The 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge Is A Stylish & Quick All-Electric SUV

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Thanks to Keeps for sponsoring this video! Head to keeps.com/redline to get 50% off your first order of hair loss treatment.
A lot of things are changing at #Volvo. A couple years ago, we really fell in love with the #XC40 compact SUV and for 2021, the #XC40Recharge is the brand's first-ever mass produced all-electric vehicle designed to go against the Tesla Model Y. While the regular gas powered #XC40 was a very competitive vehicle, the #Recharge model takes things a step further with standard Dual Motor AWD, over 400 HP and 208 miles or range on a full charge. It's the quickest accelerating model in the lineup because it uses the same electric motors as the #Polestar2 and still qualifies for the full $7,500 federal tax credit.

    Happy Saturday everyone! We want to again thank our sponsor for this video, Keeps. Be sure to go to keeps.com/redline to get 50% off your first order. We filmed the XC40 Recharge video a couple months ago but Volvo still has not officially released the update to the infotainment system that will add Apple CarPlay and SAT radio. They tell us it will be here by the end of the year and we're hoping we can get our hands on the upcoming C40 Recharge very soon as well!

    I found this a very good, well-rounded review with one caveat. Most owners will use their cars largely, if not exclusively, for commuting and running errands, where the types of software problems you mentioned are less of an issue than when road-tripping, so buying one now with half-baked software is really only a minor inconvenience for most buyers. The option of waiting to order until the software has been improved is not without consequences, as it means moving farther back in the queue and potentially facing a higher MSRP. I am writing this in June 2022. Many of the software problems have been addressed, there is an app that shows remaining range and Apple Carplay will be provided in an over-the-air update within the next couple of weeks.

  • @BrakeForLoop

    @BrakeForLoop

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes. I don't see a way to launch Android Auto from an iPhone. Also, a lot of convenience is built into these tech ecosystems. If someone texts you an address on an iPhone, that address will appear as a suggested address to navigate to when you load Maps in Apple's Carplay. I'm sure Android has a similar feature... but these tech ecosystems are separate. Each modern car should have Android Auto and Apple Carplay from release. This allows someone to change from Android to Apple, or vice versa, without having issues when they go to use their car. My car has both, which meant all I had to get used to was a new ecosystem and not fumble with navigation over bluetooth or other frustrations when I switched from Android to Apple.

    The best news about this SUV is that you can actually buy one, and even get a little money off sticker. The reason is that spec-sheet wise it’s overpriced vs. Tesla, the Mach-E, and the upcoming Kia / Hyundai twins. The XC40 interior isn’t up to the quality of the XC60 & XC90, which in gas-engine form cost around the same. We like Volvos and I’m sure it has some intangible advantages over Ford and Hyundai, but the Polestar variant of this platform is more interesting.

The 2023 XC40 gets the C40’s headlamps (pixel LED matrix) and LED rear lights, and should be available by early winter. I ordered a 2022 to get this year’s pricing. I find plugging the phone in to be cumbersome and annoying, and most of the time, if I need to do something phone related, I find it much faster and easier to just pick the phone up and quickly do it. This car is not a Tesla fighter and I'm tired of every EV test having to mention Tesla. This is Volvo's phase one electrified XC40. It's a test to see how well Volvo can do such things as one-pedal drive, blended breaking, and such. You don't fight Tesla with a platform that isn't a dedicated EV. When Volvo finally gets out a dedicated platform EV there will be competitors like BMW, Genesis, Audi and some others they'll fight with. Not only Tesla. Volvo did a good job electrifying this hybrid EV. This and the Polestar 2 shows what an EV Volvo can drive like but not exactly what their ground-up EV will feel like. We have to wait for that with either the next Volvo xc90 that won't be called XC90, or the Polestar 3.

    I'm so tired of Tesla mentioned in every EV review. Makes me want to throw up. Enough about Tesla already. It's not even that I think they're bad. They're OK. But people talking about them and their fans and the Elon worshipping and the auto-press constantly trying to come up with Tesla fighters and Tesla killers is really irritating.

    Beyond range, what else does Tesla have going for it? To me, range and supercharger network is about it. Maybe performance to a degree. But build quality, handling, ride comfort, solidity, interior features and a whole bunch more make cars, not just range. An EV is still a car.

    Sometimes the suite of technology is not ready for implementation at the time of the vehicle launch. CarPlay should not be a deal breaker especially if Volvo promises that it will receive the update over the air in the near future. If Volvo said that CarPlay would not be ready for another 6 months, it would be terrible to delay the launch of the vehicle just for that. Plus this vehicle may have to launch at certain time in order for the manufacturer to achieve their annual CAFE( Corporate Average Fuel Economy) Targets. Its also possible that the integration of CarPlay with the new system is just not ready and rather than have a so-so integration of CarPlay and bad customer experience, its better to just wait and launch the correct version over the air. Not a deal breaker given what the car offers in return for a daily commuter.

    Range is too low to be practical beyond short daily commutes. People with longer commutes won't like the short range. After having a Tesla I think the best range for occasional 2-3x week charging is about 400 miles (which is similar to most gasoline engine vehicles). Ford and Tesla are getting close to that range with the cheaper cars for sure so I'm looking forward to a more affordable electric vehicle with that kind of range.

    1- starting 2022 volvo models will not have leather key fobs in addition of removing electric rear child locks and compass from the rear view mirror. The xc40 r-design and recharge loose the optional lava carpet for 2022 in addition to a tailored leatherette steering wheel replacing the leather on all xc40s. 2- no problems with my care by volvo xc40 along with the fact that I don't know why anyone cares about satellite radio because spotify is CHEAPER and you choose exact songs you want to listen to, not the 150+ channels that you pay the same price for if you use them or not. 3- my car has the same interior (r-design) and to me it's perfectly fine in addition to the huge doorbins and glove box hook which you didn't mention. Overall very rushed, and not as thorough as the older reviews. Also didn't take the time to edit out at 15:27 when you ran a stop sign.

The fact that you wanted it there and then at that moment reminds me of a toned down karen asking for the manager to change the formula of a McDonald's whopper to her exact liking in addition to people like me who would never notice a detail like this until you have a small conniption fit on camera about it. Things I like: the speed, the interior (mostly), the exterior looks. The bad: the lack of Apple CarPlay. (Definitely a deal breaker for me), piano black plastic everywhere…ENOUGH!!! And a paltry 200-230 miles per charge…definitely a deal breaker. Thankfully I have my current lease on my VW for 3 1/2 more years so these companies have time to get their s**t together! And for what you get, the price is a bit too high. But a good review nonetheless!
