The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4Matic Is Brings S-Class Luxury & Tech To The C-Class SUV

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

As the best-selling #MercedesBenz in America, the all-new 2023 #MercedesBenzGLC is a very important model for the brand. Despite having an appearing that looks similar to the previous generation #GLC300, this new version is built on the same excellent platform as the redesigned #CClass. With that change, it gets S-Class levels of luxury and technology with more power AMG models coming next year. #GLC #MercedesBenzGLC300 #GLCClass

The price increase from the last GLC is crazy. $59k for non-amg line, MB-Tex, no heated rear seats, HUD, and cheap looking reflector headlights. A few years ago, you could get a GLE for the same price

That annoys me too. They've gone too screen happy. But over time, they'll come back to more buttons. That's the way it goes, tech goes crazy one way then settles into a good mix of screens and buttons.

I drove a new GLC 300 for a couple days last week while my C300 was in the shop for a recall. The loaner was in the Pinnacle mid-level trim, but with a couple options. The interior was almost exactly the same as my C-Class, and it looks amazing. If I have any criticism for the exterior, I'd say it's a little bland. But then again so is the C-Class, at least compared to the previous generation, which I thought was a sharper and sportier looking sedan. I think Mercedes just doesn't take chances with its best selling models. The ride in the GLC 300 was decent, not truck-like at all, and there was a bit less body roll than I was expecting, even with the standard suspension. The step-in height was higher than I expected. People with short legs will need to consider how comfortable they are climbing up into (and down out of) this small SUV. I did a mix of city and highway driving in the two days I had the new GLC (more highway than city) and taking it fairly easy, I got 29 mpg, which I think is fair enough for this type and size vehicle. The mild hybrid system and its integration in the start/stop feature is terrific. It helps that the car's cabin is quiet in the first place, but you cannot tell when the engine turns off and turns back on again. It is seamless, or as close to seamless as you can get in an ICE car now. Also, if you have the car in Eco mode, you can take your foot off the accelerator pedal and literally coast down hills, increasing your fuel economy. The engine will turn on again when you press the gas pedal, if you get close to the car in front of you, or you are a steeper angle up or down. And again, when the engine turns on after coasting it's seamless. The mild hybrid system is supposed to ease turbo lag, and it works okay. But there's still some turbo lag when you really punch it. Overall, I think the GLC 300 and C300 are great vehicles. Probably not the best value in their classes, but still pretty good. It helps that I got a terrific deal on mine!

Old GLC has super narrow driver footwell (from transmission being so wide at the front), it is so bad that the brake pedal is pushed to left of the seat centerline resulting in a quite twisted posture as most people use right food to brake. Is it still the case in the new GLC?

I'm surprised you haven't reviewed the new C43 or the new C63 S E-Performance yet. I think you should, since most journalists have already. I hope Mercedes gives you both to try out, since you've already reviewed the current C300. Most people have meh responses to both cars because of the hybridized 2.0L turbo 4 cylinder, but when you get one, I'll be curious to see what you think of it. But yeah said to see AMG only using 4 cylinder hybrid tech now for their performance cars. The S63 is the only one that'll keep the 4.0L V8 but again it's hybrid as well.

@@abhi4ify I’m not a professional by any means, but I’m always exploring the latest options. Personally I drive Volvo and have for years, but even the more recent ones have had a lot of cost cutting on the interior and exterior appointments. I’ve driven the new Audi, BMW, Lexus, and MB and the only one I liked in terms of overall quality, fit/ finish, and value was the BMW 3/ X5 and the 5. The new BMWs are shockingly more reliable than those of the past from consumer surveys (and from friends I know who have owned 2020 and beyond) and offer a better overall driving experience. The seats are not quite as comfortable though. Mind you, I’ve never been a BMW guy or a fanboy by any stretch. Lexus and Audi felt cheap and tinny, and Infiniti hasn’t changed in years. Acura is very meh and it felt no different than Honda. I test drove a Cadillac CT5 and it also felt relatively cheap and basic but honestly I do see Cadillac stepping up more with their SUVs/ 2024 models. I’ve seen that genesis is really packing in the tech to their models but they depreciate so quickly and really are quite disposable, like most Hyundai products. I just feel that overall, like many aspects of the world we’re in right now, many things are overpriced and underdeveloped. Cars are a really strong reflection of that with the materials used and overall durability. All the cheap plastics and rattles and creaks…

@@naveenthemachine Maybe in 1990s cars... What do you mean? Have you spent time in it? I had a 206 C300 loaner and my brother is a MB mechanic so he sometimes brings home cars for me to look at. Other than the fact that subjectively not as interesting to look at compared to the previous generation, it doesn't look that bad. However, the quality is dishonorable. The piano black center console and seat-control-panels needs to come out of all Mercedes. The dashboard, and doors are not soft touch. The sides of the center console are really cheap scratchy plastic. All of the "chrome" is not real metal - its unconvincing plastic. It was better last generation. Also, I am fine using a touch screen/capacitive touch, but it's not luxury. Its fine if a Honda has no buttons, but a Mercedes should have luxurious tactile switchgear (not fingerprint magnets). I will say that the HVAC vents feel nice and the recycled faux suede on the very top of the doors is quite nice and I wish they used it more throughout. I feel very passionate about this because I drive an E-coupe which is discontinued upon the arrival of the CLE. Unfortunately the CLE has this garbage interior and is not a viable upgrade for an E-class driver.

I think M-B is at the mercy of suppliers like all auto manufacturers. The cost of parts have increased dramatically. Auto companies have no choice but to find ways to cut costs to keep the MSRP within reason.
