Have you ever wondered how to get those smoky blues sounds that you hear in classic movies?
Particularly when the movie cuts to a scene in a bar, it's late at night and people are hanging out listening to a blues band, and then all the sudden the band kicks into an AWESOME slow blues.
When it comes to playing a slow blues this pattern I am going to show you in today's video is a must-know for every blues guitarist.
It comes straight out of the T-Bone Walker school of blues guitar.
In this video you'll learn how to play "Stormy Monday" as recorded by the Allman Brothers from the Live At Fillmore East album on guitar.
You'll learn:
-T-Bone Walker's favorite chord shape
-How to use sliding triads for a classic blues rhythm sound
-How to change just a few chords from a simple 12-bar blues and really spice it up

Stormy Monday 🎤Lyrics:
They call it stormy Monday
But Tuesday's just as bad
They call it stormy Monday
But Tuesday's just as bad
Lord, and Wednesday's worse
And Thursday's all so bad
The eagle flies on Friday
Saturday I go out to play
The eagle flies on Friday
Saturday I go out to play
Sunday I go to church, yeah
Gonna kneel down and pray
Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy on me
Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy on me
Though I'm tryin' and tryin' to find my baby
Won't somebody please send 'er home
Oh ho
Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy on me
Yeah, I'm proud, Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy on me
Though I'm tryin', tryin' to find my baby
Won't send 'er home, yeah, oh baby

Very, very well done, Jon. The D11 chord is so often played and taught as Aminor7 (Am7), but you can clearly hear the bass (Berry Oakley) going back and forth from the D root to the V note (A) below, then to the D# (Eb) note against the band playing Cm7. I saw the original ABB play it, and I know you are correct. Their version of “Stormy Monday” has been the standard for over 50 years now. T-Bone and Bobby Blue Bland set the bar high but The Allman Brothers Band topped it. Outstanding tutorial!

Once again JonMacLennan demonstates excellence in teaching. I have played for about 4-5 months, have taken his first 2 courses. It's hard to believe that in several hours I have learned ther esentials of Stormy Monday. He is very clear and the camera work is excellent.

Nice job....my favorite band.... I'm old enough to have seen them three times with Duane, Berry, Dickie, Greg, Butch and Jaimo way back in 1970 and 1971..... Duane and Dickie taught me everything I know about playing the guitar.....self taught... listening to the Live at the Fillmore East album....no KZread back then

I would love for you to do a lesson of it hurts me too - john mayall & the bluesbreakers.
