Agreed. Wonderful to see.
Deserved it! Congratulations, new number 5 of the world 🎉👏🏻
Well that was absolutely ridiculous, what a performance in the final in the biggest match of his career. First of all just wanna say this is the best tournament on the PDC calendar, I just love it so much and it gives us such exciting matches right from round 1. This tournament has been brilliant and was so open after the first few days. We not only had a new winner but 2 new finalists and 4 new semi finalists. I did say before anyone could have won the tournament from the quarters onwards and it’s just about whose better on the day and my word Nathan Aspinall played the match of his career in the biggest night of his career so far. After the first 2 sessions when it was locked at 5-5 with Nathan doing a Jonny by taking out some amazing ton+ checkouts but not scoring as well as he has been in the tournament and everyone thought it would be a close final after seeing the match level at 5-5 but Nathan had other ideas, from the moment he hit his first 180, it was an absolute onslaught. The scoring, the finishing and just the overall pressure he applied on Jonny was absolutely immense to win 13 out of 14 legs and 11 in a row. Jonny didn’t do much wrong except obviously missing a few doubles but when u get a limited amount of darts at a double, the pressure increases to hit it and the hand doesn’t react as normally as it would which makes it harder to hit it exactly where u want. The final leg showed that, with both players feeling what was happening in that situation and they were both thinking about it. It’s never easy to throw the darts when ur mind is all over the place. Credit to Jonny for reaching the final as well and with everything that is happening with his dad at home, he played absolutely brilliantly the whole week and even in the final he didn’t play poorly, it’s just that Nathan played his best match of the tournament where it mattered most and he deserved to win in the end. I did say whoever wins the tournament deserves it because in this long format there’s simply no flukes. I was rooting for Jonny but u have to tip ur hat off to Aspinall for that performance and after losing a few major finals recently he did say he won’t lose another one and he was absolutely right. His name goes down in the history of this wonderful tournament and for this being his home tournament, victory could not taste much sweeter. Nathan is a fantastic player and on his day he can be unplayable at times and he showed that tonight. Cant wait for next years Matchplay already.

From all the way over here on the West Coast of the US, I have enjoyed watching both of these players for a long time now. It’s good to see the way they play, and how incredibly well they play. The consistent high level of precision play on display is truly hard for a mere mortal player, like myself, to understand. It’s humbling to watch. All these professionals are incredible.
Idk if it is just me, but I enjoyed this match so so so much, because there is no toxicity, no bullshit going on, just two great guys throwing darts, enjoying the occasion and appreciating each other. Sure, everyone expected and probably hoped for a closer match, but my heart is not only happy because my favourite player won a well deserved title, but also because Clayton - by showing huge respect and by being humble in defeat - made it a memorable darts night altogether. Two of the absolute greatest chads on the circuit. Amazing tournament for both of them, and congratulations to Nathan 🎯♥

That’s called being a snowflake mate, professional sport needs a bit of bite and drama. Unless you’re watching an absolute master like tiger woods, Taylor, Ronnie O’Sullivan etc

@@MrSimonsonLifts There does not need to be toxicity for there to be drama. That ending was dramatic and it was a very entertaining match. If you'd prefer every match to have the cold feel that Mason v Taylor at the 2007 world championships had then that says a lot about you as a person. Perhaps you need to look inwards and examine how toxic a person you really are.

Justice has been done. Nathan was terrific in the Premier League, and was extremely unlucky to miss out on the play-offs. To grab the 2nd biggest title in the game after such a disappointment speaks volumes for his bottle and tenacity. One of the most richly deserved title wins in recent years. 👏🏿

That 170 did something to Clayton and it's like he just accepted fate after that. Great match, I didn't expect that, a worthy winner
That was one hell of a Matchplay final right there! I know how much it meant for Aspinall to win that title! I also know how much Clayton wanted to win that for his Dad but ultimately he will feel gutted about losing to the Aspinall cause he was just too good in that final! Finally we’ve got a new matchplay winner!
At 5-5 I genuinely thought we were going to have a tie break ending, then Nathan Aspinall just went God mode, absolutely phenomenal and not many players could have done anything about it, gutted for Jonny but equally as happy for The Asp, what a final and what a tournament!
Wow Nathan, well done M8. Well deserved to you and your lovely family.
Awesome win ASP!!! Congratulations on a well deserved and overdue major title!!! Love the camaraderie and respect to each other! Great match!
That finale was great no matter who wins. Both are amazing players.
A career defining display from The Asp. What a time to step up and make a statement. This will give him so much belief for the future. Well played Johnny, will be more for you, but tonight there was a deserved winner 👌👌

How beautifull and fun to watch that this player is complimenting each other when they finished a set good and check out a high score. Kudos to this kind of player. Game on..!!
Great sportsmanship from both players
That 170 was electric , anyone else noticed the difference with how the players are interacting on stage seems more friendly now through the matches , I'm wondering if the hate that Gerwin price was subjected to has brought about this change , I think it's a good thing not necessarily for passion player like price crowd is way better behaved now and really into the darts , what a match worthy of the Taylor trophy the asp was lethal tonight.
Ngl I was expecting this type of performance anyway, but from Clayton, not Aspinall. You wouldn't believe that his average was 96 in the end, cuz it feels like 105+ by the end, his game was just that good. I'm so thrilled he finally has his first TV major in 4 years
@leveller3910
10 ай бұрын
His average wasn't the best partly because he was having to hit all the doubles. If Clayton pushed him a lot closer it would have been higher.
SPOILERS Nathan was simply amazing today. Jonny had a good performance as well and kept up in the first 10 legs, but today was Nathan's day, no doubt about it! Hats off for both of them and the rest of the players in this tournament for putting on a fantastic show throughout the tournament, and congrats, Nathan, for a well deserved victory! 🏆👏

This is what you want to see in darts, the respect, no animousity what-so-ever... players that just want up to play darts, no mind games or that
Just like Nathan in his UK open win he got his signature 170 finish. Just awesome darts and with the trimmed down darts he's scoring better.
Good hell Asp. That was incredible!

A lot of respect for each other, great to see. Congratulations to the ASP.
The amount of respect oozing from these guys makes me proud to be a darts fan. Both winners in my eyes.
Just awesome. Been such an aspinal fan for who he seems to be having fun winning or losing he loves seeing opponents hit great shots just as he loves hitting great shots. Happy for him!
Goodness gracious me, what a thrilling finale to one of the best World Matchplay tournaments I can recall. By the second break at 5-5, it looked as though Jonny was going to run away with the title. But Nathan I think must have found a new gear at the start of the 3rd session, because from that point on, it was a slaughtering of epic proportions (13 of the next 14 legs won, including 11 legs on the spin and an amazing 170 finish). Jonny tried to pull back at the end, but he was just gassed. Very major congrats to Nathan, he is a truly deserved winner of this tournament.
What.a.performance! Great game vibe between those two
About time the asp won a major he's a quality act jumps his ranking up now also well done nath up the Northern boys
Well. Get in there, Nathan! I did not expect that at all. Was looking like a really close game… and then Nathan just takes off and gets 11 legs in a row to race away. Including a 170! So that’s both major wins of his that have included a 170. I feel for Jonny, he wanted this so badly for his father, and I really hope he pulls through whatever it is he’s going through. But he simply did not know what hit him tonight. Thanks for another great World Matchplay. 🎯
Two incredible sportsmen 👏👏🇺🇸👍
Congratulations Nathan.
Much respect for Aspinal , he had few though years but worked so hard for this victory .
What a match, they first 10 legs were amazing. I’m so glad the Nathan finally gets a big reward. I also hope that everything works out for Jonny back home. He’s a great player and a good guy, here’s to the next tournament for him.
Great job Asp! You earned it and played great darts. It was great to see how loose and good humoured both men were when competing. It's a big deal but it's also just a game. Good on Johnny for being a great sport.
Be proud ASP, congradulations 🎉

А я ещё лет 5 назад говорил, что этот парень будет преемником Фила!! Как-же я рад за него!!!✌✌✌
Great darts and thoroughly top lad.
Crazy match that 🎉
Bravooo!
Well done buddy...long overdue!!!!!
Two of the nicest guys in the sport, honestly couldn't decide who I was going for before I watched it. I always thought Aspinall was good enough to remain in the top 10 for the next 10 plus years, but what he displayed after the 10th leg was incredible and very few darts players can do what he just did, I now believe he has the potential of being compared to the likes of MVG and Taylor if he continues to find that consistency as he has a whole career ahead of him
my man is burning 🔥❤
People can say there was no MvG, Smith and Price. But that is on them for crashing out early right 🤷🏻♂️. Nobody else deserves to seize this moment more than the ASP, with everything he went through, was on God mode after the tenth leg 🤩 and now at a new career high ranking 📈. Commiserations Jonny though still brilliant to reach the final 👏 despite personal problems, and we hope things better better soon 🤞.
