People can save even more if they drop live TV. You could get on demand TV services for between $35 and $50 a month. If you don’t watch much live TV, it can be a good option or you can just cut out the expensive sports packages and still watch live TV. The whole point of cutting cable is to save money and if you’re spending more on streaming TV than you did on cable, switching isn’t worth it. Watch your viewing and your spending habits.

We just bought a house and I’m cutting wherever I can. We just got fios internet for 85 per month (1gb up and down) and Hulu (55 for 3 mos then 65). I have had KZread premium for a long time so I’m keeping that at 17 a month. With fios, The router and extender are included free. In fact it was more expensive to go down to the next plan of 400 mbps because router was not included. I tried KZread tv, but with a surround sound setup, the sound was not good- didn’t even support 5.1. Hulu sounds much better and has a very clear picture. We got all of the channels we were looking for except one. And the only premium channel we might pay for during a specific show is hbo for 15 and since my sisters’ families want to watch it as well, we will split that cost. We will see how it works out long term! Fios tv is just too expensive to get the channels you want. Xfinity pricing is better but it goes up and it’s under contract. It also only has fast download speeds. Crossing my fingers!

The biggest plus for me ditching Direct tv was the capability to decide for myself what channels/services I use. The tv delivery services business model of collecting money to add channels to their packages has never matched my needs. At least with streaming you have options and can manage your expense. The TV service model is dying because people no longer want to pay for 15 shopping channels or music channels or ..... at least I am in control and to me that is the biggest advantage to streaming

In some cases, especially with the rise in the cost of "streaming" services, you are right. When I first got into the streaming game, I was paying $30-$35 a month for a good streaming service. All those services have gone way up now. Some doubled. I have used Philo at about $20 a month just to compliment my local network channels that I get with an antenna. If people are not going to start using an antenna for local channels after they drop cable...then they should just keep cable....in my opinion.

The problem with your math is that most people have Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, etc... when they have cable. So their price with cable would actually be your $100 PLUS the price of the above services you listed. When I dropped Comcast and kept internet I picked up Philo plus an antenna for locals. My net savings per month was $95. During football and basketball season I picked up Sling Orange with the sports pack and lifestyle pack (Hallmark for the wife). My savings at that point was still $70/month. At the end of March when basketball season is over I will drop Sling and go back to Philo until Labor Day when football returns. The savings are real for many people when they drop cable. I don’t include Netflix, Hulu, or Disney + because I was already paying for those when I had Comcast cable tv.

Overall, I think we are close to what we were paying even with the YT YV increases. The move was not to save money but add convenience. We can enjoy our content on more than on TVs... computers, phones, tablets and as easily when not home. The cloud DVR feature of YT TV is infinitely better than local storage on a satellite TV service. There are two of us and it works well for us. I was told for tier one internet which is 25 mb/s the included cap will be around a 1.2 tb data limit per month and then billed per gigabyte after that. Hard to say since it varies by region. Where I live there's only one choice, but some places have the option of from a cable company (Comcast) or major phone company (AT&T). If there's a choice ask neighbors on Nextdoor or Facebook which performs best for a good price

I have Roku and KZread Red. All I pay is 12.83 for KZread Red and 59.00 for internet. I’m not a TV couch potato and this is all I need.

I love youtube tv because unlimited dvr. I have Hulu for 1.99 for a year, then Disney plus with Verizon for 6.99, and then Netflix for 13. So my total is 87 bucks. What you forgot to mention is some internet service providers charge for more data. So make sure to check that before cutting the cord.

@@dennyhiett6271 so its 80 bucks. But then if you go over its either an addition 10 for each 50GB overage. Or 30 for extra 500GB or 50 for unlimited. I was able to get me back down by downgrading all my video streams/netflix to lower quality.

Although KZread TV ends up being the same $$$ as base cable. your cable is worthless unless you pay for the DVR service and boxes which the DVR is included with YTTV. Unlike cable, you can share YTTV with other local single person households as you get three simultaneous streams. Most of us split and share the other streaming services too.

Very helpful, I think I'm going to look into a DVR box for recording Antenna channels possibly a modem Best buy I'm savey. Good know about price hikes some I saving alot of money some people say they are paying more for new movies stuff like that. Just spent 2 hours to lower my bill about $70 because I wanted to do a little more research 1st have to call AT&T about every 2 months 4 hidden fees price hikes. I signed a two-year contract within two months my bill went up at least $50 less a little over a year had to get rid of home phone and lower my TV package just to get close to the original agreement that only I have to honor. Worried about everybody cutting cable and internet and streaming services doing the same thing. If the cable company would just stick with the original agreement they would have way more customers and it would be easier for everyone to make their own decisions without worrying about empowering these companies and price hikes. Internet and TV should not be as much as a car payment though. I guess I need to carefully research who I get my internet through cuz it sounds like I should not keep it from my TV provider!!! All good advice though thanks!!!

Every time I’ve spoken with an Xfinity representative, they tell me how much they appreciate my being a valued customer. When I told them I’m moving on to something else, they said fine, but don’t forget about the $210.00 for breaking the contract. I figured I’ve donated about $30,000 to them over time for the 8 channels I watch. Of course I’ll never pay the $210. I’m 68, and a little blemish on my credit report is fine. Sometimes one has to have principals.

@@calm1047 Depending upon which representative you get, when you can get one, these “great” deals that they offer can vary greatly. Contracts are usually put in place because the customer is getting something special, and they want some assurance that the customer will stick to such a wonderful deal. If the deal is that wonderful, they wouldn’t need this contract. It just got to the point where it wasn’t worth the $$ for the same few channels I was watching.

This is good, but the other side of the coin I never see is people always add the extra streaming services into a cord cutters budget. Are you saying no one who has cable doesn't subscribe to Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, HBO Max etc? I'm sure many do, and those costs would have to be added to the cable tv'ers total monthly budget (including those crazy cable fees).

I have been paying for Dish Network. Out of the monthly fees, I pay $43 above the cost of the channels package: $12 for local channels, $15 rental for the Hopper receiver, $7 ea. x 2 for the Joey receivers that are required on any other tv you want service too. Then theres $2 in taxes. This $43.00 per month additional fees are the same regardless of the size package I choose. I'm switching to streaming and the $43 goes away.

I have tried almost all streaming services and I currently use Philo which has built in recording capabilities for only $20 a month, period. That is the amount of the bill each month. No local channels but I have an HD digital antenna that I’m able to get local channels on when I want to watch news, etc.

Just cut Xfinity yesterday after cable+internet exceeded $250/mo. Went with YTTV + Netflix + Apple + Peacock (I like to watch Dan Patrick). We have Prime but I have it because I shop almost exclusively online. We dip in and out of Disney+ to watch specific things. Savings is right at $1000/yr with 2023 Xfinity increases. Stayed with cable too long because it was convenient.
