The 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Stands Out In A Crowded SUV Segment

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The compact SUV segment is the go-to choice for many new car shoppers. If you’re tired of looking at the usual Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, the all-new 2022 #HyundaiTucsonHybrid is a bold new offering that #Hyundai built to question all that is conventional. The #TucsonHybrid also gets up to 38 MPG making it one of the most fuel efficient offerings you can buy. Expect a #HyundaiTucson plug in hybrid to follow later this summer.

I saw this vehicle in my rearview mirror. It has one of the most distinctive looks and it's really impressive. Kinda strange, but I can tell what vehicle is behind me by the distinctive headlights (amber square for the Kia Telluride, and that sword in the Hyundai Pallisade). Even though there are a lot of videos out about this car, this is an excellent one. After contacting some 30 dealers, we put a deposit down in early July on an identical silver/black Tucson Hybrid Limited but shipping is now delayed to early September (maybe) with no VIN or production date even yet available. There was need for another car as that driver does at least 15k mi annually, and this color combo wasn’t what we wanted, so ended up getting a 2021 Sonata Limited in black with the gray interior, amazingly, for $1500 less than sticker. Still wish we could have gotten a black on gray Tucson Hybrid Limited, but are appreciating the physical volume and climate controls, excellent HUD, and even the gauge cluster hood on the Sonata. If Hyundai implements physical controls and a HUD on the Tucson, and availability increases, we may well trade up.

(Welllllllll, ok, maybe that the mirrors don't fold automatically... i THOUGHT they came with it because i confused terminology, "power FOLDING with simply POWER" so i was a tad disappointed when they did NOT fold in :( BUT other than THAT, my Tuscon (i bought black : ) continues to impress me every single day : ) You did a great job touching on every SINGLE feature (but you left out its BEST one (i think) the Blind Spot CAMERAS! i so enjoyed your review on this great car, love ALL your reviews actually : ) BTC

I am so glad you did another positive review after a week of driving. Some people keep giving this hybrid vehicle negative reviews which I don't get (Mostly Avid Toyota and Honda fans). I understand Toyota has built their name over the years with reliability. However, how do you measure reliability on newer cars? For the price, safety features and everything this vehicle gives. It's a no Brainer for any new suv hybrid shopper to not look at this. Great job Sofyan on your objective reviews always.

I’m finding myself increasingly tempted to go with the Tucson hybrid in a year or so as my current lease is close to running out. I rented an SEL regular Tucson in Florida last year and was surprised as how big it felt inside and cavernous cargo space for it’s size. I’ve been wanting to downside slightly for a more enjoyable driving experience which I feel in smaller vehicles. The main decision I’m stuck on is Tucson or Santa Fe which is a tough decision.

Perhaps the best styled Hyundai on sale currently. It is modern contemporary but with a futuristic twist. Both Tucson & Sante Fe are terrific vehicles, They provide what Toyota gave people 30+ years ago: Value without adding additional $1,000s for reliability (these have value, reliability AND better warranty). In addition, Hyundai/Kia are more advance with their tech (I think there are still some Toyotas that don't have Android Auto).

  • @jamesnardini

Agree 100%. If you look at customer feedback you’ll see that Toyota is only mid-pack. Considering the technology on most Toyota vehicles is nearly at the bottom of the pack, thats surprising. I really hope more and more people start recognizing Hyundai/Kia as a quality and reliable car. Where as many have a false belief that Toyota is quality and reliable, those times are gone (except for their trucks). It’s mostly now just a stigma that Toyota has on their side, a deceptive company no less, ever since their 07-10 major lawsuits.

Resale value and sale numbers always show demand and reliability. Hyandai and Kia still far behind Toyota and Honda especially resale value. Long term reliability still not as good as Toyota and Honda (ignore initial reliability ratings). A couple of my family members had Tucsons both with drive train issues. Another consideration with Hyandai/Kia is poor dealership experience/service which is important to customers.

agree that kia and hyundai are reliable, but that doesn’t mean you need to say toyota is not reliable. Toyotas are still very reliable. My uncle has a rav4 from 3years ago, and he hasn’t need to fix anything except regular maintenance.

Toyota has a better reputation for reliability, though not all their cars are as reliable anymore. Hyundai/Kia are more reliable today imo. The quality of Toyota cars are low compared to a lot of manufacturers now esp Hyundai/Kia.

I bought this Tucson Hybrid Limited model. Although I like it, it's simply not Toyota reliable. The warranty is meaningless if you have to continually waste time taking the car to the dealer for problems they can't figure out. I'm not bashing Hyundai, I like their technology and designs. I just think they value new tech over quality control. It's my first Hyundai and unless Hyundai can address my engine issue fast, it's likely my last. A 10 year warranty sounds great in conversation, unfortunately it doesn't translate into reliability. All that said, the new Tucson Hybrid is significantly nicer on Day 1 over the Rav4 & CR-V. Day 100, I'm not so sure.

The dealer I visited doesn't have hybrid demos, so I test drove a non-hybrid version with the lacklustre engine. I didn't hear any appreciable road noise (on the highway) from the driver seat, but when I moved to the back seat while my wife drove, there was a noticeable increase in road noise. The sales rep told me that the hybrid version, which I must factory order without being able to test drive, has a quieter engine with more sound insulation overall. I'd like to confirm this from another source (besides the dealership).

However, we mostly drive in the city and I can go about 33-35 days on one tank of gas, which is great given the price of has. It's $1.89/L here (no gas tax right now due to government initiative to help consumers). It's very quiet, so much so that we've exited a few times without turning off the car. It's a comfortable ride, and maneuvers well. I'm getting used to not having a stick gear changer, as I always rested my arm on that in my old car, and there's no comfortable place to rest your arm on the right side. The one thing I was worried about, after reading many complaints, was the touch screen. I don't mind it at all, amd find it intuitive to use. Did you buy one/are you waiting for one?
