yeah. it is a meme now. you see it everywhere. Everyone wants to die, people say it so casually which i think is wrong. If you like your life and are generally happy, don't say "i want to die" just to be relatable and because so many others are doing it. I feel like this whole depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts etc. thing has become so mainstream, people dont take it very seriously anymore because everyone says it and just casually mentions it like it's nothing. It's so sad. Everytime i hear someone say it or read it somwhere i think 'well do they really want to die or is this just a joke?' who fucking knows because everyone always says it

True. That's very unhealthy in my opinion tho. it will sound cheesy but really mindset matters. If someone doesn't have serious mental health problems then there isn't a valid excuse to say this they are just trying to be edgy and relatable. What they don't realise that if you say it so casually you will get used to it. I overheard conversations which went like "I wanna die. Don't we all?" I understand that this is a copying mechanism for a some but nowadays they are just overusing it. So pls stop encouraging negativity. (Btw sorry fo ranting but this topic really gets me confused everytime)

What's scary, though, is that because it's used so often you might just cross paths with someone who genuinely feels that way but because everyone treats it like a joke, it could have a negative effect on the individual. However, as others have pointed out, if they genuinely feel that way it's best they seek professional help.

Isaac Covarrubias it’s not really a deep discussion on dogma though. How about the fact that the three biggest religions are Abrahamic? They have the same base. Also it’s so casual and nihilistic to think you are smarter than Aquinas and that you could prove the inexistence of God. Not even Nietzsche could do that. Honestly it’s kind of metaphysically uninspired to think everything is meaningless, because if everything is meaningless, everything might as well be nothing. The world around us is real. The footprint you leave behind is real. You wake up in a real world every morning ready to face your fears and the evils of the world with courage and love, manifesting the momentum of your creation. What could be more true than that?

@@watermelontreeofknowledge8682 The two biggest religions are Abrahamic, the third is not. It's Hinduism. Fallacy number 1. Moving on, you speak as if because they have the same base that they are all true. Because of this why would you follow one and not the other? What makes one more right than the other? Looking past the idea that you assume I couldn't possibly be smarter than Aquinas without conducting an IQ test on both of us, however you and I can both agree that we are both more knowledgeable considering we both know that germs therefore disease are an occurrence of the natural world instead of the belief that disease is incurred by God's wrath. Because i am not making the assertion of the "inexistence" of any God or whatever God you're asserting the existence for (whether it be the Hindu Gods, the Islam God, the Jew God or most likely I'll take the guess that you are asserting the existence of a Christan God (because you are using the rhetoric of Aquinas)). To pinpoint whatever Christan God it may be would be extremely difficult because there are more sects of Christianity than paragraphs in the Bible and let's be honest, every denomination of Christianity can't be true. That goes for every religion as well. Therefore, because i am making no assertions the burden of proof falls on you. Lastly get out of my face with your subjective view of life and stop applying a subjective definition to the word truth.

I’ve been saying this shit forever!! It’s refreshing to see someone with a large platform bringing attention to this subject because most people don’t think about the reasoning behind things when it’s so obvious! They choose to ignore it out of fear and feel resentment for said person questioning their beliefs that they think are true. When people hear something all their lives as “fact”(lol) they can’t steer away and look at things from the perspectives of others. I’ve never related to an artist more in my life.

As someone in school to become a therapist, I just need to say if u are experiencing any sort of suicidal ideation, you should be getting help !! I understand Matty’s sentiment but it’s actually really problematic to put out the message that you should only be seeking help if you have a plan for suicide. Thinking about it is still unhealthy and can eventually lead to planning! You don’t have to be at rock bottom to go to therapy, try to go before that point!

That's a great sentiment and I have respect for the fact that you have schooling to back it up,but it's easier said than done. We can do the old "Seek help. Go to this place. Call this hotline." thing, but it's just not the reality for most. Mental health services are not as easy to attain, compared to care for physical injuries. This is compounded by the fact that a lot of people still brush off someone's mental health problems,as just being whiny or weak minded. Males have it worse, because society says that we're all tough guys who fear nothing. Living in a low income area, being a male, having no support system and having mental problems, is a recipe for disaster. I'm speaking from personal experience in regards to not only myself, but other people I know going through similar situations.

D F Im not saying it’s easy to get help or anything like that, because it is definitely hard ! but I don’t want people to think it is normal and healthy to have suicidal ideations from what matty said when it’s not. hope you are doing ok ❤️

I think what Matty is referring to is the figure of speech people use when something isn't going the way they want it. For example, when young people wake up with hangovers and they say "I wanna die". He isn't talking about the literal meaning.

I love Matty and know he means well but I think the last few sentences he said could come across as demotivating to some individuals with severe depression, with the idea of bringing others down or that you just need to put a bit of effort in. It just doesn't work like that, if you perceive yourself as worthless or life as meaningless or the biological changes in clinical depression make the state of your body be in constant pain it can feel more shameful to hear those kinds of sentiments. So I just wanna let you know if you're at any level of severity of struggling with your mental health I love you and you don't deserve to feel ashamed and please reach out ❤️ I love the song and the band, all good vibes here 🌞

I agree but I think he’s just being tough love about it and not enabling people. With mental health it’s so easy to become an enabler and allow people to destroy themselves and others around them and say “it’s okay because they have depression/anxiety/ etc” sometimes you have to really bring it home and be like if you want to get better you have to “just try” and help yourself first. It’s hard, don’t get me wrong, but it’s necessary.

i think he meant it more frim an relationships standpoints. you can’t expect other people to go down with you and help you all the way along bc at the end of the day it’s not their problem. i think what he was meaning is nothing is gonna change if you don’t try to help yourself. other people can try as hard as they can to help you but if you don’t put that effort in too to help yourself, you can’t expect others to keep doing the same. i think he just said it very harshly
