Master Thatcher David Wood makes the rolls for the ridge and fixes them in place. This will form support the ridge covering.

How long does a new roof last before redoing ?

The ridge is redone every 10 years. The main part of the roof last about forty years before it needs attention.

What's the gauge on lathes,does it differ on a re-cover, not new roof

We were re-instating a roof so we had new fireproofing and lathes as a matter of course. The lathes are 1.5 inches wide by 1inch depth. Thatching could be carried out on existing lathes as long as the roof construction meets modern building regulations.
