Personally, the Explorer is a better watch than an Oyster Perpetual. Mercedes hand set, iconic legible 3, 6 and 9, sports professional clasp and the design has remained true to its original. 36mm probably easier to get, the 40mm is proving to be very popular.

Air King is only £900 more yet that dial and crown guards plus it’s a standalone model with no configurations to choose it’s a no brainer!

Waited over two years for an Explorer II...eventually had a choice between the white and black dial models. Went with the black dial as it is much more legible. It's my daily, and I think it's an incredibly under rated watch.

I love my Airking it's so under the radar. Doubt I'll ever sell it. I have a new 40mm Yachtmaster with the rhodium dial as well but I think I'll be wearing the AK a lot more as its not too flashy

I got a submariner within 6 months of registering my interest and I had no purchase history whatsoever with the AD. It can be done. I refused to buy another watch for the sake of buying a submariner. So I told the AD, I want the submariner even though they told me it had a long waitlist. I said fine - I’ll wait. Followed up once and hey presto got the call.

Got a black dial Explorer II after 5 weeks last summer, and 10 days of that I was on holiday so couldn't get back. Then got my Explorer 36 after 6 days in October. Turned down an Explorer 40 in Feb and an Air King in March. Thought the good times were back but still waiting for a Rootbeer GMT and currently 3 years in for a Pepsi GMT. Kind of regret not taking the Air King as to me it''s a lovely piece.

I have the black dial 226570 brendan. Underrated watch in my opinion

I was in Harrods 2 days ago and the sales guy told me that they have an Explorer available which I never showed any interest in.

@@BrendanBoswell I’m still quite puzzled as for the last 2-3 years hardly any Rolex AD’s have had any stock for sale but not one of them have gone out of business. Maybe the landlords have let them have a rent free period and the staff didn’t get paid 😂

I waited 3 years for the Polar Explorer. Not worth the wait or 8.5k

In my opinion all of them are overpriced, but once you get in the Rolex game, you have to put this thought aside . I enjoy my Explorer 36 because it's very comfortable , iconic and understated. Good video , thanks!

AK is the one. Dial is black, but not really coz of the yellow & green touches. Not to mention the many whites on the numbers. New Crown guard, new clasp, new sporty case (unlike exp), and, most likely to be discontinued among these 3 !

Sucks. I bought my 41mm Wimbledon two months ago. Actually turned down the fluted and jubilee and they called me when the smooth oyster came in. Just went to that same AD, a Bucherer, asked for a 41mm and 36 mm, green and pink dials OP, and they said no dice. I asked why they had the green 41 on display, and they said Rolex tells them what to display and decides what they allocate and to whom. Getting the Wimbledon was easy, but getting a cheaper OP seems impossible. Might have to get a Cartier Santos instead.

well i've apparently been on 5 different ADs across the country for a Polar Explorer 2 since 2021 !!!!!! Multiple visits, appointments, hours in the car.....gave up round about Winter 2023!!!!

In the UK ? If any of those AD’s are related ie WOS Group the likely hood is you were probably struck off. The simple rule is if you register the same watch multiple times and it’s flagged it’s game over.

Air King is the easiest of the lot and should be a walk-in or 1-2 month wait or find yourself another AD as they are playing games. BTW the Deep Sea (non James Cameron) is an easier watch to pick up than either of the Explorer 2’s that’s a walk in or short wait. Don’t think the white dial Explorer 2 should feature in this video as you said yourself it’s a waitlist timepiece.

OP36 over the Explorer 1 36 all day, the Explorer 1 wears smaller and is too expensive for what it is.

Really, these days, apart from one or two silly models (steel Daytona) secondary prices are reasonable. Let's be fair here, if you're willing to spend £9k on a watch to actually wear and enjoy, you can spend a couple of grand extra. If you're down to a grand or two, don't buy a Rolex at all, buy a Tudor for £3k, buy an Omega for £4k, buy a Christopher Ward for £1000 or so. Will you make money? No, but you can't lose much on a £3k watch can you?

I was called after a month and offered a 36mm explorer but turned it down due to the size. I've also been waiting for 4 months so far for an air king with the same dealer.

Its not that long ago the Rolex OP was 3600, so charging 6300 for a 35mm Explorer is taking the p.

Ooffss....contraversial opinions on the explorer...I think the explorer is an important watch in the line up, historically important watch for rolex...I do get the size issue, the style these days is for larger watches compared with tradition watch sizes....and most people are on that band wagon...
