I love my GS, but my next bike will probably be a Pan Am. Maybe the next gen. It's pretty amazing how they nearly nailed it on the first try. As a platform it's awesome, and all the little things can be fixed. Given the number of dealerships, availability of parts and service, and the entire massive HD aftermarket if it entrenches itself - it's hard not to envision a bright future.

That is one of the big reasons I have been riding HDs for 20 years, the peace of mind knowing that I am seldom more than 100 miles from a dealer if I need it. I bought the first Pan Am my dealership got last year, love it. It will be better when some of the bugs get worked out though.

Wise move, I part exchanged my GS for one but missed my GS so much I sold it and brought another GS. For no other reason than it didn't suit me, for several small reasons and the first gen was having issues. If I ever get GS out of my blood stream, I would certainly be looking at buying a next gen one. Glad I brought it though as my local dealership is great and I now have more motorcycling friends who happen to ride Harley's.

Fantastic Review!!! Love that your positive on all brands and the freedom of choice for all riders. The PanAm is a real contender and right up there with all the great ones in this category. Anyone who doesnt try this bike is missing out on something REALLY fun. Congratulations Harley for designing something that is not only WAY out of the box for you, but a really really great machine on the first try!!! It shows what your capabilities are! Rubber side down folks, ride safe.
Awesome video Excellent review and the best thing about it all is that you're not bashing other bikes. It's nice to hear a review without bashing other machines and brands. Keep up the good work
Man, I really miss San Diego. I had to move for financial reasons, and that did work out. But, if I can, I will move back someday! Thanks for the video.
i just got a super sport, Honda cbr600rr...i love it! but my next bike is going to be an adventure bike! i love the idea of being able to go anywhere, do anything on a bike...i kinda fell in love with the bmw 1200gs after watching a video of a bmw1200gs school where they were teaching folks how to ride them and do all kinds of stuff in all kinds of terrain etc...this Harley is absolutely beautiful too!
Test rode, rented (3 days), purchased. I liked it that much. I added off-brand (better, cheaper and available) boxes, a H-D tank bag and Touratech mount with Garmin. 20,000 km/12,000* mi of European alpine twisties in the first year. *People will say, 'I do that in a week'. I bought a 2023 Tiger and didn't like it at all. The motor was tuned for a sportbike and the phone connectivity software never worked. I did the first oil change myself and the engine nearly froze because I was supposed to put the new oil in with the drain plug removed. I've never heard of that before but apparently that's how this motor needs the oil changes done. Pour new oil in with the drain plug removed and it doesn't pour out on the ground. I traded it in 6 months for a Harley Road King Special.
@ttrguy9952
Ай бұрын
@@tomlongo7582 You are dead wrong about the oil change. You DO put the drain plug in to refill with oil. You leave the "Filter" off before filling and put the filter on after filling with oil. This prevents a line lock where the oil cannot move in the channels to lube the valves. My connectivity works great even though I don't use it. I ride to be un-connected. My phone is turned off and stays in my pocket or tank bag. The same in my car.
I went and did a showroom test ride! Really like the bike from what I saw. They offer a lifetime engine warranty standard, so that is a big plus. Not big on off-road riding, but I do like the option with a great highway cruiser. Maybe in the spring I will jump on one.
Finally you got your hands on this bike. I've been hoping to hear your opinion on it for about a year or so now, as a lot of other channels (that i don't trust to much) came out with reviews.

Great info as usual. There is a rumor they will come out with a 975CC version of the Pan America in 2023. Interested to see if that happens.
While it’s true that you can’t ride a spec sheet, my experience in both California and Texas is that most dealerships don’t have very generous test ride policies. Manufacturer’s demo days are okay, but not very often. Had a very good experience on a Versys 650 LT at a Kawasaki demo day.
Kinda snazzy looking, seriously doubt it's a GS killer. Just another option in this class. Nice: video. May I suggest a gimbal for the walk around, it's will make a super smooth shot.
I don't do off road riding at all. And don't intend to start riding off road. But I do like the seating position and feel of adventure touring bikes, so for the price I went with the Kawasaki Versys 1000 SE LT+ back in 2019. It comes with all those options, electronic suspension, FACTORY installed quick shifter, heated grips, cornering lights, etc... everything. AND it includes the hard luggage for touring which is what i do with it. I think i paid like $15K for mine but they are around $19K now.. but that includes EVERYTHING including the hard bags.

Just goes to show HD still knows how to build competitive modern tech bikes. If I was looking for a ADV type of bike it would be between this or KTM Super Adventure.
Recently HD in UK done Test Ride To Win, so I did🙂. Went to Uppingham HD dealer, mounted on 1250 S and spent one hour challenging local twisties. My observations: just got off ST1100 and jumped on different kind of bike, and guess what? Feels like handling a bicycle. I asked for all ABS/TC off, engine in sports mapping and just took off. Handles really light, corners with a lot of spare lean angle, throttle response in S mode sweet and like an explosion, overtaking 10 points. Overall experience - waiting for a DRAW🙂. Fingers crossed!

I have a few questions 1 - how is the tracer 9gt as a bike 2- do I have to always adjust the rear suspension when riding solo and 2 up 3- if it has a Manual pre load how to adjust it and what setting it should be at. How would I know that it's at the right setting for solo and 2 up 4- is it ok to ride 2 up with pre load/suspension adjustment Also is semi active suspension better or electronic suspension for pillion riding Your help is much appreciated
A buddy of mine lent me his Pan America for 6 weeks this summer. It was the first big bike I road and I loved it. At first it's intimidating because it looks big, but once I got on it, it felt perfect.I'm 6'2" 34" inseam so I don't have a problem flat footing, but I still appreciated the lowering thing it does when you stop. It was WAY more maneuverable than I thought it would be. The only downside for me was it threw off a TON of heat.

The side stand is a bit of a PITA on low position since the stand is " springy " . It goes down about 3/4 inch when no load on it. The pivot hole is elongated on one end. I eliminated that by filling in the up side of the hole with my TIG and silicon bronze.to make it round .
The panam is an amazing bike. I love my 2021. HD knocked it out of the park. They will need to iron out quality issues but the design is awesome.
One aspect is the adaptive suspension being the best of both worlds. It lowers about 2 inches.when riding to a stop and raises back up when you shut it off. When lower, it makes it easier to get your footing when stopped. When turned off, it resumes the normal height, which makes it easier to get on the center stand.

It’s truly adaptive too; I’m a tall guy with long legs, and I rode one at a demo day. It only squatted down for me the very first time I turned it on in the parking lot; it figured somehow I had no trouble reaching the ground on my own, and stopped kneeling.

Other than 3 or 4 presses of the starter to get mine started and the weird power delivery it didn't really give me any grief. Did find that my iPhone wouldn't stay connected to the bikes Bluetooth but who knows what causes that. Sportster S also has about 3 inches of travel in the rear suspension so your teeth will rattle in your mouth and your spine will get realigned every time you hit a bump. Wasn't for me in the end. Quick for a Harley though but not sportbike quick even though the sales folks will try sell it that way. My Ninja 1000 would annihilate it.

@@TimothyT230 Fortunately, longer travel suspension on the PA compared with the Sportster S. Have been favoring adventure bikes, lately due to crappy pavement, here. I also have other bikes that are faster, but not every bike in my stable can be, or has to be the fastest.
the Pan America is a big seller where I'm at - I wanted to test drive one, but the dealer sold these as soon as they came in. I have a 1200 gs lc and I'll hang onto it for now, but would like to try one out for sure.
I heard they were coming out with a 975 version
I totally support the tribute of the company to the military. In virtually all the magazine and you tube comparisons of the new Pan America it is always tested against the GS and GSA. So in some ways it is recognized by almost all testers that the GS/GSA has been and probably still is the undisputed standard to which all adventure bikes are measured against. BMW was very smart when they introduced the GS series by not starting from scratch with a new bike but using the existing proven engines and modified the frames to some extent to make it an adventure bike. That way the new bike teething problems were almost none. And each year since they made small refinements to the bike to what it is today. It didn't hurt BMW that KTM opted out of Ewan's and Charlie's world trip and BMW stepped up to the plate. Harley, on the other hand, started their adventure bike with a new model and teething issues are to be expected with any new model. It is not really a Harley issue as much as any totally new bike would likely have first year glitches regardless of manufacturer. Harley does have a few things going for them that are fascinating that some of the other manufacturers don't. First, as you mentioned, they are well recognized for their support of the military and veterans. Harley also has a very loyal customer base that in some cases will not ride anything other than a Harley regardless of what it is, and Harley's business model is somewhat unique among motorcycle manufactures as the quarterly bottom line is important to a point but that the business model is similar to Southwest Airlines and Apple as the customer is also very important and the company absolutely wants and needs to be around next year and years after to support their customers. The quarterly bottom line isn't everything for Harley and that is refreshing among companies that only look to bottom lines and Wall Street stockholders. Harley is unique in many ways and I am not sure the Pan America will have the short life and go the way of the Live Wire. I am not a Harley guy but can certainly see and appreciate their business model. Maybe in a few years I will look hard at the Pan America, for now my ride is the GSA.

Watch Fortnine Harley financing video.
People compre this to the gs, but really it's meant to compete with the multistrada
I'd love a Pan Am, except I don't have the money. Until the Pan Am, I didn't see a single American bike that I'd be interested in. The more I look at it, the more interested I get.

Save gas money with 46mpg....nevermind how much gas 20K would buy..lol.They're pretty good at financing though.
Nice test Sir, do you plan to swing a leg over the MG 85TT any time soon? I’d love to hear your thoughts about the bike 🏍️

Have one of those, too. Won't set the world on fire for power, but gets and actual 66 MPG on the country roads and highways. 5.6 Gal tank , so 300+ mile range. I got 183 miles on 2.7 Gal to top off the tank, again. Calculator said 66 Mpg.

@@rudedog3529 Thanks, I love practical things. I am riding V9 bobber now, but I'm 192 cm tall and I feel my back after some time in the saddle. I'm commuting on the bike almost every day, living in a Prague (Czech republic) where the traffic can gets quite congested. I love MG characters, did some demo ride on V85 and find it perfect, not so big to the town, tons of character, enough power. I have started riding this year, did around 10k km this season and only thing that I'm missing on the V9 is no wind protection, ergos, bigger tank and cruise control. I was surprised, that when I reset the avarage fuel consumption during my demo ride on V85 I had a better milage then on V9. Only thing that I want to upgrade on V85 is the windshield. Even with a factory high windshield, I experienced a lot of buffeting, so I want to try givi airflow. I know, it does not look the best, but should be pretty practical.
why don't Harley Davidson make a top of the line 125 for the european market i would buy one ( i can drive one with a car license in belgium)
Would be awesome to see ride on some dirt and see how it does in comparison to the GS.

A Frenchman rode a bone stock Pan Amercia in a Dakar series endurance race thru the desert section of Spain in blazing heat. And it finished with no issues. I have recently been to Florida on mine in 95 plus heat if you are properly attired for riding as in sport riding boots and long pants as I was I dont get the exhaust heat complaints. No worse than any other machine I gave ridden. Certainly not an issue.

I'd like to see how well it takes jumps, how much air you can get under it and still land without bottoming the suspension, and how easily you can correct it's position when airborne. I can get about 3 ft of air under my stripped, knobby tired Goldwing and land smoothly. Disappointed in that. I guess what I really want is a 1980 YZ250. Something that can really fly

I would have a Pan American, But the set up fees and dealership fees of $3200.00 (this is not including state and sales tax) steered me to a Yamaha Super Tenere. Don’t meet to be negative, but the sale person at Rommel’s HD made me feel like I was a idiot and should pay for the privilege to buy a HD. I have only owned HD. The Tenere is my first metric bike. I hope that your HD dealer is better then the one in me area.

Noting there are plenty of Pan Americas in Cycle Trader, I had them make the $ 3500 ADM go away, and the $ 1000 prep fee down to $ 100. Prep, for the most part is just hooking up a battery and putting gas in the tank. I used to have a shop in the1980's , so I know the game. 😈
How did your left foot feel at 4,000 RPM? Thought my foot would vibrate off. For Harley, this is a world beater straight out of the box. Quality is not in BMW’s ballpark, but the ride is more plush than the GS. Lots of heat from the rear cylinder onto right leg, heat hitting left leg from radiator fan on the left side. Electronics are unstable.
