OtB_RedBaron was an absolute beast. He dominated NLHE highstakes for many of the 2010-years.
Let's revisit those times and explore one of many areas that made "the Baron" so good.
Keeping in mind, that we now have solver tools like GTO Wizard and PioSolver, which he didn't initially.

WHY WERE WE LOOKING AT KANU?
- Fun fact: Alex was actually one of a few people who got their hands on a private solver which had been developed about a year before PioSolver got released. The other 2 were Trueteller and RaúlGonzalez.

    Worth noting is that Doug Polk described Kanu7 as a very stationy player. Apparently at the time most people in the high stakes pool got there by being overly aggressive and Kanu7 exploited that by bluff-catching more, so perhaps his call could be viewed exploitatively.

    5:50 this is where theory has always lost me a bit, wouldn't this just go into an infinite theory leveling war? if the Sb wants to bluff catch with a 4 or 5, so then the Bb wants to bluff with blockers to Sb bluff catchers, now doesn't that make Sb not want to bluff catch with these cards because it blocks Bb bluffs? and so on and so on

  • @ltsjack

    @ltsjack

    Жыл бұрын

    Thing is BB has 54 which wants to shove whatever SB does, BB couples enough 5x and 4x with that to make SB hands like K4, K5 indifferent (since they block both bluffs and value) while a hand like KJo becomes just -EV. Does that make sense?

  • @matta5749

    @matta5749

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes you are absolutely correct. This is the process the solver is repeating against itself to develop an equilibrium. It can lead to some pretty insane plays like showdown value bluffs where a hand can profitably shove while having less than 50% equity but >0 equity when called. That means it’s profiting by both folding out better hands and getting called by worse hands. This happens when the best bluffcatching hands have low linear value.

  • @2CardConfidence

    @2CardConfidence

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah @@ltsjack explained it well - if we look at the SB's calling range OTR, it's basically 3 tiers of hands: 1. hands that block value with both cards - 2 pairs and sets (sets even beat value) - these are called full frequ. and are +EV 2. hands that block value, but also bluffs - 4x and 5x hands - mostly frequency calls, so ~0EV 3. hands that only block value with 1 card or less - pure folds and -EV calls

    You give the impression that you don’t play often. No one “constantly” gets there on the River over a large number of hands. There is skill in getting max value in some occasions in second vs first nuts. Particularly on turns and rivers. In very rare cases does nut flush vs second on the flop. Many players are careful with the nuts and large bet sizes on flop and turn. It’s critical to keep a villain in the pot when having the nuts

    @@HeliosDroneWorks The logic and reason that was required to comprehend and digest what was previously commented is at a high level, I will say that. And as a result, its not surprising that you bowed out. Deuces.

    @@TylerDavenport haha are you implying your comment was high level? I want to thank you for the laugh. Those were nitty comments for a non critical thinker. If you think otherwise that’s a sad event for you and this channel as your comment was highlighted

    'it's quite common that the pre-flop defender can't be defending too frequently' - very convoluted and unclear statement

    You can tell u ain't a track guy bc your "just put in the work" example was Usain Bolt - who definitely worked very hard, but whose success was clearly based on being a complete genetic outlier with a higher ceiling than any human ever :D better example would be Fred Kerley

    this 45 hand was not GTO at all, bluffs should never be required to go this high and there is no value in getting called except for relying on hero calling,

    that your solver has KJo X/Fing 44% very obviously shows that you haven't let the solver run long enough and this whole solve is absolutely useless

    'completely un-capped' would mean they can have KK. which they clearly don't. So the maker of this vid really is quite clueless about GTO.

    Instead of overtalking what the solver would do, it will be nice if you at least show us the hand. Trust me 90% of people here prefere to see the whole hand istead what the solver would do in any line. This solver nerdness is annoying

    This just looks like a fish play. Bet bet hit and shove. Betting with 5 high and rivering the nuts. And also calling preflop with 5 high. In a live game he wouldn't do it out of sheer embarrassment turning those 2 cards over to claim the pot.
