    I loved this. Also, you'll never know what this video gave me! My 14yo son came and sat with me while I was watching this. He ended up leaning into me, and we cuddled while watching this and talking about our favorite children's books. I rarely get these moments with him anymore.

    Van Allsburg ♥️ I agree the I love the pencil & charcoal more than the colored illustration by him. Potter♥️ Gorey♥️ Sendak♥️ Little Bear Books are some of our favorites! Beskow♥️♥️♥️ she was my oldest daughter’s second favorite illustrator! She’s magical. Wood’s Napping House & The Little Mouse,The Red Ripe Strawberry, & The Big Hungry Bear are still favorites to this day ♥️ Great list!!

    Two of my favorites are Tuesday written and illustrated by David Wiesner and Bamboozled written and illustrated by David Legge. I love your “picture book” videos. I also appreciate your review vocabulary. You’ve helped me look at these books in such a new way. I used to own hundreds of picture books, but I retired from teaching and kept only a few (hundred). 🥰

    Such lovely books, Flotsam looks wonderful, the colours reminds me a bit of Stephen Biesty's works a little. Recently, I've been obsessed with the works of Anne and Janet Grahame Johnstone, especially their works for Greek Mythology! I tried to find a copy, but sadly, they are incredibly rare and have yet to even see a battered copy on ebay! If you happen to find some copies, please shared them in your future video! :)

    Thank you for this list. Some books here are new to me, with lovely illustrations. May I recommend my own favourite, The Mousehole Cat, written by Antonia Barber and illustrated by Nicola Bayley, a moving story as well as great illustrations. Nicola Bayley also illustrated Katje the Windmill Cat by Gretchen Woelfle, which is also nice, and has lots of side-illustrations in the style of Delft blue tiles.

    It's weird KZread suggested this video but I'm glad I watched it. I have all of those books. Recently I bought a large selection of children's books (100's) with the intent to cut them up to use in junk journals. This gives me pause.

    Thanks for sharing this, Beatrix Potter was one of my all time favourites too, along with Richard Scarry, as well as the Ladybird books which I loved as a kid! I'm currently in the process of writing and illustrating my first children's book, something I've always wanted to do since I was a child who loved these books myself! :)

    I remember Sendak said in an interview that he was haunted by having seen a photo of Lindbergh’s baby’s corpse in the newspaper when he was a kid. That memory was an inspiration for Outside Over There-he said something along the lines of kids needing an outlet to talk about scary things.

    I have to suggest a few! Any books by Dean Morrissey-the color, the details! Once There Was a Tree, beautiful & detailed illustrations by Gennedy Spirin, The Cow That Wouldn't Come Down by Paul Johnson-soft colors, whimsy, expressive, Leave Me Alone! by Vera Brosgol-colorful, funny, detailed. Heh, it's so easy to go on and on.

    I loved the style of the first illustrator, Van Allsburg. Myself I love the French illustrator Rebecca Dautremer. She has a very unique and beautiful style. Do you know her?

    Very well done Shelly, I think you would really enjoy a visit to the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Massachusetts. What setup do you use to shoot the overhead video of page turns?

    Thank you, Michael! I’ll love to visit the Eric Carle Museum. I really need to do an art road trip. The Marriage Portrait of Lucrezia, Duchess of Ferrera is in Raleigh, NC. Two places I’d love to see. I use a tripod that can be manipulated to a 90 degree angle. Why do you ask?

    @@Shellyish Oh, I forget, I think you use a real camera to film rather than an iPhone like so many others. It’s so clean and clear with no shaking from above, just nice and seamless.

    I saw a tag today on the @bibliosophie channel and I thought “Hey. Shelly might like to do this tag, since she appreciates the artwork of books.” It is the Judging Books By Their Covers Tag. Show your books that have the… 1. Best color combination on the cover 2. Best typography on the cover 3. Best simple cover 4. Best end pages 5. Best map 6. Best naked hardcover (no dust jacket) 7. Best back cover 8. Best chapter headers 9. Best spine 10. Best drawings The tag is and old one that has just recently been revived, so please pardon my assumption that you have not encountered it.

    What do you guys feel about Dr.Seuss illustrations I never read any or at least don't remember reading any as a child but now when I look at them they creep me out so much. If it creeps out 20 year old me I can only imagine the horror it would have caused if i had read it when I was a todler. I also found things like dragon ball-z and harry potter scary but as an adult I loved Harry Potter. (I still find dr. seuss' the cat in the hat scary as hell!) I also always had a dread about death as a child. Anyone here who relates to any of this? Your thoughts will be much appreciated!
