The 1 CHERRY TOMATO You Have to Grow!

What's the best-tasting and most productive cherry tomato variety that you can grow in the backyard garden? Our favorite is a variety called Toronjina that produces loads of delicious orange cherry tomatoes that have a citrusy kick. We grew three plants of these last year and were very impressed!
Join us as we plant some cherry tomato plants in our raised bed garden and add a few marigolds for companion planting. We'll also be finding a spot for a tray of flower transplants that need to go in the ground. These include some giant sunflowers and multiple varieties of zinnias.

Holy cow they need to call those High Roller Tomato Cages. Having them fold up doesn't justify 80% more expensive in my book. For the same $ you can buy 4 cattle panels, a pair of bolt cutters, and a role of bailing wire for the same price and have 12 lifetime cages instead of 5. Panels cut into 1/3rds, bend them into a circle and secure with bailing wire and have a pair of bolt cutters for future use, if you already have bolt cutters and bailing wire you can have 15 lifetime cages for the same price. The ONLY thing you can't do is fold them up.

Hey apparently you plant to suppress bug pressure. Have you thought about growing some Amaranth? It is a trap crop. Bugs will eat it instead of your garden. Plant it some distance away from your garden(20 feet). It will often still produce seed even though bugs have eaten all the leaves. You can pop amaranth like popcorn. It is good to eat. You can grind it into flour. You can eat it like sesame seeds.

I do a 2-2-4-4-6-6-8 method. On day1 I water then set out my trays in morning light for 2 hours. Day 2 I set them out in afternoon light for 2 hours then bottom water in compost tea or liquid fertilizer... if they're good day 3 then I repeat the process with four hours. If not I repeat the 2 days at 2 hours. Typically buy day 6 they're putting on new growth. I transplant out when they can stay the night outside without stress. It normally takes a week... I always transplant at last light 7:30ish PM. That gives them all night to get used to their new home. I just put out a tray of spinach plants last night and today they stood up to a beating of a rainstorm. But I really struggled for a long time to learn this method. An old-timer, Bob, helped me figure it all out. Best of luck.

During the growing season we have a large influx of tourism. That is our bread and butter. We have a local that is buying produce from southern states and telling customers that he grew it. He is a reseller. They love him cuz he has product much sooner than can be grown but, general population doesn't understand. He comes in early, claimes it's his and underselling. I bust my but to grow the best I can as early as I can any yet he seems to hold the market . Any suggestions?

It is a problem in my area also. I am not a seller but last year I had terrible critter problems and didn't get the harvest I normally do. Went to my local farm stand and ordered plum tomatoes and was totally shocked to see they had been ordered in. When I questioned the owner he said he can buy them cheaper than he can grow them. The give away was they were to uniform and the taste was not there. I will not do that again. Will make do with what I can grow or do without.
