Loxodont and Clairen were just revealed for the base roster today!

It’s honestly kinda criminal that orcane isn’t already in the base roster, although with him already being in fraymakers and being a flagship character of rivals 1 I can see why they wanted to give the others more spotlight (they should still put him in tho)

He's 100% still coming, but yeah it's wild that he wasn't in the initial 6. We'll see if he makes the base 10 though!

They needed to put ranno first as he has more familiar playstyle to melee players. 1 new character to create hype. And atleast 1 char from each type. And maypul is here so that dan can win rivals 2 tournament at Heat wave.

Of all the rivals characters we could be seeing in this new title, I really hope they add blue Zetterburn. His nspecial could launch upwards and he could jump slightly higher.

Okay, so, unlocked milestones later, lore enthusiast here, I can confidently list: - 7 and 10 are both Returning Fire characters, likely Clairen and Forsburn for the reasons pointed in the video (they have early-seen models, too, but who knows how much value those have)(also we got a glimpse of Clairen's new stage on the rollback announcement pic) - 9 is a Returning Water character. It's Orcane, we saw hints of model work on him...and something else we're not allowed to talk about 🤫 btw, not spoilering cuz nobody played Dungeons anyways, but he's actually a mystical guardian deity from Slade (shark dude)'s homeland. He's basically a mascot, he's the one put into most crossovers, and one of the first two characters designed, so, I am admittedly surprised he wasn't a shoe-in. - 8 is a NEW Fire character, meaning either somebody actually brand new, or an existing character much like Fleet, in which case, I could see either Artemis or Loxodont, leaning more on the latter, personally Artemis' totally gonna be in no matter what, but maybe not before Slade?? He's the popular one, but I'd take her any day of the week, she's awesome. Loxo, mostly to FINALLY put him in the game. Additionally, I suspect Etalus (who've seen concept art of + his new stage) and Absa (who also has a new stage) are shoe-ins for early DLC.

Yeah I was thinking about too, but with the OG 4 being MIA (until that Orcane leak from Amsa's stream) it made just think always having the OGs at launch wasn't something to set in stone. So with that thinking, if I were to form a launch six Rivals 2 roster with all the Rivals 1 cast + Dungeons of Aether cast on the table... Maypul wouldn't crack my first 10.

11:25 I think Mollo has one advantage if we're looking at the lore in that he's in the comic, so he has a solidified place in the world. Whether the story will visit that time period at all is entirely up in the air, but I do think he has more story relevance than Olympia or Pomme in terms of what's already established. I don't think he'll be in the base roster (unfortunately), but I'm hopeful they'll be adding him relatively early in the game's lifespan.

I'd be shocked if neither Orcane nor Etalus make it into a full 10 character roster. Orcane was a hold-over from their previous fighting game project and is kinda a founding face for the series. Same for Etalus in his own way, since George and Dan's work in the early days was the foundation for everything else. Maybe one or the other doesn't make it but I will be sad if neither does

Don't worry. Even if they don't make it as Launch Roster; they will most definitely be playble in Rivals 2.

I think that sylvanos Is important to the aetherian forest lore, so i think that probably sylvanos make it in to the roster but not yet, i really want my doggy back in Rivals 2

No matter what, I think we can rule out Pomme now that we have Fleet. I just hope that we get the rest of Rivals 1’s cast (barring guest characters) added back eventually. The character designs in that game were perfect.

Isn’t Maypul Dan’s R1 main? I think that’s part of why her spot is guaranteed. Also. I’d love Hodan intro’d sooner than later. His kit needs a little adjustment so something besides his Up B is a kill confirm The next is probably orcane though. We’ve got no water fighters and we’ve seen his character model at an expo

I am learning more and more that Dan really likes Maypul lolz. Plus development and timelines change, so I didn't want to take the fact that they had a 3D model as an indicator of development progress for them. Though extremely high chance for Orcane to come in this batch of four.

I don’t know a ton about Dungeons, but I could totally see Slade from Creatures being put in as a (more unique than marth 2) swordfighter in a base roster.

Good to see R2 content! A couple of points: While bringing up lore is valid, story mode won't be released at launch. I don't think it's the most important factor to them at this point. In the AMA they said that new characters take far more resources and playtesting to make so it probably won't be a new one. The clairen model has already been revealed as states in the AMA and as of today its confirmed that the 7th character will be a fire character based off of the mini-milestones. I think it'll be orcane clairen fors or absa

Thanks so much! Yeah while low chance (3 Million) for Story Mode to be on launch; I assume the story of chapter 1 is written and they have a basic idea of what/who is going to be in it since they are playtesting it. Yes you are correct they probably won't make a new one, but since it looks like they are prioritizing chars and gameplay over story. Wouldn't be be too farfetched for them to make another new character in a yes. CLAIREN SWEEEEP!!!

I should mention that there is a rivals 2 workshop contest, the winner will get into rivals 2.

YUP YUP! I shall b mentioning that on my next Rivals 2 video!

with the information of today, i'll give you my guess. first, a way to confirm thecharacters i s by looking at the stages, and both merchant port and tempest peak are in the base game. it indirectly confirms that character 9 and 10 are Orcane and Absa respectively, so this actually makes your prediction list wrong and i'm sad to tell you that. but don't worry, it is confirmed that character 7 and 8 are fire nation and character 8 is a newcomer. so with that knowledge let me give you my prediction list. 7) Forsburn: for gameplay and lore reasons 8) Loxodont: while Atermis is a interesting character and frankly it's more likely, i just don't want that all the newcomers come from dungeons, it's not surprising. 9) Orcane: he was leaked and he is important in the first game lore. 10) Absa: i think she is here for her popularity, rather than the lore. Clairen will be back, but is more likely she will be the first post launch character alongside the workshop winner.

Pretty spot on so far, as of right now there two returning characters confirmed, one for fire, and one for water, the fire one is 100% foresburn but even though they did tease Orcane, just because the devs said that Orcane is a pain to animate I could definitely see Hodan taking the water slot and I’m ok with that either Also, I would love Artemis but now that we have Loxidant, who is a similar character, in terms of being a rage filled axe wielder I don’t know if she make it in now 🤷‍♂️

Etalus was my biggest reason.

Two of them are Clairen and Loxodont. Need to find out who the other two are. Hopefully Orcane.

mayple is in bc i think she was created by dan's gf. also i saw somewhere forsburn has his character already made in the code.

My guess is; Zetterburn, Clairen, Forsburn, Maypul, Kragg, Olympia, Fleet, Wrastor, Ranno, Orcane I think the ideal story mode base roster would be; Zetterburn, Artemis, Forsburn, Kragg, Olympia, Fleet, Wrastor, Elianna, Orcane, Slade Zetterburn, Forsburn, & Artemis all have the Fire Empire storyline to bounce of eachother with. Olympia is out searching the world of Aether for other sources of the Abyss's corruption Kragg is just generally an important character due to the Rock Wall's significance Fleet is "the main character" Elianna is her potential rival as shown at the post credits of Dungeons Wrastor & the Air Armada are important And Orcane and Slade have lore that needs to be sorted out

This is a great list and reasonings! With the ingame story being broken up into different Chapters; I bet that the "Water people" aren't going to get much develop until like Chapter 2.

@@DimzNoms yeah fair, probably why Ranno is in the launch roster, he doesnt really have any lore at all as of yet so he's probably set up there to hint towards future water tribe lore

Mine would be the same , Clairen, Forsburn, and Hodan due to their competitive use. I dont see another dungeons character going in (if they do, any of the other three would be cool, Huge hamir fan tho) So my fourth pick is Absa just cuz i see her used in competitive more. And with that I will now make a shrine until my main, Etalus, gets added

I would love to back the kickstarter but I have not found a non clunky character in RoA yet so I would prefer to save my money ... I am a Melee players so I have no clue why everyone here feels so clunky. But hopefully with Big Axe Rage Dragon that can change! *copium* The characters also always felt so function over form. We need a space animal sure! Zetterburn spawns. We need a character Mango likes! Wrastor Spawns. We need a heavy weight! Kragg spawns.

Orcane is definitely next. He just got leaked on Asma’s stream lol

Ngl, I really hope they’re all newcomers or workshop characters. The base rivals 1 characters besides clairen and ranno don’t feel that good to play to me

I personally think you focused a bit too much on the story/lore of the game. They're indeed doing a story mode but it's going to be chapter based, so the important lore characters can always appear at a later date. Another important thing to remember is that they can and probably will make every character somewhat Important in the story, so even Orcane or Etalus can just get a more important role if they're added. So I personally think the more important factor for choosing characters is their gameplay, how unique and how popular are they. So I definitely think Clairen and Forsburn are a lock for that specific reason. Orcane and Etalus have a great shot as well. I personally don't think we'll see another Dungeons of Aether character anytime soon though as Fleet is probably the character to just represent the entire game, I personally think it's more likely for them to add a completely new character or even maybe someone like Loxodont as he's way too important to not be a character at some point, but I doubt it will be base game.

Yeah I focused on the Lore aspect because I was using the thought process of Story Chapters lining up with release windows since that would be a good way to deal chars out. I feel like there isn't a single Rivals char gameplay that IS NOT unique. So using that factor essentially randomizes chars, but as popularity goes-- you don't want to front load you releases with all your popular chars. You would want to disburse to help keep interest in the game. Additionally if they wait a while and see how the gameplay and meta of Rivals 2 hashes out they can then make tweaks to returning chars (new/diff moves) to make them more viable in Rivals 2. Which would make players happy bcuz seeing their favorites in new tools is always fun! Lastly Aether Studios says that they want to support the game indefinitely IF there is support. They would just bring everyone back + add all the Dungeons chars + Brand new chars (Like the new char they plan on adding based on the Workshop contest). So all in all I am very excited for the potential future of Rivals and to make more content for it. Thank you for your comment!

Probably. I am not the best when it comes to pronouncing things lolz. You should hear some of the way I pronounce Pokémon and Manga characters names. My rule is to get close enough to where someone would know what/who I am talking about.
