THAT'S NOT MEANT TO HAPPEN !
In todays video the tanker is feeling heavy and i think i know what the issue is... Big hint? Dont use road plainings around your track if it gets wet and muddy.
I have decided to invest in a Gas Leak Detector. Can't say it's any good yet but i seem to be doing things with slurry more and more often. So here is the link if you fancy getting one for your self. Could just help someone else out.

There are stories of one man going in the tank and then passing out from the gasses , then a second goes to save the first and the rescuer also is overtaken, so good on you for not going fully in.

That was a horrific story, feel so very sorry for their families.
You don't want to breath it but you don't mind wearing it? Another good honest video with nothing hidden. Its all there for us to see, muck, slurry, mud and mistakes, well done Tom, top man 👍
Staying out of the tanker was a good decision. Safety first because it can’t go second.

Yeah, those gases are nothing to fool around with. I find it always impressive in a bad way how often you hear of accidents around here where a farmer or someone at a factory during maintenance went into a tank or silo and things end bad. Sadly most of the times the firefighters do not only have to rescue one victim, but a second person who got in to try and get out the first person who passed out due to some sort of gas. And in many cases, we really talk about it taking half a minute or so, to get overwhelmed. On farms this often leaves whole families devastated, when the old farmer went in and the son goes after him to rescue him or vice versa. Most times this hits the media neither makes it out again. In some cases one survived just barely, but with permanent damage. Done properly in an industrial setup I have seen silos beeing emptied, ventilated in some way, either using a draft if you coud open top and bottom or using blowers. Carrying a multi gas meter than can sense a variety of gasses and give alarms if oxigen gets too low or if anything obnoxious (CO to name only one, but a lot of other stuff as well) is present in a dangerous concentration. When someone works in the tank, another person observes outside the tank, and sometimes I have seen something like harnesses used for fall protection used, not only to get in and out, but also to be able to pull someone out.
Great to see you are thinking about your safety!
Poor Joanne, you got her lol. I could smell this video, and the memories came flooding back. Great video for those that think farmers have the easy life. Thanks for the laugh. It was great remembering why I joined the military instead of working on the farm. Have fun and stay safe

@@jackduffy3170 maybe if you have ever worked on a farm or even visited one, you might understand, but since you think that food magically appears at your grocery store, you wouldn’t understand how just the very image of a slurry pit or a manure pile can bring back memories and trigger the senses. I suggest you get off of your computer, put down the phone, get out of your parents basement, visit a few farms and try living a little bit.

I wish we lived closer. I would love to send my boys over to volunteer at your farm so they could learn all of these farm support jobs, particularly the really nasty stuff. Most don’t realize the behind the scenes work that goes into that gallon of milk. Thank you for all you do and for sharing it with us.
Poor jo didn’t escape. I don’t think she was to impressed. Keep doing what your doing. Really enjoying your channel Tom. A true insight into real day to day farming life
I’ve been in the back of one at these a few of times…… (more than 20years ago mind) it did have a bigger opening and H&S wasn’t forefront in our minds in those days. What you notice is the weight you have been pulling and the amount of capacity you lost by not having it emptied! Beach sand from cow the cubicles was our issue. Well done!
Always safety first Tom, far to many farmers killed every year, it’s about time as an industry we started to change the way we think and work to make sure we are all here to fight another day, keep the message going mate 🙏🙏
Safety first, glad you didn't go inside the tanker. Miss seeing your dad can we see and hear from him soon?
In my youth I dug out a molex slurry tanker non vacuum with a top hatch, a bucket & coal shovel the tanker was full of sand, we beded the cows on soft sand, it is great to see you showing all the fun jobs I used to do in my youth
I give you such huge credit for being able to deal with the "muck". Tough job in todays Vlog but always good to keep your equipment in top condition when possible.

A face sheild, goggles and gloves are a must with those types of jobs. Eye infection can be a nasty experience. Take Care🙏
Enema, farm style… Glad you played it safe, Tom!! Your wife is an amazing woman! 👏🏻
And now you know how everyone who uses sand in cubicles feels 😂
Thanks Tom, You and the rest of your crew.. Be safe...
Tom, safety first - please wear eye protection when you’re doing jobs like that! You need to take better care of yourself because accidents can happen in the blink of an eye.

So glad you stayed out of the tanker. Way too dangerous. I was concerned when you were cleaning out that slurry pit some weeks ago. In August there were three brothers in Ohio that died when they were overcome by fumes when cleaning their pit. I can’t imagine how tragic that was to that family. Please be safe Tom, We all care about you.
Oh Tom, that wasn't the best job in the world but what an outcome. Yes we all learn by our mistakes but thanks for sharing and possibly saving someone else from making that mistake. Top man.👍💚👍
Glad you were safe. Whenever going in or cleaning the tanker from the outside like you did, please make sure another person is always there with you to help if you collapse from the gas. Better safe.
Magic video, glad to see safety is observed don't want any injuries of any kind. Think the tank should be cleaned out more often, like every two or three uses, would save a lot of hassle.
Good Morning, Tom! What a mucky job! Someone’s gotta do it!! Great problem solving skills! What a great job to have done!Tom, thank you for the inspiration! We love your editing skills! Have a blessed week from farm girls in Kansas!
Best thing you can do with that tank is get a decent sized hole cut out near the front on whichever side suits. Then you can wash from the front. Yours Is only small, tandem axle 4000+ you have to get inside ☹️ I always strip it down at night and a quick swill of water around the top etc then it has all night to vent.
And THIS is why farmers and their children have such great immune systems! Loved the video but I am grateful that smell-ovision has not been invented yet. Love your videos Tom. Poor Joanne :(
I absolutely love this channel Tom Your dry sense of humor is the best mate
Another great video as always Tom always keep safe when cleaning the tanker out
Good to see the Mrs, hope she is doing a lot better. You know how to have a good time.
while you are getting a gas meter on amazon, also get a blower fan (doesn't need to be massive) to blow air into the confined space and push the trapped gasses out.
🤣 yes it did look like the tanker had a poop!! I must be a bit warped but your muck videos always give me a chuckle.
You will get a thumbs up, wish I could give a hundred of them after doing that job, it shows people the reality of what a farmer needs to do sometimes, somewhere, someplace, there is someone that have seen this video, and sends a thought into what they are eating next time and how hard work it is behind their food :)
Clearly I have never experienced a shitty day! I'm impressed you stuck to it. I bet you do it more often now. What a great worker you are.
Today I am thankful that KZread is not smell-o-vision. I grew up in the middle of dairy farms, so the memory of it is enough.
Very good demonstration of a job you don't want to do, and also putting safety first. Nice content
Life is one big learning curve, don't worry tom we have all been there, top job as always 🙂👌
Tom, perhaps you should have called the Jetters at Mersey Rod for that clog. I've seen them get through just about every messy job and they clean up well when done.
A good job done on tanker, well done in keeping yourself safe while doing that job
Been there, done that, got the Tee Shirt. We made a 12 ft long spade to get all the stones out, but didn't get it as clean as your new machine. Just one thing.. make sure you brush up all the stones off the concrete, as our concrete started to break apart after running tractors over the bits. Good decision not to go in the tank... Not even for a Gold Watch... Merry Xmas from N Wales.
Its good to show that farming is not all about driving computerised tractors. You do get mucky and its not always pleasant. Thanks Tom another informative show.
Great work Tom safely first with gases i someone who died going into a feed tank for his phone what a waste the owner packed up not long after that it just one hundred % of a accident you most probably hear about year ago keep up the good work 👏👏👍👍
Very satisfying video. I love deep cleaning. Kind of nice to get away from construction. It was amazing but I enjoy the farming as well.
It's great to see you both got over covid now and like you say danger never sleeps
One more thought on safety…I would’ve put blocks under the tanker wheels and moved the dribble bar slightly further away just to remove any risk of the tanker moving/being crushed
Hello from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. Thanks for sharing your great video’s please keep them coming.
What a mess, way up well. A farmers job is never done, it’s not all roses. Thanks for sharing the video. You show it all to us.
I only splashplate from the gritty tank for that exact reason. Your dribble bar by the way it's designed leaves nearly a ft of stuff in the tanker which is where the grit settles
Cool video thanks Tom
That is a lesson learned. And yes, it did look like your tanker was taking a poo.
Im so glad you didnt go in! My dad and uncle (separate times) both had gotten gassed in similar situations. Quite scary! It did look like the tanker took a dump! Glad for you thats in the past now and hopefully doesnt come up as a job to be done any time soon. God bless you and yours! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🐄🐄🐄🐄
Please get a portable gas detector for H2S/O2. They have special ones for the farming industry. You give me sweaty palms going into tanks and pits. And put some safety glasses on. Please.
Great video Tom. When we got our new tanker made. On the spec we decided to put a door on the side of the tanker so when we need to wash it out. We don’t have to remove dribble bar just open the door and open the gate valve at the back stick in ur volume washer. 10 minutes all it takes. The door cost €700 extra. Money well spent.
These things happen but you always find a way to solve it

Hi Tom, we have a curved bladed hoe on a telescopic pole which goes into our Gully suckers tank, through the outlet, just as you did, and we drag the stones out, never have to go into the tank, planned maintenance. It gets done every three months. 🤔👍

I bet there is some crap ends up in those gully suckers!
Good on you for not getting in with the gas risk, i work with dangerous gasses, abit of advice i mayby wouldnt get a monitor from amazon, we have to get outs calibrated every few months to make sure they stay accurate!!
I remember your video where they made the tankers they had made one where the whole back end opened.
Tom, think a subject like coming dined spaces/h2s etc should have it's own episode so people are aware of the real and deadly dangers. Facts figures and safety precautions etc. It would be ideal for young farmers etc
Love it, esp Tom up the creek without paddle
It's a few year back I admit, but the tankers we used to run all had fully opening hinged back doors, cleaning was a doddle, we often had to get in with steam cleaner, obviously opening & leaving to vent before entering & then we wore gas masks. I've often wondered how they cleaned them out when it's a sealed rear door, to us a hinged rear door was a necessity.
Thought I was watching an episode of Drain Addict for a second. Well done for not getting into the tanker definitely the right decision 🇬🇧👍

Love the " be you, be whom ever" ❤ love the videos
I looked at the little gloves you put on and laughed Tom - I was thinking more preg checking gloves would be a better option for this occasion - what a mess and poor Joanna, Thomas what were you thinking covering the wife in cow muck - not a winning decision
Today's video was educational Tom as well as enjoyable
Slow and steady does win the race, and there’s nothing wrong with being a steady eddy either as Phil would say!
Awesome awesome job tom even with the issues you faced.
Your in trouble with Jo 😂😂 Good job cleaning out the tank 👍
Job well done Tom, nice to see you putting safety first for all to see.Stay out of the bloody tank, and that goes for silo's too Accumulated Gas's Kill people every year somewhere. Your video will save lives thanks Tom. I can tell a funny story here a farmer was spreading liquid manure from a chicken farm, he realized nothing was coming out. So he went round the back of the Tanker and found a chicken stuck, he hadn't shut off the pressure when he pulled the chicken the slurry knocked him over and covered him with, well you know what. His wife made him strip in the barn and she hosed him down with cold water. That was back in the 70's the tankers were smaller then, lucky for him Ha!
Another fab video, great job with the tanker but any body els noticed the scratch dawn of rear tanker made from removing the dribble bar, oh dear, watching from aberystwyth 🏴
Have you considered taking the tank back for a minor refub and having them add an access port to the top so you can get light and easy access for washing it out?

Another fantastic video showing what farming is all about.. got to say when Tom said Manitou I actually heard man or two hahaha 🤣🤣 it took me a few moments to click on what he actually said (after I checked the video for a man or two) 🤣🤣
Awesome Mike Rowe impression Tom!
Good move on the tanker Tom. Confined spaces are no joke. A gas casualty often takes out the first responders too. You go down, ginger guy with a moustache goes in to get you, he goes down... etc.
I love your channel! I wish you would make longer videos.
Muck...nothing but muck...bet you are glad that you have got that job out of the way!!...Thanks for staying out of that tanker...wouldn't like to think of the consequences😬 Love to all your family...from Scotland😁
At least now you know how to resolve the issue if it were to happen again! Sometimes those hour jobs can really get out of hand.😂😂
What a job! Glad you didn’t climb in. Good decision and stayed safe. I enjoy even these “mucky” videos!
Credit to you for tackling that task. Wow I bet that smelt rank.
I actually shouted whoa! at the end there ,it’s 11:20 pm and my wife’s just shouted downstairs what’s up? Thanks Tom you green fingered master of disaster 👍🏼
So far so good 👍
Tom I use a long handled metal curved scraper for cleaning out the tanker and I don’t need water till the end to wash out the last bit
Probably fill with water then do a run with just water to flush it out fully through the pipes as well as the tank
Well! I learn so much I know it was a lot mess but to see that machine taken apart and then YOU put it ready for work again. GREAT Job well done . granny90

god blesses you big brother.
I have a small slurryspreader around 5000l and it has a little 3inch window in the front to see if it is full. Long story short, it cracked and blew around 100 l into the cab because the rear window was still open from driving on the street. Really no fun but the pressure washer fixed it with only the radio going out for half a day
It looked better after its wash and brush up and without you taking any unnecessary risks a good job 👏
it's a smellyvision dream...lol thank goodness we can't smell that stuff all the way here! Good lad, good job.
