I am an American who is retired and living in the Philippines. Motorcycles that size are extremely common here. They are transportation for the masses. Honda also sells one here with a very good stop start system. An integrated electric motor in the drivetrain. Also Yamaha has an absolutely fabulous 155 cc scooter. I'm not sure if that sold in the United States. They also have a 250 cc version of it. Hydraulic disc brakes front and rear, ABS. Fuel injection water cooling. Very comfortable and easy to maneuver in traffic.

I've recently been lucky enough to buy a C50 from 1971. This is my first bike I've ever had and at the age of 39, I'm loving it. I didn't need it, couldn't justify it but had to have it. It's so much fun.

Honda sells a side stand for $125 plus a luggage rack for $79. I purchased Kijima saddle bag frames and a pair of Chase Harper saddle bags. The Super Cub looks fantastic with this added gear you can even carry MSR fuel bottles in the saddle bags. I ride mine everywhere even in winter. A Stanley trickle charger is a must with fused battery extension plug under the seat.

Same, although when my battery goes flat I usually just pop the clutch, which actually can still be done despite all of the electric gismos.

@@robdixson196 It is said that the year after K-On was aired, Japanese used guitar market was flooded with almost brand new guitars from K-On fans who figured out playing instrument isn't as fun as watching a music anime. Sadly though Super Cub anime isn't nearly as popular as K-On.

Though I guess teen fans would mose likely buy an Epiphone/Squire instead, but I guess there are plenty of rich kids out there as well. If only I could be sent back to Japan 2010, I'm sure I can find some good deals out there...

The Cubs were designed before the Internal Storage idea was popular. These bikes have racks for the back and baskets for the front. You will never see a photo or KZread video of moped carrying a rick of firewood or 100 pizzas under the seat but you will see it on the back rack of a Honda Cub!

I passed my motorcycle test on one in 1977 and still have fond memories. If you opened throttle fully and stamped it into gear whilst leaning back it would do a short wheelie. Despite all the abuse it never let me down 😂😂😂

You will want a car when it rains or if you buy T.P in bulk. Lol

The original Honda Cub, circa 1959 or earlier, had a centrifugal clutch and you up shifted and down shifted the same. But the goju (50) cc engine had only 3 speeds, and only a toe lever. Inside of the fully enclosed chain guard, the crankcase breather emptied out that enclosed chain, keeping it both clean and oily. A rock solid little machine. The large, square luggage rack would be stacked 2-3 feet high with various kinds of cargo - eggs, water cans, soups, etc. I ride mine all over northern Honshu. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying.

I had one of these. Best bike I have ever had! rode through floods that killed cars, went forever and in the UK their nickname was 'Crunchie' because changing gear was often accompanied by an awful crunching sound, which never seemed to do any harm!

The Super Cub Anime brought me here. Now I want one. Shit, the anime ad is working.

I bought my 50cc Cub second hand in early 72 when we got married. It hauled us round Adelaide until two became three . So the Cub Club has a special place in my memory.

This bike's first appearance in the 50's had the same transmission. I know, I'm 71 years old. Although I learned to ride on Euro bikes, my first bike that I owned was the brother to this sister (think boy's bicycle vs girl's bicycle frames) and it had 4 speeds with a clutch lever. The gas tank was on top where it normally is, not being a delivery bike. The tiny 50 cc engine was indestructible. I know, I abused mine like crazy when I rode it year-round, including through the snow with a knobby rear tire. All I ever did was put gas in it. I didn't know that the oil should be changed regularly. It didn't care. It always started first time, every time. My dad bought it for me in a bushel basket of parts, a frame and some separate wheels. My older brother-in-law helped me assemble it. Purchase price was $50 in 1964. Security system? Why would you need one when it can be tossed into the back of a truck or van by one person? This is the bike that "YOU MEET THE NICEST PEOPLE ON". This marketing strategy convinced America that we could have a "civilized" motorcycle that Marlon Brando would never ride.

@@bigglyguy8429 Anyone else think the C125 Super Cub would benefit from having one additional gear? To reach 70 mph? Granted, that many other geographical markets are happy with the Super Cub "as is", and rightfully so. But, having the transmission be capable of user-friendly low-speed riding and occasional light trail use while also able to survive on the Interstate Highway system and cruise at 65+ mph for longer trips would enhance this vehicle's versatility, eh?

They have a little lever on the gearbox, so you can go from low-range off-road and flip it back to high-range for the road. I don't think the new ones have this (and I have a KLX250 anyway, so I dunno why I keep looking at these things...)

Takes me back to 1965 and driving around Davison, Michigan with my buds on our Honda 50s. Carefree days in the summer sun.

The locator chirp may be intended more for use in countries where there may be hundreds of these all parked together. Makes it easier to find yours amongst the crowd.

I had a 50 cc cub back in the 60's. It was great for secondary roads and I couldn't kill it even when I used it for off road and crashed it into a grader. 45 mph on the flats, 55 mph down hill and not that bad even going up steep grades. It didn't need all these new bangles and bongles.

Just brought my wife one for Christmas this year. Brought it in November and sat up without starting it. Big mistake so I was able to get the seat up with the little power it had left and installed a trickle charger connector. Damn it was hard but finally got it installed. A MUST with this cycle. Under the seat. Honda should have this pre-installed.

I had one in I think 1969 it would 50 going downhill.

Honda Super Cub is a legendary motorcycle. It reminds me of my childhood back in Myanmar where Super Cub ruled the roads there back then. It is a really great motorcycle, super reliable and smooth riding.

I remember the Honda from the late 60's . Wide luggage rack behind the seat , high/low range transmission , it was great to go shopping with or in low range it became a good trail bike

I have a new 2020 Super Cub and I love it. It shares my garage with my two motorcycles. I added the optional kick stand and rear rack and now it is perfect for around town. Cook video!

I just bought one last week but waiting for the dealership to get it ready. I also had them add a rack on the back and a gel seat cover for better comfort. Was adding the kick stand an easy process!

It is good to see Honda returning to it's roots with a lineup of noob-friendly, practical, dependable, street legal and economical "people mover" motorcycles THAT SELL. Now if they would just bring back the "...nicest people on a Honda" ad campaign.

I have one and put 2k miles on it. Great commuter. I’ve killed the battery at least 5 times. I now have exterior post to charge the battery or to jump start it. Love it and it does 55 all day on the flats.

Dad came home from work on a Friday afternoon in 1965. He had stopped at a Honda dealer and bought a new Honda 50 for just $200. I was 15 and I had a driver's permit so I could legally drive a motorcycle in California. Dad didn't get a owner's manual so we didn't know where first gear was. He went back to the shop the following day and the dealer had closed down and was out of business. My brothers and I took over the little Honda which was powerful enough for skinny teenage boys. We still didn't figure out that first gear was below neutral so we assumed second gear was first gear. We thought the Honda was weak and we would push a driver until the motorcycle gained enough speed for second gear to power it to take off. Eventually, one of us figured out the gear shift pattern and the Honda could take off with both the driver and a rider. We were pleased. It turned out to be a great little motorcycle. Because of mistakes when we didn't know about the first gear, we all managed to crash it at low speed. The Honda 50 never got bent out of shape so we continued to drive it. I don't remember it ever quitting on us. We bought good used Chevy cars for $200 and forgot about the Honda. I loved it. It taught me how to drive. Adult drivers yelled at me for my goof ups but they were watching out for my safety. Thanks, California drivers.

A small coin can be used to open the battery compartment. A screwdriver is not needed, it was designed that way!

The overabundance of electronics and wholly unnecessary stuff makes this previously famously simple bike complicated, heavier and expensive.

The original Cub was made when Jpan was a developing country. Now Honda has too high labor and R&D costs to compete against chinese and vietnamese clones in the cheap and cheerful market. They have to make premium products.

Only if it comes with a 120+ mile range...I am a food courier and 90+ miles is not uncommon...pls extra range a must due to carrying a load. Also my experience of a C90 was it handled that crap in the wet, with me sliding down the road multiple times (despite having motocross experience)...my Sinnis Harrier handles like its on rails in the rain.

I love my 2020 model. I'm not a bike rider but this awesome metro bike has gotten me into small displacement riding. Which I enjoy very much

I totally agree with him about the electronic key, which really should be an old fashion metal key instead. Most of the time, too much electronics spoil the recipe . Also, lack of a side stand is crazy !

About "losing" your bike in a parking lot, if you were say, in Vietnam, you could park next to a few bikes at your favorite downtown coffee shop, and in no time a hundred other small bikes could crowd into the same block. That key locate feature could come in real handy in those situations.

Owned a 1979 mint Cub....loved its simplicity.

This is the bike that got me into motorbikes, i learnt to ride on one of these in the 70's when i was 12. it's an awesome bike.

It is NOT a scooter. It is a small motorcycle because the motor is mounted in the frame and not on the swing arm. And the RF key fob and lack of rear rack are major mistakes. But that said, Honda does make a great machine and this thing, with care, will probably out live it's owner.

I love it. Cheap and very well designed for urban use. Honda have hit the mark yet again. I bet it rides really well too. Excellent little commuter bike

I really hope Honda starts selling the Super Cub in Canada! The more I look at this bike the more I want it!

My first ever bike was a Honda PF50 moped. Then I got a Honda C50 which was OK but too slow so I wanted a C90 but was only able to get a C70. I love that bike it was fast, small so it got into gaps and really GREAT on fuel. It has a gallon tank. It was best in wet as it did keep the worse of the rain off you. What a great bike/own to ride in a city.

Actually you can push through from 4 to 0 in gears when you are standing still. I live in S.E. Asia and we have tons of bikes derived from the Honda Super Cub here. The cheapest ones still have carbs and almost zero electronics (thus can be operated with a dead or no battery) but last a really long time.

Some of the choices are based on the Asian markets where there are many, many, many of them squeezed into tiny parking areas. All looking the same. Hence the chirp to find. Also, the centerstand makes for more efficient parking - drive straight in, hoist up. Leaning bikes take up half of a potential parking spot next to them.

I remember these from High school in the 60's. Over the years I've had Hondas, Kawasakis, Harley's, etc. I went to bigger bikes for the power, speed, comfort & rideability. These may be good for around the neighborhood, but if you are going to get out into real traffic, I think you will need something bigger so you don't get run over by fast traffic. Rather than spend money on one of these, I think I'll go for the CB 500 or something even a bit bigger...a real motorcycle for the road. However, I may go for the trail model as I live in a desert area...and off road is a reality where I live.

The foundation of Honda success. There are companies that have never sold 100 million units total production line. My first two wheel ride was 1969 on my older step sister's Cub. If I remember correctly it was a 90cc with a 3 speed. Even back then, is it a scooter or is it a motorcycle? LOL I got a Trail 90 soon after that I did not keep very long and bought a 2 stroke dirt motorcycle. But, the running joke in 1970 was every motorhome or travel trailer came with a Cub or Trail 90 hanging on the back. I remember a rather large luggage rack available that would hold a milk crate, maybe that was only the Trail 90.

In Brazil we have the Honda Biz and the Honda Pop with this same engine. The Biz has a very interesting feature: a storage for the helmet below the seat.

If you wanted to look at a few of the other bikes in the Honda range they also have the DCT transmission. It's a great transmissions as it really is a Dual Clutch. Put in drive, release parking brake (yes, I said that), and go. Works like an automatic but is actually and automatic manual transmission. I have it on my Africa Twin and love it.

My father in law bought this honda 50cc in 1965 and he kept & use all his life ofcourse he repaird and overhaul engine few time but he have been using regularly till he died in 2005,

I don't know of a company that manufactures a range of products from outboard engines to scooterettes and from intercontinental tourers (Goldwing) to the most iconic car marquees. Honda is Goddamn legendary.

Scooters are 45cc to 90 something cc’s that’s now a motorcycle with leg guards and underseat tank . They used bikes like that here in Kalgoorlie Boulder to get the posties across town .

No, there's Vespas with 300cc. And lots of scooters with 125cc. At least here in Europe. Actually, scooters here are usually either 50cc or 125cc. I've never seen anything in between, maybe there is, but it must be rare. I think this has to do with the licensing schemes here, you can ride 50cc with a car license, 125cc with car license plus a little bit of training and anything above needs the big A1 license which requires a lot of expensive training. So, people either stick to 50cc or immediately go to 125cc if they don't want to go all in. But a 70cc bike or scooter wouldn't sell that well. If I go to the trouble to take the training to be allowed to ride 125cc, I darn well want to use it to the fullest.

I was just talking with a friend of mine in Ireland who had the original Honda 50 in 1978. he bought it slightly used for 225 pounds. Amazing that this is now around $3,600 for the equivalent modern version. Still a very cool little bike.

Love the Honda MiniMotos. I actually ended up getting the Monkey, but am trying to convince the wife that we need a Super Cub too.

This bike I must have got me!!!on 2x Loncin Venus,plus2×Jincheng Ronda,etc..ending Honda Innova 125ccm( and Honda Wave) I have got going as handicaped rider over 148 000km/9 Year's(over 92 500 miles)not proffessionals km/miles...from this far i have as riders on longing roads +-95 000 km (from my home more as 20 but mind not more as 400km/far at home GPS

In one day,let me 24 hour's I'm going 518 km/solo rider,471km/solo+tandem,and next record i have from 2018 year,from27.7 to do 3. 9. Rekord (1 month and 1 week) to do 4 000 km! I VERY INTERRESSED ABOUT RIDER'S THIS SMALL MOTORCYCLES LET ME OVER 9 YEAR'S(10 MOTO SESSONS)

I had a c70 and used it all round London..great bike and I should have never have sold it. Now Im on the hunt for a c70 or c90 but they're pretty rare. I would consider a supercub too but the keyless start and electrics put me off. Its a bike which would be stood maybe for 4 months at a time over winter and I want to be able to get it started easily, ideally with a kick start.

Congrats on getting your M endorsement! Riding on 2 wheels is a lot of fun. Definitely a different experience than what you get in a car. I look forward to these videos. Be safe out there brother!

I have one in Arlington Virginia. Everywhere I go people talk about how cool it looks. Favorite bike out of 115

We had the dual seat and a cargo rack. We drove everywhere pillion on the bike. My brother did 3500 km on one over a single Easter. Without the dual seat and rack we could never use this bike the way we used ours and all the rest of the features would then be of little use. The fourth gear is a nice addition though. The gap between 2nd and top was always a bit large leaving you in an awkward position on hills.

The cub makes a cameo in lots of anime. Evangelion and lots of Makoto Shinkai movies. I think that if you actively look for it you'll find it popping up in loads of series that take place in semi-modern japan.

Enclosed chains like that last for many years. They don't get dirty & have to be cleaned, the grease stays on them & you can forget about them like a shaft drive after the initial adjustment. I don't know why they aren't more popular.

I have the cousin a 21 Monkey. I've had over 60 motorcycles. This is the most enjoyable bike I've ever had.

Right on. I have 2 bikes and a 2019 Monkey. I just finished putting on 12 inch..."baby ape" bars. It's the most fun of all 3 to ride...by far. Love it!

I bought this SuperCub and it is a lot of fun to run errands and talk to neighbors who all want a ride.. they ask me if they should buy one and I say yes if you can buy it directly from Honda....some how they Honda Dealers in SoCal want you to pay cash and double the price... worst experience I have ever had in buy something..somehow if you can avoid a dealer I would recommend buying a SuperCub

A couple of points is Im sure they make an after market rear rack and basket to add. Also the battery would need to be stone cold dead not to be able to open the seat to access took kit. I would also add a small windscreen and side stand. Key fob alarm is a smart idea. Its nice but for me $3600 is a bit steep.

Please review the new 2021 grom when it’s released in the states! I had a 2018 and miss it dearly. I will definitely be getting the new one. Glad to see a bike specific channel here. Here in southern CA I’m blessed with genuinely not needing a car. A Yamaha R6 is my only vehicle. On the one day per year that it rains, I’ll take an Uber

Had the cb50, great little bike, then the CB160, that was a great commuter bike, loved it, then got assigned to Korea for 23 months, then I had the last bike a SL175, messed up my back, no more motorcycles til now, I’m now 77 and need a Super Cub in my life, you think?

The abundance of electronic gizmos should alienate those seeking a simple trouble free and easily maintained vehicle. This Super Cub will greatly increase the market value of the old C90 and C110

My first bike was a new 1961 Honda 50 when I was 15 1/2 years old. I could blow the doors off my friends' Sears branded Puch mopeds. That bike took me everywhere and I gained a sense of freedom and independence that astounds me to this day. I have no interest in owning the new cub, but if I wanted one for "old times sake," there would be two deal-breakers for me. The first and the worst is that high-tech "key" and the inaccessibility of the battery if it goes dead. The second deal-breaker is the lack of a kick starter -- little "retro" bikes like this SHOULD have a kick starter. No excuses, even with EFI, you can still kick start when the battery is real low.

Back in '61 I loved the great grandfather of today's bike and so did millions of others, it was the machine that basically put all of Asia on wheels and millions of teenagers here in America too. Today, 60 years later there is a new generation of the bike with 60 years of technological innovations, but with the same wonderfully practical design features available for today's young people to fall in love with as my generation did. My bike had a 50CC OHV engine with a semi-automatic clutch and I don't remember ever suffering the embarrassment of having to push start it. I would tend to doubt that the new version would lend itself to push starting either, but since I'm not in the market, I don't care. By the way, I have a Royal Enfield Bullet 500 and it has a kick starter which I love and actually use.

I love the idea of a keyless ignition. There have been so many times I have gotten geared up with my gloves on and forgotten my key in my pant pocket, I have to get off the bike and take my gloves off to get my key out of my pocket. It’s annoying especially when you commute on your motorcycle like I do. Also congrats on the new motorcycle license... keep the shiny side up and be safe.

i have never been interested in cars or bikes or scooters but my god this super cub is so beautiful. I really want one someday. Fingers crossed.

I like the way the bike shifts,but another bike that has that same heel toe shifter got recalled in the US simply because it was different from most other bikes.It was the kymco k-pipe.

The Kymco recall only effects bikes made between March 1 2016, and May 25 2016. The the transmission gears were put in wrong at the factory... backwards in fact, reversing the shift pattern which can lead to a dangerous situation for an unaware rider. It has nothing to do with a heel-toe shifter, most touring motorcycles come with heel-toe shifters. Edit to add, also seems to only be less than 500 bikes effected, and were fixed free of charge.

I'd say it more known as the C50, C70 & C90 The Uk versions also had a long seat so you could carry a passenger

in some countries the internet SuperCub has a luggage rack option and a passenger seat available that would provide more luggage space etc

Didn’t appreciate my Honda c90 cub many years ago. This is so cool it will be a great seller. I still like having a key though.

That automatic clutch almost got me killed on a C90 when approaching a traffic island when it refused to shift down unless the bike came to rest. The bike stalled and its a miracle that I wasn't mown down by the traffic behind me. After that I vowed that I would never ride another one..

I've NEVER heard of a super cub stalling. That's why Honda made the automatic clutch. So it cannot stall. I think your rear brake locked up or something.

Yesss I got one still my service once in awhile.....I luv it......

My early one in 1964 was 49cc and they had a c90 later.

Feels like a stripped down version of the one here in Thailand. Front basket is missing and the back seat, where did it go. They have a rail that can go over the mid section at the battery to protect your plastic covers

I have a 1966 Honda Cub 50. Your bike sounds just like it.

There is a confusion about the clutch on this bike. Honda Super Cub C125 has two clutches. One centrifugal clutch and one multiplate clutch. (Older models had only one multiplate clutch with a centrifugal mechanism ingeniously integrated.) The centrifugal clutch makes it easy to start from standstill. The multiplate clutch makes it possible to shift gears. The multiplate clutch is controlled by the same foot pedal as is used for shifting gears. Thus no clutch lever on the handlebar is needed. Smooth shiftings need coordination of the foot pedal and the throttle.
