The album "Cross" by Justice from 2007 is an incredible album that uses 3 distinct sampling techniques - but that's not quite what makes this album so good. Let's dive into the samples, the production, and the musical world of Justice's debut album.

Well done stuff (as per usual). Thanks Greats!
Man you gotta do a video like this for The Avalanches "Since I left you!" That album needs so much more recognition for it's incredible sampling!

Great suggestion! I remember picking that album up when it came out. I was blown away. After having been blown away by Endtroducing, Since I met you just took sampling to a whole new level.
I used to bump D.A.N.C.E and Genesis so much when I was young and I still revisit this album to this day. I’m glad you covered it

Was not expecting a video on this one! Great surprise. This album got infinite play at the record store I worked at back in 2008
I remember seeing in an interview, they spoke about why the compression is so harsh. They said they simply didn't know how compressors work, so they overdid it with the threshold and makeup gain. Sounds amazing today as it did when it came out.

I also remember fellow French artist and label mate at the time, SebastiAn, getting some credit for introducing them to heavy use of compression. Important thing to remember about the French electronic circuit is that these guys share tips and methods with each other. French touch is heavily connected

This album caught me off guard 4 years ago and you are right. There is no way to just listen to one track. You can feel robbed if you don't finish the album. I love it. The speed, the brightness, the beautiful violence of the strings throughout. Ohh! Ohh my. It's nearly narcotic.
Also they killed it at Coachella this year!!! They have some videos you can watch on KZread.
Doing the Newjack sample chops live was absolute madness. Cheers to you mate.
Not only their music is good, their show is amazing. I had the chance to saw them live the other day and oh God, all the lights and movements are so full of little details, just like the micro-samples of this album. If you can, you need to see them live at least once in your life.
Love that you also do electronic albums, much respect!
Ate shroom's once with this album & man did it bing me back to the 1st ever time listening to it. It made it sound so fresh & raw.

So amazed this track is being broken down by you! This came out when I was studying sound engineering and I brought it in to show the staff. They were so jealous and all went red in the face. It was such a new sound that really influenced plenty of music afterwards. Everyone wanted that chorused bass sound, distorted hats, white noise snare, quickshot samples and heavily artistic sidechain compression.
@Artersa
16 күн бұрын
Interestingly a lot of that was going on in drum n bass (distorted hits, heavily chorused bass), but applied to the template of house/disco it takes on an entirely new form. Love Cross, it’s so heavy and full!
Justice’s Cross is a REAL f cking 5 🎤/ GOAT album. This project is the Dilla Donuts of electronic music. Excellent breakdown.
This is one of those albums that is so perfect that despite not being that into the style in general it shines through so strong it can't help but be a favourite
So happy Justice is getting some love here. I think another sample on Stress right after the intro is Night On Disco Mountain by David Shire.

Would have never known these things about this album without you. What a beautiful sonic tapestry Justice created, an album I'll listen to as long as I live.
"Stress" gonna stress me up?? Never in my life! I love "Stress", I always listened to it to calm myself down in trains 😅
Loving how far this channel has come, that you are breaking down the art of sampling across all Genres, and that you are giving shine to "Newjack" because that song slaps and these yougins need to learn of its greatness. 👏🏾

Didnt expect you to cover anything related to Justice. Thanks a lot!!!
This is one of my all time favorite records!!!! Thank you for covering this!!!!
Wow, Ive stumble across this video yesterday and watched a couple others on your channel since. This is amazing! I have always loved album analyses, but these are just on another level. Ive literally had tears in my eyes a couple of times simply because you made me realize how beautiful these albums actually are and how much love and thought there is in it that is just in it because the artists enjoy it and don't even care if it gets discovered or not.
On the same day as the new album? Nice timing! Also, thanks for all the new tracks to add to my Spotify Playlist! Have to pause every so often just to do so before I forget, lol.
Thanks for shining a light on and breaking down "Cross"! It's always been a great listen. Looking forward to their brand new album.
Justice's Cross album is in my top 10 to this day. Amazing breakdown and resampling work btw
Deeply enjoyed this video. Your deconstruction and revelation has been very entertaining. What a great show of appreciation for an album that is hugely adored.

I was the producer for the band Lowenbad. I used micro sampling all over their album. There’s samples all over it that even the original artist wouldn’t be able to pick out.
Great vid! This is the one album that made me fall in love with electronic music and the process from Justice is even more insane than I thought. Thank you

Awesome video, thanks for the work ❤
Amazing video. It feels so good to analyze and understand and album that I listened so many times.

I remember buying this cd when it dropped lol This album is one of my favorites off all time. Thank you so much for covering this album. Salute to you. Salute to Justice.
This was a really cool watch. Just subbed!
Great video mate. Hugely enjoyed that.
The way you break everything down into processable chunks is insane. This channel is goated and honestly underappreciated, you deserve so many more subs.
I haven't checked in here in a long time, being ensconced in your Patreon DTGs solely!. Congrats, on the 348K subscribers, almost 18K views in one day for this vid, and highly relational and classy representation of your sponsor Tracklib. Damn Brandon - DGT is taking off!!!! ❤
I am a Justice fan hyped and excited by the new album, and the glorious algorithm brings me here. FANTASTIC VIDEO. New subscriber.
this is so fire your love for music shines through
400 Samples? Jez!!! That's more than what The Beastie Boys did with the album "Paul's Boutique". I'm also surprised you didn't mention Jay-Z sample "D.A.N.C.E" for his classic jam "On To The Next One".
Thank you for another wonderful lesson, Professor! 🙏🏽💯
This one's great as always!
Amazing breakdown per usual
Great work. Another great video. Justice's new album is Dope AF! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’ve always wanted to know more about this album. To me it’s just a masterclass of electronic production. Thankyou
I love your channel. Discovery of the year.
Crazy dope video bro!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Stress is such a god damn amazing song and now that I know what they sampled it’s even better for me
you really nailed this one Sir! great video
Well researched and presented, dude. Salute 🫡
My favorite album of all time. Thanks for this.
So happy to see some Justice content!
thank. you for giving this the recognition it deserves!
Incredible content my man.
This and other songs on this album were my ringtones back in the day. Discovered Justice while digging into French music tangential to Daft Punk.
Thank you for introducing me to a new artist I've never heard of. I'll be binging the group on pandora this whole weekend
Great video! I've listened to this album hundreds of times and I didn't even know some of this stuff was samples. 400 samples, sampling every note of a chord from different songs, holy shit. Insane stuff.
My friend gave me this CD about what feels like 20 years ago. It always hypnotized me.
Thanks for this great video. The minute I heard their intro, I was hooked. It sounded fresh and original in a time we heard a lot of rock-punk-disco tracks. This is a true timeless album because it still sounds fresh and original!
THIS IS AMAZING!! I LOVE IT!!
Seeing them in about a month live, the perfect time for a video such as this to deepen my appreciation of their craft
Your videos are second to none dawg
I PAUSED THE VIDEO @ 0:00 BECAUSE I KNOW (just like your other videos) IT IS GOING TO BE INCREDIBLE!!! THANK YOU FOR DOING A VIDEO ON JUSTICE AAAAHHHHHHH I CANT WAIT TO CLICK PLAY
I swear is so much better when you know an insane amount of work was put into it. You can’t generate this!
I didn't expect a breakdown from this genre. It's refreshing to see something other than R&B and Hip Hop.
Thank you for the breakdown
Love to see someone appreciating and breaking down my favorite album from Justice. I'd love to see a genuine Cross 2 album.
One of my favorite albums of all time
excellent work!!!! I always thought this album was like the big beat from the late 90s grown into something new.
One of the greatest electronic albums of all time imo. So happy to see you talk about it.
Holy shit what a lot of work they’re the kings. The most insane debut album of all time.
I needed this for so long
Brilliant episode m8!
Really enjoying this! Definitely on a Justice kick after hearing the new stuff! Side mention; Super appreciate how the sponsor segment is actually very relevant to the topic and not just an add for a vpn, freemium game, brilliant or some other distracting nonsense.
Fantastic man!
This video really peaked my curiosity. And the way you talk about it sounds similar to the Daft Punk process. Will listen to this for sure! Thank you for the recommendation and, above all else, for.being in love with music ❤

This video is a masterclass. I've been listening to † for over a decade and i didn't even realize most of these were samples!
Absolutely love Justice such legends and great video as always. I would love to see a video breaking down either JayLib or just Madlib in general, some of the loops on The Unseen are worth talking about.
One of my favourite albums of all time, it blew my mind when I listened to it. The live album is phenomenal.
Never heard of em. Thanks for the plug
Incredible video thank you
It’s nice Justice is getting more and more recognition. I found out about them through bootleg MP3 (yes this was around 2010’s) and instantly blown away.
I love Justice, thank you for breaking this album down
