I guess it is great idea but wonder if population base is big enough or the viability is dependent on visitors who may be limited because of draconian policies of most governments but mighty $$$ twists the sober thinking.

Wow. An actual USEFUL project for a change.

Also in Denmark we now have a King but his actual position is mostly Ceremonial and not with much actual power. In spite of this tradition from more than a thousand years back, Denmark is one of the most Democratic Countries in the World, with frequent election of Politicians for our Government!!

Wow ! This is an amazing project. Well done Dubai et al. in the Middle East !

And here in the UK we couldn't even get HS2 running after 15 years in the making.

bet you didnt know it history, if UK politic didnt get in the way hsr2 would complete by 2019 and no route cancelation and the price is around 16Billions

In contrast, Alberta, Canada has 3rd largest oil reserve, plus just as much NG, yet for 30 years they are nowhere close to being able to afford a train between the two cities of Calgary and Edmonton. Each city is +1 million in population. The distance between them is 375 km and the tracks already exist.

It took Toronto longer to add a light-rail spur to the airport. Private transport companies held that at bay for many years, & no doubt some politicians made out like bandits.

that is not only for the emirate of Dubai its for the United Arab Emirates as the name of the Railway itself means United

Notable: Middle east has shunned all europeans & US involvement in the mega project. China and South Korea got their noses in all the way. Even Japanese are not involved, India can just forget to be near anything except sending manual labour for this project.

@Brightlight-bd9jc As a Dane I mostly see the area as home of some religious areas of importance to Muslims, with a yearly pilgrimage and a present project of building the Line, which may or may not be a coming housing project for many thousand people, if ever finished? But I honestly have no idea of how things function, as the closest I have been to there is Egypt up and down the Nile several times. And from that I'm not really impressed about Arab effectiveness!

@Brightlight-bd9jc The only Muslim Country I have ever visited is Egypt, in Africa! (Many/several times (and once via fine, one directional roads from Hurghada to Luxor)), so I can't tell about other areas (I did hate the loud calls to prayer, several times a day! Can't they find out to use an App on a phone, for those?). And much of what has been planned in Kuwait is now going back into the sea, as based on pumped up sand, and seemingly not being able to be sold for their original purposes. I will look for the development of the Line in - Saudi Arabia, which may, or may not function (Some experts doubt it will function?). Finn

USA did the same, the rail ways and the roads connect Nevada, las vegas with Texas with new York... But they do lack the brain because they letting another one doing all the work for them Instead of joining the work and learning, so they could at least do the minor projects by thier own They are rich and lazy not like singaporeans

Very impressive project . Just shows what you can do if you have capital and vision . It will definitely change the region for the better . Guess only China can execute an operation of this magnitude- highly automated and mechanized work.

There are at least 25 countries in the world, which could easily do the this job. But China has it's own interests (keyword: _the new silk route)_ and is willing to invest a lot of money here.

@@mariokrings Countries don't manufacture trains and rolling stock ; that is the job of private companies like Talgo,Bombardier, Stadler etc. except in China where the train manufacturer is state owned . As for the railway operation it is either run by private companies or the national govt. And this project is one of the most challenging since it runs through the desert - hence it was awarded to the Chinese company .

@@xcel5203 you weren't specific before. You didn't talk about the trains and rolling stock particulary. And still: Japan, Korea, Germany, France, Italy, Spain could deliver those easily. The chinese expertise on modern railway systems goes back to imported german, french and japanese technolgies. Fright trains and locomotives are build all around the globe.

It is a political and silly proposal. It will be expensive to build, and operate, and not a cost-effective way of transportation. That area can support the population and life easily. The entire peninsula has no single river, extremely hot and humid. It will take half of the world's energy resources to develop the area and just live indoors.
