The 1000km race. RACE AROUND RWANDA #1
Спорт
What an immense privilege this was. Rwanda is an incredibly beautiful country and I got to race my first ultra cycling bikepacking race together with Juliana Veterano, who I met last year at Migration Gravel Race in Kenya.
A 1000km self-supported single stage race, the route featured ridiculous amounts of climbing, stunning (and challenging) gravel roads, beautifully smooth tarmac and sooooo many funny moments. It was incredibly tough but at no point did I want to be anywhere else doing anything else - it was just FANTASTIC!
In this video we start the race pre-dawn in Rwanda's capital city Kigali before heading out into rural Rwanda. It was a day filled with numerous literal - and metaphorical - ups and downs.
Hope you enjoy it!

'Little tyke' lol. So gentle a term!
What a landscapes and people, quite an experience. That last shot though: "Can we have the menu please?" ... like all of it 🙂

It probably was like: "-What would you like from the menu? -Yes"
Wow!!! What an incredible place to ride a bike. Thanks for sharing Juliet ❤️🏴

What an adventure! Looking forward to the rest of the series, as always, Brilliant!!
It is bananas how quickly you went from smiley happy Juliet to feeling like crap. What a bummer. Still love the video. I have waited until you uploaded all of them so I can binge them.
Beautiful video! Looks like an amazing ride!

Another brilliant video ❤️❤️🚐🚐 xx i loved Africa! Did 2 charity trips in 2002 n 2007 to Uganda and the roads and scenery are virtually the same as Rwanda x
You both are my heroes!! 🤩🤩

Really cool
its amazing how quickly "bad food" can affect you, especially when your body is working overtime anyway to keep up with your energy use. You were so happy prior to this, and looked very unhappy afterwards. Look forward to the next episode :)
Didn't see any racing, but looked like a fun adventure !
Awesome! It’s days like that where it takes 30mins to wash off the grime in the shower! I hope you weren’t too crook in the end.
Hope you felt better after some proper food! looking forward to the next video! :)

Hi nice video and great experience! I’m gonna be there for the race this year and I was wondering how really bad the situation with the malaria is?! Thanks a lot for your feedback.
Fantastic video as always! What do you use to film these videos on the bike? The audio and video always come out great!!
Congrat for the adventure! what was the size of your tire 40, 45?
Fantastic adventure - locals looked stoked to have you riding through apart from the would be camera thief 😉

True that!
I know the feeling of, “There no place I would rather be”. on a self-supported ultra. Is there a possibility of you doing the 2023 Tour Divide in North America?

Not this year as my daughter is too little to leave for that long. I’m aiming to do it in five years

What headphones are you wearing? Are they SHOKZ? Looks like them, except they're upside down. :)
@JulietElliottsChannel

Yeah they’re Shokz. If they’re upside down it’s because they’re not in use. I just hang them round my neck when I’m not using them
Only 40C. 🤯
Hope your feeling better

What do you mean?
the brave part about it sometimes is the eating, you must be careful specially if not aclimated and specially if u r not used to eating meat. I try to keep to natural lil processed foods...On ocassions, Eating local has made me sick and pushed to abandon...

Yes, you are right, the food part of an ultra is a big part of it. We had to make do with whatever we could find once my supplies from home ran out
Good video but where's the new kitten?

She is getting MASSIVE! Eating non stop and growing up too quickly
Yeah I think you have to be careful filming in certain areas & displaying expensive items on your bike just so you don’t make yourself a target but the countryside looks awesome 👍

18 thousand metres of climbing? Sure you don't mean 1800 metres?

@@JulietElliottsChannel Wow! That's a lot of climbing! :)
Not sure why it was called a race. Looked like a very leisurely ride with lots of stops to eat and drink and not worried about the clock. Bet it was beautiful though.

Oh yes, so very leisurely. Only 18,000 metres of climbing and 40 degree heat. Piece of cake! Please document your attempt!
