In today’s video I’m going to answer the question…what are the "big 3" coloring tools that every beginning colorist needs to try?
🙂Spoiler: the answer is colored pencils, alcohol markers, and gel pens.
I am going to show you how you can use my new Coloring Essentials book to get comfortable with each of these 3 tools, especially colored pencils.
Also…let’s practice blending those pencils with a brief lesson on Jennifer’s Rule of Blending Thirds.
❤️ Don’t miss out on your chance to win one of the BIG 3 in our BIG giveaway that ends September 14, 2022.

Bless you and your work! I went in patient 8/2 and art therapy helped save my life. Coloring is the only thing that has ever stopped my mind. I’m still in IOP and trying to build my supplies. I have found peace.
Again, your hair's GAW-JUSS! I really like that purple color you've had in there, too. I want to try it myself, and the more I see it in your hair, I get closer to doing it!!!!
Love the beautiful purple dress..you look Marvelous in those midtones with vibrant flowers!
I love how you explain things!! Plus you’re so cute when you become excited
Thanks for this hands on lesson. I appreciate it very much. Thanks for the book. I just wish I had the papers. Lol
Coloring bliss is my favorite coloring channel. More power Jenifer and Steve!!
Oh! Good evening Mr. And Mrs. Stay and sweet Rose🌹 Thank you Jennifer. This was a very useful video.
Hi!! Thanks for all the tips! Love your videos. Always learning something new and your recommendations on what to buy is also very valuable.
I forgot to add how much I love and appreciate this book. It covers EVERYTHNG !!!!!!!
Oh my, another book I must have!!! Thank you so much Jennifer for all the work you put into these books and to your hubby too.
Lovely video and Please keep them coming! Wonderful products too!
You are so encouraging and have lots of knowledge which is so helpful. I have a TBI so it is made so easy here. I do both lines and circles.
I love the combination you used for the flower and Jennifer's rule of blending. Always good.
Love this video. Especially the different pencil strokes.
I also color going straight back & forth. I'm so excited for your book & felt so proud when I seen I have all of the BiG 3 items. This practice/ guide is wonderful is gonna help so many along their coloring journey. I've learned so much since I've been watching you. Thank you so much for all of your hard work. Your amazing!
Good job! It helps with the da moments you sometimes get. Hey, I’m an old person! ; )
I love that book, Jennifer. I'm just starting coloring finally.
New to using pencils and markers and find your videos so helpful
Thank you for all you do! Would love your new book!
Love this book!!! Those of us stArting out def need it!!! Thank you
Such a great video. I love your voice ... and Rose's little fish pillow. Thank you so much for sharing.
Such a great book! Need to practice my penciling!
I love watching you colour anything, because it always turns out so beautiful. I just got a tiny set of alcohol markers and I'm colouring mandals with them. It is very relaxing, and I don't have to stress about blending or shading like I do in my other books. It would be so fantastic to win one of the prizes especially the set of Prismacolor, however I'm all the way from Australia, so I'm probably excluded. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and showing your new book. Very exciting! 💗
Really cool. I love the book. You did a really great job of the colouring book. Thank you for the give away.
Purple. My lifelong favorite color. When I was growing up, we often traveled by a house (could see it while we were passing by on the Garden State pkwy), that was top to bottom purple. Like ALL of it. Now this was in the 1970's, but I remember how excited I'd get and would get angrily told by my father to please STOP doing that, he's driving on a highway(!) 😬. But I would pop up and get SO exited, all I kept saying was "When I grow up, that's what I want MY house to look like!", but it would come out of nowhere and give him a heart attack every time 🤣. 51yo and it is STILL my only and all time favorite color (no purple house though, lol, YET 😜💜👍).
I like to use the circles, or scumbling. I feel it gives me more control without absolutely killing my hands.
Hi am new to colouring and saw your channel recently. staring with these studio tours/ i am using budget brand of decotime pencils and splurged on the entire set of black widows . Hope you are well,. love your tour and it gives me lots of ideas how a small space can house so much gear. i am practicing my craft with the jade summer books and considering the nice little town set. anyway thats it for now. take care.
I color in circles, lines hatching and kind of a mix, depending on my mood, but also the effect I want to create. Great video! Very informative, If I could I would definitely purchase the physical copy of the book, refreshing knowledge and doing practice tasks is fun on every level from beginner to professional in my opinion! 💕
Hi Jennifer brilliant upload very informative loving your Chanel tysmfs 🥰
Nice book. Thanks for doing the examples.
I am quite new to colouring, but I like to color with a dull pencil in circles. But I ´ve got soooo much to learn, especially layering! Thank you for this video!
Thank you Jennifer!
I absolutely love your videos!

Your channel was the very first I subscribed to when I started my colouring journey. PS I would love to win the alcohol markers. I still haven’t started using them yet but want to learn how.
Wow what great prizes I would love Any one of these
Must go, notes to write. Will continue to watch later tonight.
I love to mix all 3 "tools" together, although I also do pictures in just one medium. Always enjoy your tips and resources. Started using gel pens, then markers, and now pencils. Usually lines, but it depends on the medium. Do you ever use hatch marks?
Half circles half straight lines. I am a beginner so I'm learning slowly what I like best.
Love it 🥰
Just ordered the book!
The book looks amazing (the lessons but also the layout/color, gorgious book). Saw that you have some of your pencils in sets of 2, is that new? Feel i missed something.
You are amazing! I’m really struggling with depression and this looks amazing!

I've been there, too. Coloring has helped me get moving more than the last half of my life (I'm now 63). Find a good doc. Shop around if you have to. That's how I found mine. Best of luck!

I’m 66 and finally with the right people-very fortunate!!! 😊
Wow so nice on the giveaway. Thank you.
Both lines and circles depending on what Im coloring. I prefer lines,. Much easier for me to shade.
Wow i wish i can win the giveaway! your book is so useful i'm really dying here i want to have it beside the OLO Markers or Prismacolors. Thank you for everything
I'm a lines color-er. Coloring in small circles requires more patience than I have 😄
💜💜💜tfs💜💜💜 my husband is convinced I swatch more than I colour.. hahaha he thinks he's funny! I usually colour in lines all one way and then wait to dry and do second coat the other way 90degree turn, so I guess a cross hatch kinda? I don't colour with pencils yet, so I might try circular with those?
I use both methods but I’m still finding my way xx
I would really love to win the pencils and book would really help in my coloring journey. Thank you for doing such a great giveaway
That book seems really teachable to those just starting out
Thanks guy's & sweet rose.
I try to color in circles, but i cannot get used to it, so happy to hear that you are also a line colorer . So now i can stop to try and Just color in lines 👍😂
I color in lines mostly but I try circles
For me it really depends on what I'm coloring. I typically do circle unless it's a very large area and then I lay it on the side and do more layers.

exactly!
I color both ways but I prefer circles.
I colour in circles to eliminate start and stop lines
I use both circle and lines. It depends on what I'm coloring. When you hold the pencil on the side, can you cross hatch that way?
I subscribed to your channel. I heard someone say it is best not to buy maximum pencils in a set. Example Prisma color 150 count. They said it is best to color with small sets. What would you recommend the largest sets to buy like 72 count etc.
Hi Jennifer and Steve! I know that you offer customizable swatch books. My question is, do you offer branded swatch pages to add to your custom swatch books?
Hi where would I go to buy or look at your books
May I ask the name of the colored pencil case you are using in this video?
I tend to color more linear (lines) than circles.
I color in circles and lines
I Like your Videos
I color in straight lines
Hello. Thank you for the details of your new book and the tips on how to use the colour pencils. I am a bit disappointed that you mostly talk about the book rather than the tools. I know I can buy the book but I was hoping from the title of the video that you would talk about how to use ALL THREE TOOLS. Please do create a video that actually focuses on the usage of the big 3. As a new colourist I would appreciate seeing how the three different tools work before investing in all of them. Thank you. Hugs to Rose!
Is this give away for US only or World wide?
Most of the time i use small circles
Streith lines
I have a? When you have a over lap of feathers like say an eagle would you put a lighter tone coming from the top of the overlap. I’m trying to color wings in like realistic way

The short answer is yes, the top layers are typically lighter. The long answer depends on where the light source is. If you need more help, we have 4 lessons in our Coloring Academy all about mapping out light source, shadows, and highlights.
Mostly color with circles, it seems to happen naturally for me.
I'm both...
Jelly rolls for sure
I want to sign as a free member for a month but cannot go back to the page. Help!

Circle and lines.
Please let me know how can I talk to you
Why won’t you tell us what kind if paper you use? If I go into an Office Depot and ask for colored pencil paper they won’t know what on the world I’m asking about and neither will I. This is holding me back and I would like to resolve this.

Sorry to frustrate you…maybe you are new to our channel? I have a video where i share that information. I believe it’s called Best Colored Pencil Paper (something like that). We also share the Amazon links to our paper on a regular basis, or you can always send an email to us and we can share the links that way. It’s definitely not a secret, it’s just that i worry it will bore everyone if i repeat that information in EVERY video.
