Thank you!! I was told this was a yarn under that I recently started trying on my new amigurumi project (I'm very new to crochet so I've been sticking to those beginner kits so far), but I had no idea it was called a cross stitch!
to be honest, i prefer the messy stitch look!! it makes everything look super handmade and just adds to a certain vibe

I haven't done any amigurumi just yet, but this explains why sometimes my stiches are odd or uneven because I didn't realize that the way you grab the yarn would change the stitch, so good to know. 😅
Wow! The fact that something so simple makes such a huge difference! Thank you!

Glad to hear it!
It also called Yarn under instead of yarning over
I heard that yarning under, instead of over kept the stitches tighter, but it's good to see a comparison in action.
I’ve heard others mention that yarn under might be better for Amigurumi. I’m new and learned with yarn over but will try this on my next one.
Definitely a youtube gem of information! Thank you from a brand new crocheter. I was just trying to pull loops of consistant size. Happy for uniformity of any kind. But now i know one of the elusive secrets of the masters... Levelled up just now! Thank you!

Try doing your normal stitch then at the end turn it inside out. There are instruction videos on this technique.
Ohhhh I've just been doing whatever holds onto the thread easier 😅 I wrap it from under before pulling back through and over the top when I pull through again because it's more sturdy on the hook

So instead of doing YO (Yarn Over), you just do YU (Yarn Under). Idk if it’s different terminology or not. UK versus US terms. Lol.
This is how I learned/taught myself to do amigurumi! It makes a gigantic difference and doesn't take any extra effort.
Just saw your video and I must say thank you! It works fine! My brain wants to crochet the old way, but I'll will practice it.
Amazing, right to the point and great simple tip, thank you so much!

Thanks for this cool tip
Oh this is how I naturally grab the yarn, I didn’t know it was a thing!
i do this for decreases because it's the only way i can make them tight and neat but i never thought to do it for all the stitches. it makes so much sense! thanks for the tip!
I just gave this a try and it's a game changer! I'm just starting out in crochet, but my stitches look great now.
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCHH!!!! I’m a cross stitcher and when i saw people crocheting amigurumis looking like fluffy 3D cross stitch plushies, I immediately bought a crochet kit! However, mine was turning out like the left side and i kept thinking maybe my tension is all over the place! However, after doing this way I’m finally getting the stitches i initially started crochet for!! Thank you again& ❤🎉

Is it better to go yarn under twice. I noticed that you go yarn under then yarn over. Is yarn under, then yarn under for the single crochet better?
Thank you
Thanks for Sharing
That's actually the half cross stitch! The true cross stitch is made by inserting, yarn under (hook on top), pulling through, yarn under (hook on top) and pulling through again to finish the stitch. Yours has yarn over (hook underneath the yarn) on the second yarn grab. I personally prefer the half cross stitch over the true x stitch, but it's a matter of preference 😊 If you're used to doing normal crochet for amigurumi, this will be a huge improvement! It changed the look of my creations incredibly for the better! ❤

You get a similar look when you knit with single stitches and then turn it inside out. Depending on the shape you are crocheting it also hides the little yarn end
I'm going to try this for sure
I always do my single crochet this way and have recently started doing alit of my other crochet stitches this way also, it looks so neat.

I used to crochet normally but i randomly picked up that habit from watching someone’s hook in a random tutorial😭 i just thought it was a weird and different way of hooking it and i decided to do it because why not. I had my suspicions that it made the stitches look different but i thought i was just imagining it 😭
