The triennial World Ballet Festival reigns as the foremost of the world’s many galas. The inaugural Festival in 1976 shook the world by bringing together three great legends, Margot Fonteyn, Maya Plisetskaya, and Alicia Alonso on the same stage. The festival has since built an enduring reputation as a unique opportunity to witness the current state of the international ballet scene.
The Festival celebrated its 45th anniversary this year, and once again, dancers united from all over the world to complete the 8 performances with thoroughgoing countermeasures against Covid 19.

名門バレエ団で活躍するトップダンサーだけを厳選して招き、3年に1度東京で開催する〈世界バレエフェスティバル〉。伝統と実績において名実ともに世界最高のガラ・パフォーマンスとして国際的に名を馳せ、世界が注目するバレエの祭典となっている。
〈世界バレエフェスティバル〉が初めて開催された1976年当時、有名バレエ団のスターが国や所属バレエ団を超えて一堂に会するのは稀なことだった。英国のマーゴ・フォンティーン、ロシアのマイヤ・プリセツカヤ、キューバのアリシア・アロンソという3大プリマが同じ舞台に立つ。そのこと自体が衝撃として大きなニュースになった。
その後も、最高峰のスターたちが誇りと意地をかけて至芸を競う〈世界バレエフェスティバル〉は、開催のたび熱狂と興奮のるつぼと化した。
45年間、さまざまな伝説をつむぎながら、20世紀から21世紀へと時代を駆け抜けてきた〈世界バレエフェスティバル〉は、2021年も「コロナ禍」という試練に挑み、徹底した感染症対策のもと8公演を実施した。
