Fantastic spiel Bethany. It's like Keats says, beauty is truth, truth is beauty, that is all ye need know... And a thing of beauty is a joy forever. When we allow what we show externally to reveal the truth of our inner selves, then beauty will be achieved. The problem is, so many of us confuse beauty with trendiness, attractiveness, or just looking good for someone else's sake. I imagine in your course you must talk about how finding your own personal style is about much more than just the clothes you put on your body.

Bethany. Thank you. Now, that I honor myself more in my clothing, I get more looks from people. I do not try to. I am just honoring myself and the life given to me. On elevators, some women actually slowly look me up and down. I keep looking straight ahead, but such behavior is incredibly rude. But, I will continue to find myself. Because of the lockdowns, I think that people are expecting each other to dress in lockdown or prison like style. I will not. And if you dress like you are happy and still find beauty in life and in dressing, people are startled.

I'm so happy to hear this. Since age 13 people mocked me for my blue eye pencil. I LOVED it. So much that I was able to subtly use it the day of my wedding too (I did my make-up). The blue represents part of my style. I feel great in it. it's like part of my eyes. So I let them mock me and didn't care. Then came my beloved pink legwarmer. Handmade. And no, it wasn't the 80's :) I used them so much that I have at least 50 photos around the world wearing them. People mocking and all. But they became SO me that even those who previously mocked me started to identify me (or my style anyway) with the pink legwarmers. At some point, if I'm not wearing them in pictures people get worried that I got rid of them :) ... NEVER! For the rest, I know what I like but I was too lazy to pull off a nice outfit. And when I do, everyone says that I have style. Weird for someone who mostly dresses in trainers. But when I want to rock something, I do it. Because this is who I am, messy... a mix of different styles, but they became ME. So I totally agree with everything said in the video. I'm even thinking about putting a note in my testament saying that I want to be buried wearing my pink legwarmer and a touch of blue eye pencil :D

I agree with u so bad, the most important thing in any outfit is to explain you resembles and feature you even if it doesn't match the place cause you don't have to fit in at all just something that feels right when you wear it. Even if everybody else told you that maybe a blazer on this looks better or this color or this shoe if it doesn't feel okay and calming when you where it and didn't feel confident and you don't wear it even for change..🤍

Thank you for sharing amazing tips. I love my own style.But when people around me complain about my outfit, I feel so uncomfortable and feel bad about myself and lose confidence. Why do they do that? I think it's so rude.

this direction is what i encourage my interior design clients to do. they're always the first to ask about trends, which i explain, and then i also explain why not to follow trends. we discuss adjectives & lifestyle to discover what is relevant to the individual.

When I was a teenager, I constantly felt the urge to dress in ruffles and tulle and all things feminine, but at the time, that wasn't considered cool at all, so I suppressed the urge and pretended to be a tomboy like everyone else. I still feel an inexplicable sense of clumsiness when I pick up a pretty handbag, but this time, I do it anyway. It's so true that it's really hard to own up to who you really are inside.

Your points are not rants meny fall videos at the moment are you should not be wearing this or that """""" if you want to be on trend""""" Which can be disheartening for someone who has found or saved to purchase something that just brings them joy my monto to myself is that I can't take it when I'm gone I am going to wear it now and rocket because what I have acquired brings me joy each time I put them on regardless weather its on trend or current, I had found my ascetic from quite a young age I greatly admired the 1930,40 50 60 but the more tailored classic very feminine looks I know what suits my frame but I will admit that monochromatic is my go to I just love the that one colour look from top to bottom I feel even more put together when it just comes together as I envisaged in my mind. I live your content and you have reinforced what I have been thinking when I whach content that tells you put this away or buy this when at the end of the day one size dose not fit all. My major dilemma is how do I figure what my personal style is when all I have done for a lifetime is buy clothes that look great on other models, online, in pictures, in magazines, on social media, etc? For example, I love your style and they way you look - always polished and chic. I would love to look like you, but is that finding my own true style? All I know is looking at others and wanting to look like them in that outfit and consequently buying that outfit. How do I get away from that?

Love this one! Small question: could you please link (or take a more zoomed in photo) of the books on your desk? I've been trying to look them up to buy, but I can't get my laptop to let me clearly see titles and authors! Thank you! I do feel as though we grow into a more genuine self as we age, especially once we start to realize that the influences of our peers or parents from our youth aren't quite as all-important as we thought. I'll dress in outfits now that I am completely happy with, with no care as to how strangers may view me, and that would have never happened a few years ago. Last thing: love the High Point market! Hi, I love your videos, its really interesting, I just wanted you to know that Pablo Picasso wasn't maybe the best example I think for your idea, a lot of testimonies from that time are saying he was constantly using his "friends" like Georges Braque to stole their ideas. He was mostly interested in success and selling his pieces, I have read a book about him and even when he painted Guernica, it was because he knew it would had an impact (before that work, most of his work are not politically engaged). So maybe he didn't know instagram but he was doing what would sell after all he is one of the most productive artist in history.

I do know better and I don't mind taking the hit because I love my hair longer. It's important to not change what you love just because of some styling tips. They are just guidelines.

@@bethanyleonardo well said. I have alopecia and my hair is not the greatest but I don't let it beat me. My hair is long as long as it can be and I'm also short. Not even true that long hair always shortens people. it all depends on the proportions of the person. If you see my full-frame photo with super long hair without any background reference, you'd say I'm super tall. Well, I'm definitely not. Proportions are everything, but even better, do what makes you feel great no matter what is everything :)
