ZUTOMAYO = BASS N' FUNK
After TWO years, I've come back to arrange a song from one of my favorite groups, ZUTOMAYO. I've really missed the funk, so I'm very happy I was able to finish this arrangement. It actually took around several months to complete it, as I scrapped and replaced ideas here and there to make the experience worth it.
A self-analysis of the arrangement:
0:02 Intro: Iconic bassline. Unlike most other arrangements, I included the "mute slap" as well.
0:16 Verse 1-a: Right hand plays chords below melody to create the rhythm of section. The accordion part was tricky to combine.
0:44 Verse 1-b: Chords & rhythm was emphasized by jumps, leading to a soft section giving a stark contrast before exploding into the chorus.
1:00 Chorus 1: Rhythm divided across both hands (syncopation) to give the driving force.
1:31 Verse 2-a: Complex combination of triplets over 16th-note-based bassline.
1:45 Verse 2-b: Variation of verse 1-b. Additional buildup to give an extra punch before the chorus.
2:00 PUNCH!
2:01 Chorus 2: Repetition of chorus 1 with small variations, intentionally to make the last chorus more impactful.
2:28 Bridge: Rather simple right hand with left hand maintaining the rhythm of the original song.
3:00 Chorus 3-a: Large chords for a strong impact of the last chorus, followed by staccato 16th notes for another drastic buildup to the finale.
3:16 Chorus 3-b: Beginning of the most powerful section of the arrangement. The brief Latin-American rhythm is distributed between both hands.
3:29 Chorus 3-c: The "go-crazy" section. Right hand plays melodies that resemble the original vocals but also original melodies.
3:43 Outro: Zipper sound imitated by arpeggio.
This is definitely not an easy arrangement to play, the jumps and chords are very tricky at some places so be aware! (not to mention the 16th notes everywhere at this tempo)
