    When I started ETL 8 years ago, I started by not measuring anything and grazing only fruits/veggies/nuts and seeds and lost 186#’s in 7 months and kept it off and still eat this way today.

    How do you get your protein?

  • @sarahd1706

    @sarahd1706

    Жыл бұрын

    @@melanieevans9206 There’s plenty of protein in plants. Horses, gorillas, rhinos, elephants, etc only eat plants & they’re strong. Cows too, & their milk (when raw) is jam packed with nutrients. Industries who want to make money will separate one nutrient out of food & advertise that people have to buy their product to get that nutrient. The animal product industry is big on doing that. No other species (nor humans before last century) worried about one nutrient or vitamin at a time.

Whenever I see beginners struggling in the groups too, I always try to say things like "one day on one day off is better than no days on" kinda thing, we're all works in progress! Kinda wish I was one of those robots who could just do it all 100% all the time tho. :D :D xoxo

    Hey, Cheri. ☺ I have been following your videos for a while, and have found it quite comforting to find someone else who is committed to the Nutritarian Lifestyle, and is willing to share their triumphs and struggles publicly. I have been doing the exact same thing on my Facebook page since October 2015, only on a much smaller scale. It started as a way to keep me accountable, but I have had so many people tell me how much they appreciate me sharing the good, as well as the bad. A few have even started the Nutritarian Lifestyle, and have lost a substantial amount of weight... not to mention, they feel amazing! As for me, I have lost a total of 90 pounds, 65 of which is thanks to Dr. Fuhrman. This afternoon, I registered for the conference at The Tuscany Suites June 9-11 (where Dr. Fuhrman will be a keynote speaker TWICE), and it occurred to me that you live there. Will you have a table at the conference? I would love to meet you. Sandra.

    Amazing Sandra, that is so cool how you have influenced people on your Facebook page as well, the same as me! You're a rockstar Nutritarian and keep that up! Very inspiring! Amazing to hear of your weight loss journey as well...it helps so much to motivate people when you can be that example. And yes I will be there, but not as any sort of presenter...just as a guest! I will be going to both of Fuhrman's talks and hopefully getting another book or two signed after on the second day. Would be so lovely to meet you as well --I'm sure our paths will cross and if you see me, please don't hesitate to reach out! :D

    I surely will. I, also, plan to have him sign two of my physical books. Probably the book that was so instrumental in getting me started... and... even though I bought the Kindle version of the Quick and Easy Cookbook, I went ahead and ordered a physical copy a few days ago, so that he could sign that. When I first started his plan, I listened to "Eat to Live" over and over on Audible. I would even set it to playing when I went to bed, and let it play all night. That worked for me. (I was doing it all alone. I didn't know about his website, or any KZread clips, or know anybody following his plan, and relied on the first Audible book entirely for my motivation.) But, I also had the Kindle version, and a physical copy. I think that I have pretty much every book he has written in all three formats. I wish that he would read ALL of his own books, rather than let his colleagues read them. I prefer his voice, and the subtle passion in his tone, to the bland voices... especially the voice of Chris Sorensen. No offense to his colleagues, but they don't quite have that special "motivation" like he does. I will stop rambling now. lol See you in Vegas!!! :-D

    Agree that the training is hard to make stick. Did a 6 week plan back in Sept 2016. It really help get me healthy and off all my medications after a Dr visit in March. Since then , bad habits have added 12 lbs back over that last few months. Started bingeing on wheat bread - banana - PB sandwiches!!. Recently had to start another 6 week plan to reset good eating habits.

    It's so good to see you! This video is incredibly informative. I usually eat one or two pieces of fruit a day because I think of fruit as just sugar but I sometimes want more. I'm totally overeating nuts, seeds, grains, and avocados which is probably why my weight isn't going down. I'll definitely try one new recipe per week and up my veggies and beans everyday. I'm a work in progress and your videos help me stay on track! :)

    It's so great to get a comment back from you Ms. Cathy! Thank you. I'm so glad the video was informative. Sometimes things feel so normal to me, but I figure maybe they'll help someone. I'm glad I went with my gut on this one and that it did help! What a great thing to notice that your intake of certain things is too high...yes, sometimes it's just a small tweak or being mindful of one small thing that can do it! When in doubt, think greens and beans!! :D :D We're all a work in progress, and I'm honored that you're working alongside me! xoxoxo

    Thank you for the overview! I started out well a few weeks ago, but have really gotten back into old habits. I'm starting to give up, but I don't want to. Is it typical to have to "restart?"

  • @HowToStopBingeEatingForever1

    @HowToStopBingeEatingForever1

    7 жыл бұрын

    Oh Mike this is wonderful news! good for you my friend. Let's just say that if I had a dollar for every time I "restarted" in the last few years...well, I could probably take you out to dinner at least! :D But I don't like to think of it as restarting as more of a continuous journey. I don't know if I've ever just "stopped"...I still always have *some* good meals here and there, whether it's a smoothie every day or whatever. And I just up the amount of Nutritarian foods when I'm doing better. I like to think of it on a percentage basis more, like I'm more 20-30% right now, but working towards a lot more. At my best, when I can do 90-100%, it's easier to maintain that I feel like because I'm so much more compliant overall...but we all go through what we go through and you're doing great to be restarting. :D Best of luck you friend and stick around!

    Hi Michelle! No it is not a choice of these limited foods. If having all of them (with the proper quantities) keeps you on and you still lose weight, then by all means. For me, I find that when I get close to my goal weight, I generally have to cut some of it out anyhow, because its too many calories. But you will figure out that intricacy and know what to cut out first (any of those foods) if you find the scale is not moving. :D

Very commonly, a blended up nut/nut butter plus dried/fresh fruit plus vinegar for instance, or say tahini plus lemon juice plus nutritional yeast, etc. :) Several videos on my channel about this as well!

    You are so welcome, Bianca, and thanks for watching! So spaghetti squash is categorized in the grains/starchy food category, so no more than 1 cup per day of those (includes oatmeal, rice, etc). And avocado oil would not be on plan, and would be unnecessary if you can learn to water saute instead. It is very easy to do once you get the hang of it! :)

    Great book! I think in my years of research I found that smaller healthy meals throughout the day is a better option. I have witnessed countless amounts of individuals who eat a big meal and then begin to get really hungry and then fall into eating less nutritious food. Think of it like if you went to the supermarket with an empty stomach... you are more likely to end up buying things like chips, snack bars, and sweet drinks. If you stay fed throughout the day around every 3 hours with healthy nutritious food you are less likely to think about those snack foods. Plan your meals ahead in the day to avoid resorting to snacking. A good plan goes a long way. Plus eating a large meal increases more insulin production and blood sugar is more likely to raise with a larger meal than small little meals. Remember the brain is weak when it is hungry. Just my own thoughts. Been plant-based for 11 years.

    Hi Javier!! Thanks for weighing in! I think the issue with people getting hungry before their next meal is that they are not eating the right foods. Nutritarian foods will allow you go get through several hours without hunger, until you experience True Hunger before the next meal, because you were full of voluminous plant-foods with lot of fiber. Most people who "diet" don't ever get this satisfaction, because they are trying to go on too little volume and too little fiber. Like eating a few ounces of chicken and a half a cup of broccoli and half a cup of brown rice and expecting that satisfy. Wen really it should be cups and cups of low-calorie, high-nutrient plant based foods, and then you definitely don't get hungry. Not to mention that blood sugar is not an issue when eating Nutritarian foods. It takes a lot of commitment to go full Nutritarian, but once you do, the hunger thing gets so much easier and you become truly satisfied on these meals. I have witnessed countless that have done this with great success! :)

    Yeah I agree with everything you said. I follow more of a McDgougall or Essylsten type diet because I have high energy needs since I am an athlete and have to eat lower on the fat scale like avoid nuts (which did end up raising my cholesterol and ldl). My C-Reactive protein on whole grains, beans, and vegetables is 0.3 a healthy level is under 4. Many people claim that grains increase inflammation, but as a Crossfit athlete and a large consumer of complex carbohydrates my inflammation is low. I think furhman focuses on more of that fattier foods like nuts and avocados to maintain caloric needs when neccessary. I highly agree that people should eat more high antioxidant rich foods not just starch based foods. I think it will vary based on each person. But I think specifically for fighting diseases like diabetes, cancer Furhman has a great food fighitng program.

  • @HowToStopBingeEatingForever1

    @HowToStopBingeEatingForever1

    Absolutely agreed Javier!! Fuhrman puts most emphasis on beans probably more, for athletes like yourself. He has some great meal plans for this, which also do include more fats and grains, you're right. But I think the overall idea is to just make sure to get more calories overall, without focusing too much on which macros those come from and having a variety is key. Some days might be more grain or starch focused, and others can be heavier on beans or fat, etc. Great comments and dialogue - thank you!

  • @HowToStopBingeEatingForever1

    @HowToStopBingeEatingForever1

    7 жыл бұрын

    Ahh Anne, yes I completely understand. It took me like 3 months after reading the book to jump in as well, and even then it was only because my friend made me the Chocolate Smoothie from Eat to Live and I was like YUMMM!!! And I definitely don't think that's a poor choice. It's not the most effective, but also, you gotta do what makes sense for you. Just a little advice tho, Nutritarian food can be very bland until you've really jumped in an gone for like 3-4 weeks STRAIGHT and your tastebuds adjust back to natural flavors. So it can make it a little discouraging. But a good idea is to make yourself try at least one new recipe per week and that helps a lot. GOOD LUCK Anne! You can do this. One day on, 1 day off is better than no days on. Ya know what I mean? :) YOU GOT THIS.

    I don't see why not, it's sodium and chloride, plus other minerals. It's a natural and abundant resource on the planet, like water. Our body uses these minerals for nerve and cellular function. Plus it enhances the flavor of food. Obviously excess sodium, or anything in excess is a problem (with the exception of animal-based products)

    However, keep in mind that if you are working out a lot - make sure you get electrolytes. Getting salt can be important for your health if, you lose a lot through sweat on a daily basis.

  • @HowToStopBingeEatingForever1

    @HowToStopBingeEatingForever1

    6 жыл бұрын

    Thank you for commenting Iana! Here is what Dr. Fuhrman has said on the topic: "Once you acclimate yourself to a low salt program, your body learns to be efficient and excrets less sodium in the sweat and urine, so the losses are less. A person eating conventionally and taking salt, will pour out much more salt in their urine and sweat. The problem arises when a person who is taking in lots of sodium suddenly stops, but their urine and sweat is still pouring out a lot. Then their performance could suffer and they could feel fatigue." So basically, if you are used to the low salt diet, then your body will adjust accordingly when you work out a lot at high intensity and in heat. Athletes should eat more calories of ETL foods to make up for the calories burned, and have more fat than non-athletes.

    Wow.... man it sounds like such a restrictive way to eat, but I do understand a little bit more about the reasoning behind it. I'm looking to change my diet to help eliminate a fibroid, and recently watched Forks over Knives, and also have heard of "Eat to Live" so am interested to know if Dr. Fuhrman has specific information on foods for fibroids. The other question I have is, this very specific guideline for eating that you described, is it a permanent lifestyle change forever, or is it for a time and purpose, like healing specific things? Is it a lifestyle change or is a treatment plan? Because I heard you talk about 42 days/6 weeks, so wondering how that fits in. Thank you so much for sharing your take on everything! It is a lot to take in and change all at once, but your video was helpful and encouraging.

  • @HowToStopBingeEatingForever1

    @HowToStopBingeEatingForever1

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi LindasRoses! Thanks for stopping by and watching vids!! :D So glad you are interested in this way of eating! It definitely seems restrictive at first, and I admit, even I had a really hard time getting started but once I did, I was SO glad. I lost weight so quickly and have never felt better. Its a strange thing, it's kinda like you actually open up MORE possibilities of things you can eat when you narrow down to several categories of plant based foods. Strange paradox, but many of us who have been doing this for a long time feel this way. Like "whoa, I didn't realize there were so many different types of fruits and veggies and beans and nuts, I can make so many combinations and they all taste completely different with different sauces and dips and dressings, etc." Pretty amazing! Takes a while tho. And on the fibroids, Dr Fuhrman has sad things like, "Fasting can help shrink fibroids and even help resolve bleeding, but is not effective when the individual is overweight. First the person has to become very thin ("Nutritarian thin":) for the fibroid to be impacted by fasting." So you'd have to follow the lifestyle for a while, lose the weight, and then do a medically-supervised fast at a place like True North (dont fast on your own). This is an intense treatment plan to do all the weight loss and then do the fasting, but it has been successful before, he says. And this is a lifestyle change, not a diet. The first 42 days are there to go all out for 6 weeks, to get you into the swing of this and get used to all the changes QUICK. You do that at 100% to get all the benefits like tastebuds changing, detox, loving the food, getting used to cooking it, etc. THEN you pull back to the lifetime maintenance way of eating, which is 90% Nutritarian foods, and 10% whatever else minimally processed foods, say some good quality meat and dairy or pre-packaged things like hummus, pasta, etc. But that's a very small percentage of diet. It's a lifetime thing because it's for your health, ya know? So it's meant to be for the lifetime, and not go back to Standard American Diet because it's too harmful. I promise, once you get into it and have detoxed and gotten familiar, gotten to goal weight, started feeling better, etc, you never want to go back. Hope that helps!

    Oh I'm glad you liked it. So protein comes from all plant foods, plant-based eaters have no shortage of protein. Calorie for calorie, spinach has more protein than steak, if you can believe it. Eggs are not necessary and are actually a poor choice when other factors are concerned, like saturated fat, cholesterol. If you are concerned about protein, just make sure you're eating a variety of whole, plant foods like legumes, beans, greens, veggies and nuts and seeds and you will get plenty of protein. I haven't met a vegan yet who is protein deficient. :) (And almond milk is good, but not a great source of protein, but like I said, not a concern if you eat whole plant foods)

    I have not lost weight on plant based diet. Actually I gained :-(. No oil,no sugar,no diary,no meat,no nuts. Still gaining weight. 54 year old female. I am truly at a loss. Thinking I should try Leto instead. I love all the variety in plant based though.

    I get that that feels frustrating when you think about how hard you're working at it! I don't recommend keto, but rather sticking around and figuring out how to produce weight loss on this lifestyle because it's better for our overall health. so i understand that its eat three meals a day and zero snacking but i have a sleep eating disorder where i wake every 45 mins threwout the night and i have a super strong urge to eat and its too stressful to go back to sleep without eating. some one suggested that if i resist then eventually ill be able to sleep threw the night without waking but this is a huge struggle and i find im already eating b4 i think oh man.. i was going to try to resist.. Do you have any tips or tricks for this? is the rule there for weight loss or for health? Is it unhealthy to graze threwout the day? Tks 😁

  • @HowToStopBingeEatingForever1

    Hey Shelly! This advice of resisting for it to go away eventually is spot-on. You've just gotta push through it for a while and get through that. Many of us have these strong urges during the day too, and it's the same advice. IT's just a little tougher because yours affects your sleep too. you've gotta shut off that habit, and you can only do it with abstinence. And yes, it's unhealthy to graze throughout the day. 2-3 meals per day is best for detox and being in what's called the catabolic state: more healing goes on then!

    3:40 I remember chewing that salad for like 20 minutes. I would actually have to take a break to rest my jaw. Now I just drop everything in the vitamix and chug it down. Money well spent.

    Yes that's one option, though we do want to be chewing at least one of our meals each day. We do smoothies too in the morning! Chewing is great exercise but also adds saliva/enzymes to our food to help process and break it down. :)

    Hi Cheri, I like to make a smoothie for breakfast with just fruit and almond milk. I think I should make it bigger like your green smoothie though to help me through the morning. Dr Furman talked a little about Intermittent fasting, did you do that at all? Awesome video! Awesome backdrop! I think you should put your cat in the video! LOL. Thank you so much

    You're the best, Deron! Great suggestions on the videos: I will make them stars more often!! :D hahaha. So I used to do intermittent fasting before it was a thing, starting in college and onward...it just made sense to me as far as schedule, and I felt like it was easier for eating less, etc. I have since found that to not really be true, after I did the 10 in 20 detox plan, I found that I actually enjoy 3 meals per day more, and I was able to keep the weight off as well (which I never could before) so i'm not sure, maybe it's related. It's all pretty involved as far as what keeps us on track individually but for me, I like the 3 meals per day thing more now. :D Thank you so much for the compliments! I'm liking this style as well!!

    OH! And about the smoothie. I feel you on that, but I would caution against just having fruit and almond milk, especially in larger quantities just because it's a lot of sugar and calories, without a ton of nutritional value compared to green smoothies. And if you can pack some spinach in or other veggies that don't have a lot of taste like zucchini, then you can get much more value there. Especially if you're going to increase the size. I love smoothies, but I don't really eat just fruit ones, because it's a bit better to just eat the fruit if you can, so it's absorbed just a little slower, and I always thought to myself "well if I can throw in some veggies for fiber and nutrients (like spinach or kale or zucchini, etc) then why not?" :D Just some thoughts to ponder. :D

    Just started Eat to Live, but I have to tell you, it does not fill me up. Like today, I had a big green salad with cucumbers and shredded carrots and use the ETL tofu ranch salad dressing followed by the Golden Austrian Cauliflower cream Soup and finished off with a raspberry, blueberry and cantaloupe dessert. By 4pm I was hungry all over again but I was on the road to buy more veggies and ended up buying 2 chocolate cookies to satiate my hunger. Without Starch, you're hungry very fast. Not sure what I was doing wrong?

    Hi Abi!! So it's one of two things: either the portions in the meals you are eating aren't big enough, or you're actually just craving rather than hungry. (*see the difference between true hunger and toxic hunger) I'd be willing to be your portions just aren't big enough. The coconut aminos isn't really an ETL food as it's very high-sodium compared to natural foods. It's something we can use on a very limited basis, but not really often, kind of thing. I have a video on how to flavor soups without salt, and the tips are applicable to any ETL foods, it's a great start.
