The #1 Skill YOU NEED For Animation Today..

I'm going to show you one of the BEST principles of animation. This principle elevated my animations tenfold once I understood the power of the technique and also when, and, how to apply it to my own work.
The principle I'm talking about is Anticipation or Antics as it's known in the industry. It’s one of the 12 core principles of animation and to better understand this, I've demonstrated two different scenarios in this video so you can see the difference.
We will follow this up with another example showing how crucial anticipation is to mastering motion and why it is the guiding force behind almost all main actions!
Following this, I show you when not to use anticipation. Essentially, if it isn't 'Animated' or 'Alive' then it isn't necessarily required.
To finish up, we will break down a scene from Sony Animation's 'Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse' to drive home the lessons learned in the video!

What’s so amazing about your Blender tutorials is that you explain things quickly with such laser sharp focus, but also do it in a way that is engaging and entertaining. It’s refreshing. I see so many blender tutorials that are either way too slow, requiring you to watch their 45 min video at 2x speed so as to not fall asleep, or go way too fast, where you wonder if the person is just wanting to show off their blender skills, rather than educate the viewer. You seem to magically achieve the perfect balance in your videos. Keep it up!!!

I agree, but at the same time those longer tutorials also solve many issues which we may face while working. So both kinds of tutorials have their own use cases

I'm so glad i found this channel! It's the perfect length, easy to just skip to the correct part because you split up your videos in separate sections, and your voice is so nice to listen to. I've been using blender for many years and this channel has sparked so much more inspiration :D

I had a feeling that this video, as handy as it was, was going to give answers to the two questions I didn't have (WHAT is Anticipation and WHEN do you use it?...) and not give an answer to the one question I did have... HOW do you implement these techniques? Like, HOW specifically, in Blender?... I guess I did see something about "shape keys". This is usually what happens in these types of videos. A certain technique is described but there's no technical explanation or literal steps given on how to use something like shape keys or whatever other methods could be implemented to obtain the technique being described. So, I guess I'm wondering what video I need to be looking for?

I think it’s easy to implement the principle on a cube or ball, but much harder with a character because anticipation in one muscle group should affect other groups. I just finished a short film with human characters and I realize my animation is the weakest part, but I’d love for people to check it out and let me know what they think ❤

@@Smeaf Oh I guess you're probably still trying to reach that 4000 watch hours, because it looks like you have the subscribers. I would probably recommend making a couple of good long form content that people spend dozens of minutes watching on average. I've started to enjoy watching people just make something or speed modeling on Blender so that I can learn even more. You could even do a room setup as well as a Blender preferences setup that can run up the time. Is your SkillShare course out yet? I wanted to reach out to you though because I like your clay influence on some of your videos! I'm going to be making a large set of VR multiplayer mini games with a clay art style that is cool and interesting for my KZread channel while always being family friendly like my mini games.

0:55 "there's only 3 keyframes in this animation" Maybe in the MOVEMENT, but you've squash and stretched this as well, which was not talked about at all THAT is what sells the anticipation/movement in this footage. IMO, The way you phrased this is a bit disingenuious.
