X3 is sick! M Sport package is double sick! What a wonderful drive to start the week.

The M40i really is the goldilocks perfection of everything you want in a small SUV: performance, technology, luxury, and the reliability of the B58 engine. 2+ years of having no issues, and the only cost of ownership so far has been replacing the run flat tires after 15,000 miles with all season tires. One thing prospective owners might want to think about: buying a used M40i with under 30k miles that's already depreciated 25-30% from original MSRP.

It’s also very very affordable compared to q5 which is way more expensive. A phev x3 is the same price as the rav4 prime now

Just got a 2018, more fun to drive than my 335d, it IS a Rocket!

I thought I recognized the area that you're driving around. My neck of the woods, the OC. Great review. The breaking is amazing. I couldn't believe how quickly it stopped from going 58mph. Size, comfort, quickness, handling. For my! needs and wants, this is the perfect car.

Quality, video superb audio really great review Miles! Indeed the M-Sport differential that worked "beautifully" in the corners is the secret sauce in the 2022 X3 M40i. Fast fun and practical function definitely enjoying this SAV.

Wow really ? Congratulations. I just ordered me a x3M40i oct. 14th. It’s slated for a December build so I am guessing in January to receive it I guess! I wish I was getting mine next month.

What an excellent POV review. The emergency braking, the line keep assist, the windscreen wipers. All actionable and relatable info, thank you! Watching from Morocco, the 40i engine is a very high luxury that comes with hefty taxes and petrol bills. We mostly have 18d and 20d around here 😁👍

This is it. My next car X3 once they release new model.

We have a 21 Q5 and brought it in for service. They gave a us a SQ5 and the wife loves that much better. So I am now Looking at this M40I vs the Sq5 that we just drove. Im reading the road manners are slightly bumpy on the 20's and the wind noise above 65mph is loud. I guess I need to see if it is acceptable to us. Reliability is also a major factor. We have had 3 Q5's and they have been extremely reliable. Good review thanks Subscribed...and the GV70 is out..

Thanks for the review. I have a 2024 X3 M40i and absolutely love it. Cool seeing the X5 right in front of you at the end of the video. I thought it was a tad big for me, so stuck to the X3.

I have owned many BMWs This is a beautiful machine and Super! I love it! 2022 BMW M40I is the Best! The pure M is rough and not fuel efficient

Definitely another good competitor. I typically just offer a sampling of competitors, otherwise the comparison discussion would be half the video length.

I just found a good deal on a 2018 X3 M40I. It puts out a little less power. 355 HP but it is so fast and when it downshifts in sport mode it make pops and burbles. Seems that is lost in the new iteration. Great Review.

Yeah, I have a 2019 edition and I believe the 18 & 19s had a more aggressive exhaust note. And with a tune it sounds even better, IMO. I would buy another of these B58s every 4- 5yrs just to get the improvements 👍

@Brian Johnson, those year models are pretty quick. I had a run with them on my channel. The new ones are even quicker! Although I would opt for the x5 40i or 50i if i wanted a crossover.

Glad you enjoyed it! Launch Control is standard on the X3 M40i.

Just got my 23" X3 M40i in tanzanite blue. So far no complaints at all. Car was specced with performance tires and i live in ny, so an extra 1k will be needed to spent. As for reliability, the B58 is the most reliable engine from bmw, i haven't had any issues and hopefully never do. One thing to know, there is no break in period and i have topped by car out to 162, but let off so there might be some more juice. 10/10 would recommend others to test drive one

Also the dme and ecu is locked on the 22-23" so you cannot tune the car unless you ship it out to finland. I highly do not recommend a jb4 or any piggyback tune, it adds 0 to no power and will bring you issues

Good review on the one I love to have 👍💪💪 x3 has reclining rear seats that I like better than stubborn X5 not changed. Affordable price too

Right now, I drive a 2016 428i GC, which I love! My next one in 2023 might be this one or the M440 xDrive GC. Wonder what changes BMW has in store for 2023? Great review! Keep them coming!

Not much will change for the X3 since this is the mid cycle impulse. My guess is they will get a few years out of this with minor tweaks. But…Audi is changing the Q5 significantly (and also the SQ5 presumably) so maybe BMW will respond to that sooner rather than later. Edit: your comment is 1 year old. My bad. Turns out I was right though 😂

How's the X3 legroom compared to the X5? Is the latter's that much more noticeable?

I've only sat in these seats. They were a little firm, but still ergonomic and comfortable.

Reminds me of a first gen. Saturn Vue! The ones with Honda V-6 will make you forget this thing!

Does this have auto/start stop? 21s on down can be disabled but did not see a button for that on this MY.

I'm trying to read the license plates to see where you are. It's so beautiful and clean and doesn't appear flat in the far distance. Where is this?

X3 30e a little sluggish and it has a mediocre electric range, the X3 M is super quick but harsh on your back... The M40 has the perfect dose, as you mentioned on this video. MilesPerHr, you did a great review as always!

Hi. Is the driving experience on the M40i similar to the M? I love the São Paulo Yellow color and M Sport seats on the “M” but a lot of people say the ride is too harsh compared to the M40i

Just got mine a week ago but unfortunately, i have to do a proper break in before tasting the real performance of my car.

I bought one of these, and i dont find the ride harsh or stiff at all. Its pretty smooth, but i do have nonrunflat winters on atm. I havent driving it enough to really experience it, but the power feels good. I doubt it will be as nimble as my rwd m235i, but similar or better than my 435i.

Those are not all season tires by the way. They are summer performance tires (Bridgestone Alenza 001 RFT). Please get the tires right as it’s a hazard during winter conditions if you mislead buyers. All season tires either says M+S or have the Mountain with snowflake symbol ( dedicated winter tires)

Does the piano black scratch easily? How do you clean it without scratching it? I have an Audi RS5 Sportback. Same thing in the center console. Piano black. Had to get a new piece and have it PPF to protect it.

@@rockerjock79 I'm sure it does, but I haven't had any issues because I clean my car 1-2x a week and baby it haha. I use Lithium Inner Space and a microfiber cloth to clean.

Can you comment on the seat comfort compared to the SQ5 Prestige you drove last year and overall highway wind noise?

These seats feel less firm than the SQ5's, but the lateral support isn't as good. Highway wind noise is about the same - if anything, less wind noise in the X3 but more road noise than the SQ5.

to release the rear seats the lever is on top of the seat on the corner. found out after 2 months of owning mine he probably didn't see it

oi, I want that black carbon metallic paint on my '07. Also, what a beautiful highway that was, near Irvine, CA, I take it.

BMW is easily making the best SUVs u can buy. All the luxury and performance u could want.

Curious on your thoughts of X3 M40i vs xdrive30i w/M sport package ? M sport package seems to only be appearance , not performance. Is the m40i worth the $

Just drove the xDrive30i M Sport pack today. Completely, completely different driving experience. The M40i is another animal - genuinely exciting to drive. the 30i is just "fine"

Yep. The M-Sport is the 30i with most of the comfort and cosmetic bells and whistles of the M40i. Under the hood not much else.

Wireless charger and Harmon Kardon upgrades haven't been available in the U.S. for many months due to the chip shortage. But the Wireless charger is back being available this week on website.

It's still not on the website but dealers website builder, that option is available which I think is $300. The wireless charger was just added back today.

This is a press vehicle, so I can only tell you the spec sheet said Shadowline package for $400.

I’m pretty sure the X5 is bigger in wheelbase, length and trunk space since it’s a midsize SAV.

It is noticeable in terms of interior and trunk space. My wife was looking at the x3 m40i, but with our second child on the way she opted for the x5 m50i. It just depends on whether you need the extra space or not. Both are fantastic vehicles, and you can't go wrong with either of them.

@@mateus8676 the X5 is more luxurious than the X3, because it’s similar to the 5 series compared to the 3 series. Models ranging 5 & up are more luxurious and tends to be more fun to drive because the turbo I-6 is a beast and proven to be fuel efficient. The efficiency of the I-6 makes the 5 series & up preform and handle sporty drives better than 3 series & down. The turbo I-4 in the 3 series and X3 is a bit less fun to drive, it’s of course slower and doesn’t have the power to be a fun factor. In the end, it’s all about preferences, one will chose power and big cargo space while others will chose smaller engine just to get from Point A to Point B with less maintenance trouble.

@@simonliu1728 I agree with you. The X5 definitely soaks up bumps better than the X3. You can really tell the X3 is based on the 3 series platform, and the m40i drove surprisingly similar to the m340i sedan. The X5 m50i has the 4.4L V8 which is amazing... except she never takes the thing past 3k rpm sadly haha

Cayenne is in a larger segment (competes closer with the X5). If money was no object, I'd have the Cayenne GTS, but I'd take the X3 M40i over the base Cayenne (price being comparable)

Definitely a competitor (though smaller). I usually just choose a couple competitors, because some segments have huge lists of rivals.

How the *M Rear Differential* is NOT stock on the X3 & X4 M440i is beyond me. Bad decision BMW. It should come stock, that’s the whole point!

I wouldn't even consider that fancy Hyundai !!!

Name another SUV in same class that offers same driving excitement, and adaptive cruise. The only suv that beats this is the Macan and it is more expensive. You cannot get hung up on one feature, look at the OVERALL package when you're comparing. This is a drivers suv, not for someone who will happy with "anything".

I can't believe the amount of swirlmarks that poor cars paint has.. WOW

The tail lights are energy swords from halo

I think the tail light is cool for what it is, but I think it looks uglier than the pre LCI.

It's a Wolf in Sheep's clothing. I will never own anything else.

The 2021 and 2022 Audi SQ5 now do 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. I test drove both. Definitely find the Audi to be more luxurious and high tech, while also having some great driving dynamics. I have a BMW X3M Competition on order, but have heard the ride is severely punishing.
