    You should do that in the install part of RPi OS. Click the gear that will open a dialogue that will let you set a custom url for your local network. I use the name of the specific printer. It will also let you input wlan info, and set a user and password all will be baked into the RPi OS install.

    If you don’t install Klipper screen you can VNC into the RPi and use the copy sd card utility to manually back up your entire sd card/drive. Having a local copy is the best practice, as sd cards are prone to failure due to power cycles. Takes a few seconds to swap out a corrupted/dead sd card

    Installing klipper screen on the SV-07 will brick the printer. Sovol uses a custom FW / fork of klipper for their MKS pi/ pad 5. I have the 07 and the 07 Plus.

    @@jeffdavenport469 I feel Klipper screen is a huge mistake. It kills 98% of the Pi’s functionality. Like being able to make a 100% backup of your setup. I use an iPad with all my printers in its own tab in password/biometricaly locked Brave browser. There is zero need for a screen on the printer, ZERO. It just adds more headache to the process

    @@geauxracerx I would GREATLY appreciate how to do this. VNC being a remote control I can't get my head around how. I use naturally ssh and also winscp to access files on the pi, can you use that to do the backup ?. Is the back up a bare metal image backup such that the file you transfer to your PC is an exact image of the sdcard. As you can see, easy to say this can be done, but I don't see how ???, any chance of a tutorial or reference to a YT vid that actually 'does it' rather that say it can be done. Rgds.

  • @geauxracerx

    @geauxracerx

    @@joeking5211 to VNC in first you have to Sudo raspi-config ( can be done in SSH ) Down to 3 Interface options Down to I3 VNC enable Save reboot. VNC is now enabled and you can use VNC Viewer to have Remote Desktop access On the Desktop in the taskbar click the Raspberry/ down to Accessories/ SD Card copier. This makes a 100% copy of your main sd that you can just pop in should your main one stop working, as they are very prone to do. You can have that first one, or work in a routine where you periodically make a backup. This is how I do it as it keeps it as up to date as possible. I shoot for once every couple weeks. I just reformat the backup sd card and create the new backup. It’s really fast considering it’s making a complete copy.

    Great video! You production quality is getting better for every video! I think it would have been worth mentioning that klipper and octoprint is not mutually exclusive (see octoklipper), one is after all a firmware and the other is a front end, I felt it was a bit unclear sometimes in the video what Klipper really is and what moonraker/mainsail/fluidd is...

    I like the idea of macros but sadly setting them up just doesn't work with the way my brain does. One that I'd love would be to restore a failed print. I'd love to just select a file and tell it to start at a specific layer or height without having to go in and edit the gcode and hope for the best. If i can see on the display that a print failed at 16.4mm I'd love to just restart the print and tell to start at 16.4mm. Absolutely no idea how to even start something like that though ... I'm like steve jobs that way. I just come up with the great ideas and wait for someone else to figure out how to do it 😉

    Just use a old phone or tablet. Cheaper and probably have a drawer full of old phones. Much better too than the klipper screen as you get the full web interface, plus connect all your printers to that interface so you only have on screen rather than 5-10-20 depending on your set up. Touch screens are great for single set up or even two printers but when you get into small game status, it’s a lot nicer to have a single HMI rather than one for each machine. If you’re from the manufacturing world have a HMI for each makes sense but not in 3D printing.
