Same here, about 13 years on Harleys but when i saw this redesign i knew i had to give it a better look and after doing much homework instead of going to a RoadGlide which was my original plan from my RoadKing I went and got a 2018 Goldwing DCT and haven't looked back.

Anyone that owns both a Goldwing and a comparable Harley, inevitably, the Harley will be gathering dust in the garage. Ask me how I know, lol. HD cannot compare in so many areas of riding. Not the braking, not the handling, not the vibration, not the acceleration.

Yes Honda is a very reliable brand as I bought a Honda 450S fourwheeler new back in 2K so it’s 20 years old and still runs like a champ along with my 18 year old Honda power washer and 12 year old Honda powered zero turn mower. I trust Honda.

I have a '19 DCT Tour. It took me about 4 months to be OK with the auto shifting. It is really quick. I was not comfortable with the shifting around corners but now I have total confidence in it downshifting.. The suspension is too soft for me and the saddle really sucks. All in all I have fallen in love with this one after having 350K miles on a "79, '97, and a '10. If you love riffing on the freeway, back roads and mountain roads, this is the bike.

I've had my 2023 Goldwing Tour for almost a month now. Yes, it's smooth and powerful with its 6-cylinder, 125 horsepower, and 125 lbs of torque. What I don't like: the automatic shifting in the city needs improvement. The bike is jerky when riding up to a stop light. From 3rd gear to 2nd, and from 2nd gear to 1st, it jerks, and it's not smooth. The dealership said that's normal. The second thing I don't like is the radio reception. FM stations fade in and out all the time even though I live only 45 miles from a major city. It's like the radio is missing the antenna altogether. The last thing that bugs me is the way Honda has you input your destination address into the navigation system and how it's difficult to save a location in your favorites location. The input process using the jog dial is tedious, so give yourself at least 5-6 minutes to input the address. What I love: the power, the smooth ride, the electrically controlled windshield, heated grips and seats, the beautiful LED headlights and foglights, and the storage.

My God, I love the sound of this bike HG-DCT-Tour. All Honda needs to do is address the problems with the shock strut dampers hitting their stops too much, out in more reliable electrical relays that live almost forever instead of for just for a few years, a bottom-plate armor to protect the engine belly from hitting speed bumps, educating first-time riders to avoid extended near-gridlock traffic jams that will wear out the clutches prematurely (avoid such traffic or switch to manual gear shift mode and keep it locked in first gear in such traffic).

Aidi Amran The BMW is a fine machine. It has more torque and speed than the Goldwing Tour. However, it is top-heavy and far less comfortable. I just finished an Orlando-to-NYC ride, and my 2018 Goldwing DCT Tour was a pleasure to ride. Also, the reliability of Goldwings is far superior to the BMW...and the dealership network is exceedingly larger (try to find a BMW dealership outside of a major city!), and maintenance is mostly proprietary to BMW. Lastly, the accessories for the Beemer are extremely expensive (BMW = "Bring Money With-ya"). With 44 years of production, you can't go wrong with a Goldwing. Good luck in your choice.

Aidi Amran I rented a 1600 GA in Scotland for 6 days...came home and bought a 2018 Goldwing DCT. The BMW has the “quickshift”, as stated above. The BMW has more power, better luggage capacity...the new GW Achilles Heel. But the Gold Wing is a better overall bike. The systems are better, Apple CarPlay, storage up front...the BMW has ZERO..and I means ZERO storage pockets outside of the top and side bags. Also the number of mods on a BMW is almost zero....mounts, upgrades, etc.....the BMW GPS is a Zumo that snaps into the dash. The Honda GPS is functional, but since you can run Apple CarPlay, you have several other options. Having s “native GPS” system will go away at some point...just give us a screen and compatibility and leave software to the software people...build a compatible screen. BMW 1600’s are good...and better in individual stats, but the Gold Wing is a better package and more complete ownership experience. My 2cents.

John Holland I think all novices should start out on a smaller bike....

No!!! And Hell NO!! This is NOT a novice bike. Take a riders course, get an old small bike (one that you can drop and pick up without alarming yourself with the damage), put about 5000 miles on it over a year. Then, take another riders course to undo any bad habits, and repeat. Then you might be ready to upgrade your bike. I’m not kidding!!

Generally the criteria for a novice street bike is try to buy used (less than 10 yrs old), around 400 lbs or less, no more than 50 hp, naked bike preferred (no fairings to damage if you drop it). Half of new riders give it up after 1 or 2 years so try not to spend big $$ on your first bike, there are always good used bikes for sale. So the Goldwing is definitely not a good first bike, and you should learn to ride a manual bike imo.

Yeah makes sense, but this bike is so cool. My issue is where I live I have to get on the highway to go anywhere. A 500cc rebel is not going to cut it, any suggestions?

I disagree with the comments. Its not the bike that matter as much as the rider. I do agree with Alan August, "Take a course. I (Kake) purchased my first bike, 2015 Honda Shadow Areo only a week after completing the basic course, and put over 20,000 miles in a year. NO Problems. Its all about throttle control, practicing and riding daily. In 2017, purchased a new 2015 Gold Wing F6B and now have ridden it over 50,000 miles. So yes it can be a first bike...but PLEASE take a course, and Practice, Practice, Practice.

The seat height is subjective. For me, it's not low. I can barely reach the ground, on my tippy toes. I'm barely 5'8" with a 28" inseam. So for me, it's not low. A bike of that size and weight, if I can't flat foot it, I'll never own one.

Jeff My man it’s ok I wouldn’t either for my first bike. The F6-B has a seat that narrows at the front and big at the rear. Allot of people don’t know this but you position your seat up front for better footing for shorties like us. At a stop. Then position back to rear when you take off. Or it could be not to wear such tight jeans. Try on yoga pants. Much better feel.

I think black pee bags should be mandatory for men over 50 yrs old when riding gold wings, F6-B’s. Just hang it on your boot and the catheter in side penus. Just the best experience while riding down the freeway.
