I personally collect movies not on his level though he's in a league of his own i only have between 1000 to 2000 movies stopped counting at 1200 years ago.

This collection needs more than a 3 minute video!

I think the reason he has such a big collection is that it helps him seal business deals: his job is to build private cinemas so he can use this collection as a kind of a showroom of his expertise and love for the business. Potential clients will be in awe and will be happy when he miracolously also has "their" favorite movie in stock, which they can watch in the projection room which would be the equivalent of testdriving a car before buying it. I really think it's a savvy business move to convince costumers that he is the right guy for the job.

I'm in awe!! Even more amazing to think Scorsese's collection is even bigger (though knowing he's one of the world's great cinephiles, it's not really surprising.) Not only am I envious of the size and diversity of this collection, I'm jealous of the beautiful $$$ shelving system. WOW!

I order my movies A-Z on a shelf too, what a pain when you get a new movie and don't have room on the shelf, you have to move everything down one. This guy probably has the only copy of the Original Star Wars

Leave spaces on each shelf that way you only have a cascading effect once in a great while and then it is just as quick to move a bunch (5-10) at a time as it is to move 1 at a time.

I use to have my collection from A - Z but it was a pain in the ass when you get new stuff...Now i have my collection by decades. 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 010s...It makes it much easier when you get new movies

@@joelsieradzani first research on the internet to be sure the intented film is the category about what I like it. if the film have a high percentage about what I like it, then I buy it.only 5% of times I got it wrong.I am a very strict cinefilo critic:some times don't buy a film just because don't like the actors in it.other times I don't like the plot.other times could be that i dont like the subjet,for example rape,extreme violence,blood,crazy overcomplicated physico mental thrillers, etc. got a huge collection but very happy because only have what I really trully like it and safely be able to pick it up anyone to watch depend of the mood I might be at the time and is 100% guaranteed I won't be disappointed.

I don't know about that either. I still mostly (but not always) buy video discs to actually watch them for the first time or in a brand new experience (even though I very rarely buy video discs). I just like the idea of physically owning the discs. We've (my family has) done it like this since the 90s. But I'm saying like this as a common, casual collector, not like the guy in the video who treats his collection like a video archive. My parents usually gave those DVDs away if friends and family wanted to watch them. Rewatchability is one thing, but sharing is also a thing. It's like sharing video games back in the days. The question is, how can one watch something they've never seen (in full HD) without paying for the expensive price of physical formats, isn't available on netflix, without having to rent it digitally for 48 hours, playable on smart TV, and without having to use piracy. I think the only answer is digital downloads...? That is the only option I can think of. But don't they sometimes cost just as much or even more expensive than physical? All in all I think, in some cases, it still makes a lot of sense to buy physical copies of movies I've never seen. Doing research before buying is a no brainer, I think. But sometimes you are out at a video store and don't have internet access with you and you see movies on sale for 5 bucks and the covers and summaries look interesting and makes you want to buy it. I know that has happened to me at least once and it's hard to regret since they were on sale.

He paid $20 per title? Man doesn't seem like much of a bagain hunter.

That's maybe because he bought them all when they were almost released and new from the store and not used from a flea market. I prefer them new.

I work in film and also love collecting them, after learning about a lot of older stuff in film theory class I started picking up everything that is interesting to me. I think I've got around 120 4k copies and a lot more blurays but I only collect boutique blurays from criterion, arrow, etc. Some just for the artwork. Since movie stores don't really exist anymore, I want to have the same feeling of looking through a library of physical titles and hold the movie in my hands. And because of the artwork that these boutique companies do it's like having a collection of books.

$3K on this days, all DVDs worth nothing today.

I too am a media collector, owning about a third of this featured collection. However despite spending $300,000 above, which may hold its value for the owner, sadly as many of us know in 'real terms' it's only worth a fraction of the original cost. Physical 'in-print' media devalues by approx 50% within first 12 months. If still available after typically 5 years, dependent upon title, a dvd/blu ray can lose 90% of it's bought price. Which is why I only buy 5% of my media brand new, these tend to be specific limited titles only. With many things in life, it tends to be "worth more to the owner than what it can sell for".

The collection is worth 5 grand realistically but 15k titles you would think that bumps the price to $15,0000. If we went through eBay lol I would think there would be a few titles worth some good money and 20grans might be put on hold lol 😅

the library in my area has 10,000 titles and almost all the criterions, and it doesn't cost a dime. And the Scorsese collection is mostly film prints, not quite the same kind of collection.

This is great! My collection is only at 2,000 blu-rays and maybe a 500 DVDs (Television series). This almost makes me wish I kept all my DVDs and VHS tapes.

Very impressive, always having access to movies of the past is vital, many movies are lost to history. He is doing a service for sure, I too collect. Hopefully we can keep this media alive.

remember seeing him in July/Aug 2008 Sound & Vision Meet the father of Home theater still got a copy of it.

I do that too - I'll buy a Bluray version of a DVD and usually get rid of the DVD unless the DVD has features not on the Bluray, in which case to save space if the packaging permits I'll put them into a clear case that can hold multiple discs and I can slide the covers in so they are readable. I love 3D too - when Sony Canada closed its retail stores two years ago I got 3D TVs for each of the rooms in my place that had a TV.

There are a few KZreadrs in the physical media community that have collections which surpass this guy's total. Most people don't understand that being surrounded by the things you love brings you joy and happiness no matter what those things are👍

Ive been collecting most my life but seriously for I'd say the past 4 years I've counted my blu ray/4k collection and most recently when I did that it came out to 738 titles and growing fast that was in november. God I luv movies.

I have been collecting since the early 80s VHS - Upgraded to DVDs in 2000 - upgraded to Blu-ray 2011. My collection consists of 17. 988 titles not including the VHS. Got at least 800 or More VHS.

Yep a few people around the world have bigger physical disc collections of movies than the guy in the video. My collection is larger than the typical person but I only buy movies I like. And trade in any films I buy that I don't like.

I can relate to this guy too much. I have over 3000 CD's and tons of cassette and 8 track tapes. Maybe one day I'll end up on a show like this XD

+sisbrawny As a non-serious collector, it can be an economical way to satisfy that collector "need", and it's a good way for kids to learn about geography and history. When you don't know where a country is, you look it up and when you don't know who a person on a stamp is, you find out. True, the run of the mill flag or bird or tree doesn't tell you much, but a good commemorative stamp can tell you a lot. Plus, they're purty little pieces of paper you can stick in an album. But you must always remember, "Philately will get you nowhere."

His only seen 200 hundred of them! I have around 300 titles and I've seen all of them so technically I've seen more films than him! This dude has a lot of catching up to do

People are quick to judge, but I'm sure going through anyone's finances there would be things that other people think are a "waste of money" or "pointless".

Some people collect books, have huge libraries, most won't be be read, this is similar, but most people don't understand collecting the physical thing as a pastime, to a lot of people, is much better. They don't mind using space, and it isn't classed as an investment to most collector's, you know, a thing called enjoyment!

I got about 25-30 Thousand movies still got all my laser disc and a lot of DVD that never been on blu

Crazy how you can fit all these movies on a single hard drive now.

Cry when the hard drive fails.....like legitimately cry. I had a 4TB full of movies die on me once......Took me months to recover it all. Now it's multiple drives as backup....

HONESTreviews yes but 15,000 movies would have to be compressed ie poorer video quality to be on a very big single hard drive. And no way could you fit a 1000 4k blu rays on a single hard drive. You would need several very very high capacity hard drives. To copy them all with no picture or sound loss.

My storage unit is loaded with about 400 DVDs and 200 mostly rare VHS. I've probably watched 75%. I live in a homeless shelter so it's hard, because my unit is so packed it's hard to reach most of them.

Wow, that's a huge collection 0_0!!! I have around 136 VHS tapes, and compared to your collection, my collection is nothing. It's like that could become a new video rental store with a business license and a building. I wouldn't recommend trying that, getting a business license is impossible. I have almost 23000 although about 2000 are bluray duplicates. Been collecting since 2002. Everyone says I am mad. But it is an addiction. Probably watched 2/3rds of them, which isn't bad I think. I own loads of rare films especially foreign language ones. It's my pride and joy.

Thanks for sharing. Now, I don't feel so bad for having a very large DVD, CD, vinyl record, tape, VHS, books, etc. collection. Some of my friends & family say I should run a store or library with my massive collection, but this Mr. Kalomikaris has me beat with his movie collection! I like that he has a lot of space dedicated just for his movie collection alone & how he has his own personal movie theater room. When Mr. Kalomirakis said that he hasn't seen most of the movies in his movie collection yet, I can truly relate to him. I haven't had a lot of time outside of work to watch all the DVDs I have bought over many years yet either. Anyways, after this video, I don't feel so bad about my large movie collection.

Afonso Lucas These days, Blu Ray players can usually be bought for under $100. If you happen to own an Xbox One or a PS4, you can play Blu Rays (and DVDs) on there as well, so you may not need a player at all if you have those.

Now try collect IMAX for all of them Actually come to think about it, what actually happens to the IMAX tapes after it finishes showing in cinemas?

I have like 2000 - 5000 films in my collection. I thought I had the largest film collection.

There is a guy in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada that has well over 17,000 movies it's up for sale on Ebay right now for 1Million

Did it ever sell? Because you could buy 17,000 brand new movies for less than half that price. Even if you spent $25 per movie, that only adds up to $425,000. Taking off all that shrink wrap might take a few weeks, though.

Pioneer was great at making awesome Laserdiscs.

It's a damn big collection

This guy proves to me that my collection will never be "complete"... What a beautiful collection. Did I see a KZread video with this guy recently where he has this magnificent home theater with a ton of lighting?? Sounds like the same guy, who i think had a Greek name. Anyway...

This will be my collection one day! :)
