Kim clearly got all four of those clues in round three on day two. And as you can see, she built the bank up to 900 dollars before finally solving the puzzle. Afterwards it showed they had 1125 dollars on their total, but according to logic, that can't be the amount they won, because to pick up 900 to win that amount, they would have to have only had 225 before solving, which is impossible after getting four clues that are worth 100 dollars. 1125 had to be what they had before she solved, plus the 900 in the bank, would have been 2025. The challengers had 100, and to get four 100 dollar clues and end up with 1125, you know they had to have had 725 on their total before that puzzle. Jim said "that last puzzle," so I guess there's an equal chance it could have been a fourth one they had time for, as well as the possibility and more likelihood that it was the ordinary third puzzle.

@benquicks You'd be surprised that this was not the first game show to offer $1M. The Bullseye pilot in 1979 had a concept of if a contestant were to spin the windows ten times in a row without hitting lightning, then the contestant would win over $1M. The show aired a year later with no $1M bonus round. In 1980, the Joker's Wild gave away $1M during their tournament, however the winner only got $500K--1/2 to charity, 1/2 to contestant. The $1M was a tournament purse spread among the 11 people.

@nextbarker I really hate to dispel this claim. There is another game show, The Chair, that had fireworks (which was to raise the contestant's heart rate). So, this was not the only that show that had them.

@@andrewschroy6368 You know, that’s what I always thought, too, and it could still be true, however, Game Show Island recently uploaded a copy of the Rutenbars’ win, and the date that’s on it, February 12, 1986, tells a different story, that the Fosters (Andrea and Michael) were first. Their win aired on February 3, 1986. Again, I’m not 100% certain, because the upload of it on Nick Casiano’s Game Show Retro channel says January 1986, stating your hunch to be true. I don’t know what to think, really, but I do know that both can’t be true. One of them has to be a mistake.

It must've gotten too hot with all the fireworks going off. Poor Jim Lange. Well, you know they say: If you can't stand the heat, get outta the kitchen (or the stage at the now CW network affiliated KTLA Channel 5's Sunset Bronson Studios, for that matter).
