first two weeks.
