The supersized RAV4 that we've been waiting to see is finally here! And it should put up a good fight against the new Honda Pilot, Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, Mazda CX-90, etc. We also wanted to mention, Toyota told us after filming that this new Grand Highlander is about 2.3" wider than the regular Highlander and the 3rd row seat has nearly 6" more legroom versus the short wheelbase Highlander. We will be driving the new Grand Highlander in mid-May so stay tuned for our driving impressions shortly after that!

They were smart as hell to make it resemble the RAV4 as that is the best selling Small SUV. It’s a win especially with that Hybrid MAX powerplant

I figured this was the endgame strategy with the new Sequoia. It was really replacing the Land Cruiser, and this Grand Highlander will be taking over customers who needed Sequoia passenger space but not off road capability. It looks great!

I6 is the superior powerplant, robust, less vibration, easier to change plugs, parts. a 4cyl in a suv as big as the highlander is a cruel joke. V6 or I6 over any 4cyl in a big suv like this any day.

There might be enough of a market for maintaining these in two segments though. Hyundai and Kia have the same model with the Tucson/Santa Fe/Palisade and Sportage/Sorento/Telluride. I can see the demand for larger and larger family crossovers that are more efficient than body-on-frame options. Will be interesting to see.

They've made it look a lot more like the 4Runner which was a very smart thing to do. Once this hits the road, they will sell a lot of them. The new interior is a drastic improvement as well.

They really dropped the ball on the new sequoia cargo area. Heard it was so they could share the assembly line with Tundras but it literally has less usable space than a base 4Runner.

I’m SOLD!!! I’m more of a Pilot person but I was very disappointed with the new pilot and was waiting for this. I really like the exterior and interior. I hope they give bench on top trims too! But let’s see!!!

Good to see buttons for hvac and other controls. I'll be taking a hard look at this one.

Looks good to me. It looks more 4Runner to me than Highlander which is nice. Sufficient space inside for my personal needs.

You know what I can’t believe I’m saying this but I agree Now I am disappointed that it didn’t raise the bar in features like the palisade. Plus I noticed sofyan wasn’t very comfortable in the 2nd and 3rd rows. And there’s no 8 seat platinum option. And the interior isn’t as nice as I would like. The dashboard is hard plastic, and there’s hard plastic on the doors where you touch. Not befitting for something that can cost well over 55k But the looks, the hybrid max power train, mpg, and improved space are pros for sure

Wow! The gigantic RAV4 we been wanting forever!

I wish the knobs for the the for the temperature controls were in the bronze color. It would jazz up the center console. I love the blue color! Would love to see the difference in the bench seats from the captain chairs. Toyota has sure done a great job on this one! Overall, love it! ❤

I’m wondering if they’ll keep the highlander to compete with the smaller midsize crossovers like the Kia sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe. With the telluride and palisade being on the larger end of the midsize segment, Toyota probably felt it was best to add direct competition with those by just creating the grand highlander and keeping the highlander at its current size for better coverage in terms of size options like Hyundai and Kia are doing.

Great walk around, one of the best! Makes me really excited about it this suv. Although, your camera work is rough 😭

I really like how this looks, the boxiness is very attractive, looks better than the curvier "regular" Highlander, and finally, the 3rd row is useable for people and their luggage. I was quite surprised Toyota put those 255's on this since the regular Highlander only comes with 235's. I'm impressed they did that

This also has some resemblance to the new Sequoia on the outside. This is a nice upgrade in design over the regular Highlander.

Looks much more RAV4 than Highlander but that’s a good thing. This and the RAV4 are really good looking.

Wish Toyota would carry over the interior design/placement of the hybrid batteries from the Grand Highlander, and apply to the Sequoia. The Sequoias third row and cargo/trunk is ridiculous. That combined with the lack of rear independent suspension seriously kills third row seating and cargo space, which will turn away a lot of potential buyers. The Grand Highlander, from this video, appears to have better third row and cargo space.

I equally don’t understand the need of only having captain seats options in some trim levels … because people who go for three rows SUV definitely need all the seats they can get. Especially when you got big family going for road trip or road trip with friends ….. if they are so attached to the captain seat then why not make a removable middle bench seat in the middle ? Anyways

they actually got rid of that horrid rear door bulge - thank goodness!! This looks pretty good!

I think this car will be significantly more expensive than you think. My guess is it starts at 42k-44k and goes up to low 60s. Maybe peaks at 63k.

Mmm glad that it’s not as curvaceous as the standard highlander but I can’t say I’m in love with the face. The grill down to the front bumper is too much like the Corolla hatch and that rear end is essentially a rav4.

I absolutely LOVE it!! I currently have a 2021 XSE AWD in pearl white and am definitely looking at trading it in on this Platinum new model (in pearl white, of course). I have a 2021 XLE AWD in pearl white; I have a feeling the value of our Highlanders are going to nose dive when these hit the lots. We do have a proven engine but unless the GH starts at $8000 more, the current Highlander will fall into the dust bin of automotive history.

Even though the Grand highlander has Spacious interior where the interior is roomy and all im still gonna keep the 2021 XSE version cause that V6 can prove to be reliable in many situations and turbos have their own set of problems so aint risking it much...

Ever since they cut the V6, highlander has been a chop for me, but it's nice they gave it more space, but they should have just updated it or introduced it as the new highlander, nice model though. I'm waiting for the Lexus TX if you want a V6 version

4 cyl turbos are good for small commuter cars or even even certain sports cars, but for an SUV, I need power. 6cyl in my opinion performance is better and for a truck/SUV I need that. 4cyl turbos aren't built for everything, it's those EPA regulations that are doing it.

It hasn’t surpassed the class at all😂 Cargo space isn’t top of the class. Not to mention that there’s no luxury features. No heated 3rd row seats, power tilt telescope wheel, 4 zone climate control, driver seat massage, etc. Toyota could have surpassed the class but they failed to. No surprise really

Bmw x7 is not a competitor To this that is about 40k more and is offered with ttv8 engines with over 500hp and that is much nicer on the inside with much more premium materials ,better tech, and features like rear wheel steering, heated third row seats, massaging seats with 22 ways of adjustment.

@@planinshek Part of the issue with the Sequoia is they went to a solid axle instead of keeping independent suspension. Plus adding the massive battery pack for the battery used on the hybrid system totally kills any space. I'm thinking had they kept the V8 and made improvements in the drivetrain (go to a 10 speed automatic) and then make other improvements, it could have increased MPG. Plus space would not be as much of an issue in the new Sequoia.

The V6 doesn’t have enough low end torque to move the GH.

I like the design of the current highlander better. That swoop on the side doors gives it character.
