Nigeria also presently has 37 billion barrels of oil and hopes to increase it to 50 billion in the short to medium term. Nigeria also has 42 billion barrels of bitumen (tar sands) as well as substantial oil and gas shale sands (kerogen). Nigeria also hopes to construct the 3000 MW Mambilla power project which will make the project the biggest of its kind in West Africa.
