This product kind of seems pointless right? Most if not all 4080 use near 4090 heatsinks as it is correct? My 4080 is nothing special and it's virtually same size as a 4090. I think they mostly reused parts form the 4090 in the 4080. My 4080 on 100% stress load I don't think surpasses like 68-71C and that is with Furmark and CPU stress test together at same time to maximize case heat. I will watch this video but this seems full meme. On a 4090 maybe it would be worth it. But most if not all 4080s are over cooled as is.

Hey Steve, I think this cards "features" would be better suited in an actual case. I speak from the experience of a recent build I did. I replaced all of my case fans with high airflow noctua ones thinking it would help with gpu temps. It actually made it about 5°C worse at the edge temp. I figured out what's happened is my old shitty case fans were getting overpowered by my gpu fans inside the case which created an effective top to bottom airflow pattern. When I got better fans the airflow was now going front to back. My card has ventilation in the front, so now air that was getting pushed out by gpu fans was getting pushed back in and recirculating. This card doesn't have front ventilation which ironically mounted properly could help create good airflow (at least for my build lol)

If I were to guess, the gasket may be there to prevent crashing the GPU core when mounting the radiator. When disassembling it, you were removing the screws from the upper side of the PCB. That would probably make it hard to gauge how much strength should be applied to the screws when mounting the radiator (+ no retention springs for what I've seen).

Next time I am looking for an upgrade I will be looking at the brand. Just adding thermal pads to the backplate does most of that work in shifting my opinion and has the bonus of me now being even more critical of brands that don't or even worse make the back plate an insultaion feature. I also really like the idea of trying to cool components that typically get no attention even if it ends up with mixed results its a nice idea and I do sometimes wonder if other cards die simply because less important components are left to hit high temps.

removal of the X part on back plate and making the hole slightly larger going towards pcb in middle area should help some with cooling on the back part. but ultimately i feel more fins density would help more. there are things to be done to improve besides removal or the 2 smaller top fins. like maybe venting the top and bottom areas better because it does have a slightly rolled over area. not sure if that would effect air flow any. but there is room for lots of improvements on cooler and design i do like the use of thermal pads on front and backsides. maybe a small cooler with heat pipes on back and back side might be a better place for small fans at this point.

Its interesting how there could potentially be a higher temp on the core because everything else is being cooled by the same overall heat plate. I'm also interested in whether those small fans might have more of an impact if the internal fin density is much higher. Tbh I'd take a 3 degree jump on the core and hot spot temps if all the memory and whatnot is cooler than before.
I remember a few AIB models back then with the GTX 500 series that also had a bunch of fans on the side.
I hate to focus on just a few seconds of B roll for the (awesome) workmat, but what an awesome surprise to see Gundam! Gunpla build stream soon to advertise the workmats? Lol
If I understood right, those two fans cools the back plate? They make a small breeze for those back components.
This card looks like it came from an alternate reality where '90s GPUs actually needed fans and a shroud. Name checks out too.
Man, the thunk when it hit the table a little was something else. I'm amazed the table didn't break
I wonder if this card will perform better in a case environment. Especially if a case use bottom side as intake
I figured those tiny fans would work by running slowly while the big main fans were off, at low load, allowing the big fans to stay off for longer maybe allowing less ramp up etc. Otherwise especially adding case fans etc let alone the main GPU fans make sense they do little to nothing lol. That said, I'm more and more curious about Maxsun as a company for sure.
Will yall be reviewing the Thermaltake CERES 500? I just built a computer with one and I would love to see your impressions. I have noticed you have been shouting it out in videos . Thanks for your time and yall do great work.

Thermal Take; I have one of your 2019 cool Mid towers! Don't give up..!!! Great for semi- yearly upgrades, it takes a rebuild well and keeps on WORKING. ( And no, I am not a sales manager from that company) LOL.
In all due honesty this looks like a great model to pin somewhere for those that wish to buy used later on. The internals look robust, the thermals look robust, the whole card does. If I had to bet, it probably lasts the passage of time much better than other cards.

Super interesting. I'm not in the market for a new gpu right now but if I were I would consider this card after the teardown whereas 30 minutes ago I would of not even looked at the brand.
Thanks Steve. This is a cool product. I wouldn't touch it with a ten meter pole, but at least they're trying something different. I think they perhaps should have made some revisions before releasing it, which makes me wonder whether it wasn't properly tested, or whether management just ignored(or never heard) the engineers' or QA's advice.

removal of the X part on back plate and making the hole slightly larger going towards pcb in middle area should help some with cooling on the back part. but ultimately i feel more fins density would help more. there are things to be done to improve besides removal or the 2 smaller top fins. like maybe venting the top and bottom areas better because it does have a slightly rolled over area. not sure if that would effect air flow any. but there is room for lots of improvements on cooler and design i do like the use of thermal pads on front and backsides. maybe a small cooler with heat pipes on back and back side might be a better place for small fans at this point.

The gasket is the most interesting feature to me. It reminds me of the face plates you can get for de-lidding your CPU, where it helps to distribute the mounting pressure from your heatsink, rather than letting it all rest on the die. Was the height of the gasket visibly flush with the GPU die?
They overachieved a bit with the thermal pad. Maybe they went to thick and there is no good contact with the gpu die. But I rly like the gasket around the cold plate. I actually wish they sold these in the States. Worst thing about the card to me is the ' GAMER' branding. But even if performance is slightly affected by the amount of work the heatsink has to do for so many components, this level of build quality and thermal pads should definitely be rewarded.

the gamer branding adds to the overall meme potential of the card, making it far more valuable
Whoever's idea it was at 2:20 to fanspin the GN logo, 100% great choice, that should be in every video from now on. If I missed it in others I'm sorry but I love it.
Given all the things you said i hope you reach out to them to give them this feed back and i agree it built better then most cards i have ever seen.
the best i can offer is seven fans

Not sure its worth the extra $200 but the metallic case and those curved edges are giving me Fallout vibes in the design aesthetic, which is pretty unique and might inspire someone to an interesting build.
