The first 3 albums it’s the same song in different styles but for the last 2 it’s been a completely different song but the purpose of it is to set the tone for the new album because the songs always in the style of that particular album

I actually think it’s albums 1,2,&4 that have the same intro! Each album has a theme it explores and album 3 explored climate change so the intro was Greta Thunberg!

It’s supposed to be self referential. Matty has mentioned it in a few interviews. It’s supposed to be like the play station sound when it boots up. It’s their way of speaking to their audience drawing them in and giving the vibe for their album. Each album is an experience as well so it makes sense 😊

It’s artistic branding - like the Sega Genesis opening before each game, they’re all different games but on the same platform. As the albums continue each intro 1975 track becomes more and more meta and different, with the same premise, an intro to the new album/era.

They've stated it's like when you turn on a Playstation and here that little start up jingle. It's that... go listen to them.

You could go and listen to each song. If you’ve got the time. Or you could just listen to yourself talk.

The vision was to replicate the sound when you turn on a PlayStation. The sound is a rhythm that propels you into what you are about to do. Ask questions, don’t judge.

The 1975 is alright. Not typically the type of music I go out of my way to listen to. What I'm more shocked by is the fact that Matty Healy is aging like milk. The guy is almost 35 but looks like he's 50.

They are catalyst tracks to let you in on the vibe of the new epoch they were inspired in

The first three 1975 titled tracks consist of the same lyrics but they are delivered in much different ways. They are also different musically. All of the 1975 titled tracks are the opening songs to each of their 5 albums. They are meant to be a startup sound (like a gaming console, news program, or really any startup sound that tends to change over time.) It introduces the listener to a new album and era of the band as the band mates and listener grow older. The last two 1975 titled tracks are completely different from the other 3. The first of the two debuted on their 4th album which featured Greta Thunburg talking about the climate crisis. The 2nd of the two appeared on their 5th album later last year which featured Matty Healy singing about todays society from the standpoint of 17 year old. To call this weird is like saying “the Xbox sound is weird” “why does every xbox startup sound similar” “Why does it have a sound? I know I’m turning an Xbox on” It just goes to show how innovative they are with their music and even on the flip side how unoriginal all music can be. But most importantly it shows how everything will change if you give it time. It’s purpose is not to be self indulgent, it’s to be aware that you’re listening a to a new version of the band. Plain and simple.

The 1975 from the first album is the best : "Taking up your mouth, so you breath through your nose" Taking up your mouth as in kissing you meaning showing you love and affection So you breath through your nose - breathing through nose is a good habit. So the lyrics is saying that I will make you a better person by loving you ....

It’s supposed to bring you into the experience. To stop you from what you’re doing. It’s always been their intro live as well. Maybe it’s just too cool for your school of thought. 😬

They explained that they wanted the first song of the album to kinda resemble “checking in” like how the iconic GameCube would start with their icon song when forming their logo. Not trying to be an ass, I just feel like it's the most obvious thing about their music. Matty isn't the most cryptic, difficult to understand lyricist out there, but his shit isn't basic, either. first 3 albums were different renditions of the same song: “go down, soft sound, midnight, car light” album 4 was a speech by greta Thunberg, album 5 was originally a song called “it’s about time” that they redid as “the 1975” (look it up the original version brings me to tears) it’s sort of a “this is where we’re at in the world, this is what’s happening, oh god were fucked” in a major key

As a 1975 fan I can help you out. So the songs on the first three albums they’re all the same lyrics with different instrumentals and the third album has really bad auto tune, their fourth album has emotional message from Greta Thunberg, and their newest album is completely different from the other ones and that’s my favourite one cause that’s a full on song and it’s a great song.
