The #Electrictruck space continues to grow every year and #Ram is looking to change people's perception of EV's with a truck that perfectly bridges the gap between ICE and EV. The 2025 #Ram1500Ramcharger is essentially a #RamPHEV but with a 3.6L V6 that serves as a generator to recharge its 92 kWh battery pack, #Ram is promising up to 690 miles of range, making this the longest range electric truck on the market, when it goes on sale in early 2025.

@@rogerrussell9544you make a great point. The rear motor is 240KW and the engine at max rpm delivers, I believe, just under 200KW. Will be interesting to see how it performs in this "limp" mode although I think it can still perform at 85%+ the performance if my math is right. I also assume it would take a very very long (unusually long) grade to get it down to that limp mode as the engine will probably kick on to keep the battery level always above 25% (just a guess). The battery mgmt software will probably have a tow mode that makes up for the long uphill parts by overcharging the battery on flat roads. Can't wait to see a video showing it's performance towing 14k lbs on the Ike gauntlet.

The MFT makes it so much easier to access the bed and the 33 gallon tank would allow the Ramcharger to come close to the Ecodiesel’s range. And hopefully the higher trims will have a decent payload rating. While I love my 2021 1500 Limted Ecodiesel, the payload is atrocious at just over 1000lbs. I have the Retrax tonneau cover with the integrated rack system and if my whole family goes on a road trip (4 people and a dog), I have under 250lbs of payload left, which means, the most I can tow is 1640lbs if I don’t have anything else in the bed or in the Ramboxes.

Missing the point. For cross-country driving you are correct. For mixed driving where people go to work during the week and then drive a good distance on weekends, this is more like a 100 mpg solution than a 25 mpg solution. Day 1: Work and back: 50 miles on electric.. Day 2: work and back: 50 miles electric. Day 3: work and back: 50 miles electric. Day 4: Work, back, errands, short trip. 100 miles electric. Day 5,6,7: Weekend trip: 2500 miles (150 electric and 100 miles on gas). Total miles: 500 Total gas used: Roughly 5 gallons@20 mpg on gas. Weekly MPG: 100 mpg.

A plug-in hybrid is still a plug-in hybrid, whether or not the engine is mechanically connected to the wheels. The first Chevy vault was architected in the same way and it was a plug-in hybrid. The easiest way to ask yourself if something is a plug-in hybrid is one is it a hybrid and can you plug it in? if the answer to both of those questions is yes, then my friend you have a plug-in hybrid.

I think you are high on the range…. Base Ford lightning has 96kwh battery and 240 mile range. The electric range on this seems reasonable to me… would cover most days of local travel on cheap electric. Big gain would be travel towing, that would drop range to 300 miles (batt + gas). Quick gas tank fill would make a long day reasonable. And then using the battery at a backcountry camp, nice. Only problem is cost, maybe 2034 when 8 year old ones hit the used market 😢

It’s great solution for someone who commutes daily and wants the option to tow long distance. It’s a terrible solution if all you do is tow with your truck like me. Last thing I want to do is use an 8,000 pound monster, even if it is running on electric, as a daily driver. What a nightmare. I work mostly from home so commuting is a thing of the past and we use our sedan for daily trips. For towing long distances there are lots of trucks including diesels that are more efficient and not so crazy big. This is such overkill for a small camper like ours. And EV’s are getting there. They already are getting close to matching range for ICE vehicles towing with some of the new max batteries able to tow for 200 miles or more. The real problem is charging time and convenience and that is going to improve rapidly. This will probably sell well, and replacing short trip gas miles with electric is good for the environment, but I would not be doing myself or the environment any good if I just use this for long distance towing ca just sticking with ICE and diesel. The only real improvement comes when going full EV, and that is getting better all the time. I give this thing a few years before it becomes obsolete.
