The 10 Most Influential Sneakers of the Decade
Just as fashion saw major shifts across all facets of business this past decade, so did footwear. Now a multi-hundred-billion dollar industry, footwear owes much of its meteoric rise to sneakers and its surrounding culture. Once a niche underground world living within long release lines and internet forums, this collecting subculture found its way into the mainstream, becoming the launching point for many young people’s infatuation with fashion.
Sneakerheads were thrusted into the global spotlight when certain coveted releases during the early part of the decade caused absolute pandemonium. News outlets, local and international, covered the chaos that ensued at malls and boutiques alike, from the overnight campers, to the fights, riots and arrests. Despite the apparent dangers however, people became fascinated by this world, the camaraderie it promotes and the status it brings. Now it seems everyone has a sneaker “collection” at home.
At the same time this mainstream adoption was happening, fashion and footwear were deep in a digital revolution, where blogs and ecommerce supplanted longstanding print publications and physical storefronts. Brands and retailers looked at the disarray that was now following traditional in-store releases, and began digitizing sneaker culture, creating social media communities, online raffle systems, augmented reality experiences and more.
Soon, demand for product, vintage and new, outgrew supply, leading to the secondary market boom of the latter half of the decade. It’s no longer just eBay and traveling conventions, but now there’s a whole stock market for sneakers, keeping track of their value in real time. Heritage auction houses like Sotheby’s have even brought their curatorial expertise and prestigious clientele to the reselling community, offering some of the rarest sneakers in the world to its most serious collectors.
The decade wasn’t all hype and digital reconstruction however, as the past 10 years also brought about some of the most advanced and rather necessary footwear innovations in history. From 3D-printed sneakers and auto-lacing systems, to sustainable, fully-recyclable footwear, the industry is primed for a bigger, brighter and more responsible future.
But before we enter the 2020s, we wanted to highlight some of the most influential sneakers of the last decade, kicks that have helped propel many of the aforementioned industry shifts. Here they are, the 12 most important sneakers of the 2010s in chronological order.

Whether you like them or not we all know the most influential of the decade was the 350s. I mean when literally everyone knows what they are.
@Quanic2000
4 жыл бұрын
Not really. My non-sneaker head friends know of them as "ugly sock shoes". The Nike flyknits are more influential as the knit technology inspired the prime knit used on Yeezys. The same with boost as it's the technology used in the sole of the 350's.

Quan Nguyen nah bro yeezys ruled the 2010s. The way they became universally known by literally anyone. From 5 year old to 70 year olds.
@Quanic2000

@@conormackey204 ugh no. I work with a 60 year old nurse who wore Turtledoves as her work shoes, stepping on shit and piss, not knowing what they are. Non-sneakeheads have no clue, or care about Yeezys. But in the early parts of the decade everyone wore Nike Roshe's because they were comfortable, available, and affordable. Kanye even wanted to work on the Roshe model before Nike broke off their deal. As a matter of fact when the 350's came out they were considered Adidas answer to the Roshes. So to say the 350 ruled the decade you either have a recency bias and/or are a hypebeast with no awareness of sneaker history.

They talk a little bit about the Red October’s in Hypebeast’s The Hype Report Podcast for sneakers of the decade. Honestly though, they were really only hot for 2-3 years until the adidas Yeezy line started. Can’t even really credit the Yeezy 2 for being the first Nike shoe with an entertainer since the Yeezy 1 came out in 2009. Other than the surprise release of the Red October’s, it didn’t do too much to shape sneakers throughout the 2010s.
Honarable mentions: Nike Air Yeezy 2 red October (should be on list) Travis Scott Air Jordan 1 (should be on list) Air Jordan 11 concord (should be on list) Nike Air Max 97/1 Sean Wotherspoon Nike Sb Diamond Supply (yellow) Nike LDwaffle sacai Adidas Yeezy 750 Adidas Yeezy 700 wave runner Adidas NMD Pharrell Williams human race (OG Yellow) Better list than complex for sure. Mentioning sneakers like the triple soles, roshe run, and ultraboost proved you guys did some real thinking and tried to be a fair with the list as possible, some stuff I’d switch out for sure like the flyknits and futurecraft 4D (4D was as impactful as Nike adapt technology, hot for a month and forgotten) and move some spots around like triple soles being #1, but other than that good list best list I’ve seen as far as best in the decade.

Cereal Eater yes, but this is aimed for the last decade 2010-2019, although vans oldskools, Chuck Taylors, Nike AF1, and adidas superstar/ stan smiths are very iconic and I feel essential to everyone’s sneaker collection, these shoes have been around for decades already, 70s and 80s. so can’t really include these on this list.

Roshe and flyknits walked so 350s could sprint.
