The 10 Worst German Aircraft

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Ever since the Lilienthal brothers bird-like gliders of the 19th Century, Germany has been batshit crazy about flying machines. Rocket fighters, suicide pulse-jets and airships over three times longer than a 747; seemingly nothing was too crazy for the Germany aviation industry to try in the 20th century. Here is a kladderadatsch of unheimlich German aircraft that will make you spit out your Spätzle with profound schadenfreude.

Honestly, I would not have put the ME323 on the list. I realise that I may be biased, as I have a bit of a soft spot for this big airborne chungus, but I'd argue that the Gigant's shortcomings were due more to strategic blunders and the inability of the luftwaffe to maintain air dominance than to any fault of the aircraft. In the modern day, the equivalent of the ill-fated Afrika Korps supply mission-- sending a group of poorly escorted C5 Galaxies over enemy-held terrain bristling with SAM batteries and interceptor bases-- would result in the same kind of massacre, but no-one really considers the C5 a "bad" heavylift transport aircraft.

Great aircraft but I am surprised you left out the Bachem Ba 349 Natter. Unless that was number 11. I would have put that ahead of even the ME.110 since its later variants kind of made up for it. The Natter may have had the first man to go supersonic in its failed test piloted flight. Of course it's ended is rather graphic.

Excellent content but, unfortunately, the audio is awful. Apart from upgrading your mic, use a pop-guard & compress the narration track to even out the differences in levels. Finally, side-chain the music to the compressor so it dips in & out between the narration & won't drown it out. Hope this helps.

I do appreciate the effort you made on the research and script writing for this video. However, as an engineer, i have to strongly disagree on your statement, that the Dornier Do 31 is one of the worst german aircraft ever build. The fact to the matter was, that the Bundeswehr ordered an aircraft with this sort of capability. It was known from the get go, that it would be a specialised and very expensive aircraft, wich could do everything a helicopter could do, but faster. It was the Osprey of its time and the only thing that ultimately stopped it from production, was politics. The Bundeswehr changed their requirments because the political climate allowed them to and therefor such a specialized aircraft wasn't needed anymore. Technologically, this aircraft really stretched the bounds of would was possible at that time, mechanically, as well as electronically. It really does not deserve to be on that list and frankly, anybody that thinks otherwise probably does not know enough about the matter. If anything, it was political misjudgment, wich ultimately was the reason for the requirments that the Bundeswehr put out.

I can think of positive and negative angles to take on the Do 31. Just good to talk about interesting aircraft like the Do 31. The other aspect is we wanted a nice mix of types in terms of roles and periods.
