Frollo is one of the most self righteous and evil villains in Disney . There is a bit of this song in their "ACA Top 10 Disney Villains" and people have been requesting a full version for years. Great reaction and when you got it priceless.

Was here for the premier! As a fun fact, I enjoyed both church choir and Latin myself growing up. The word vulgar now has a derogatory meaning to it, which is well used here, but the root of the word is in Latin "vulgus", meaning "the common people" or "the masses." Nowadays, "vulgar has both a meaning of "lacking sophistication" and "a reference to explicit or bodily functions." Keep in mind, that Esmerelda never intentionally tempted men. She was a Romani street performer & dancer who just happened to also be beautiful. I'm so glad you enjoyed this!

Esmerelda never intended to tempt Frollo, but if he couldn't have her, he would burn her as a witch. Not what I'd call a godly man.

The word "vulgar" gained its negative connotations because the pretentiously self-important upper class did not want anything to do with anything that hoi polloi might possibly have access to, and so they deemed anything that was "vulgar" or "common" to be beneath their dignity. The twist is that they actually kind of sort of had a point, because literacy rates were so abysmal at the time, that most of the people had essentially no knowledge of anything they hadn't personally experienced, which was further limited by the way society was structured, which effectively prevented most people from ever traveling more than a few miles from their homes. Nonetheless, the attitudes of that period do not fare well in a modern setting.

It's a Disney villain song from the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Layne (beatboxer) has a range near to Geoff. J None, between Layne and Geoff, is now listed as a bass in the US Navy. Keep your eyes open for Cesar's air guitar. Eli is Rock God tenor 1. Geoff's highest note was in Peaches (a mini of SuperMario Brothers) and he hit Bb5. In honor of Halloween - try In The Hall Of The Mountain King (Edvard Grieg 1875) complete with trolls and cauldron, and Hide and Seek was also one from last Halloween. Geoff has 4 solos that work for Halloween - Monster Mash, The Headless Horseman, Ghost Riders in the Sky, and Jack's Lament.

Layne, beatboxer, actually has the largest voice range of the group if you count sound effects. He hit A0 as an inhale note in SH-Boom, which I think now ties Geoff, and C#6 in ACA Disney Villains. Not only that, but the other 3 can sing bass too. J None is singing as a base for the Navy choir. They are all just phenomenal but Geoff’s low bass is in a class by itself.

Regarding the names: In almost every of their videos you'll find the names of all who were involved in the production of the current video - including themselves. So you can lookup their names just there. There it's also mentioned who did the arrangement ... in this case Layne Stein, the beatboxer. In the description you would have even found that the song is from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Nevertheless you've made a good reaction.

Great reaction. Something some reactors do, is listen to the song all the way through, then listen again and pause and make comments. I've seen one do it the other way around too. Maybe you should try that, because it is HELLA (heh) is easy to miss stuff in one viewing in a Voiceplay vid. Great to see you leave the captions on, it's not uncommon for VP to have funny little notes in them.

Yes. This is from Hunchback of Notre Dame. This is the entirety as it is in the movie. The Latin is in the original because he is a Minister/judge. The speaking is where it is in the movie. Left to right.... Layne Stein - beatboxer, baritone, arrangements. J None - guest, baritone, former member. Geoff Castellucci - bass, arrangements. Eli (like jelly) Jacobson - tenor, rock tenor, lighting. Cesar De La Rosa - baritone, tenor.

@@VikingReacts This was the one Disney Movie that was made for adults not kids because of the violence. Layne can only sing lower than Geoff if he uses his inhale voice for a moment but can't hold a sustainable inhale for any length of time. No one can. Geoff doesn't think of himself as having a 5 octave range, only a 4 octave. Cesar, the guy with the big hair & beard can reach notes as high as Eli can. Cesar has the most theatrical expressions of anyone in the group. That's what makes him so lovable.

I hadn't seen the movie or heard the song. I did go out and look for the original on KZread and listened to it. Geoff, of course, is wonderful, Layne's beatboxing gave it that driving feel, Eli (bald, pronounced ellie, short for Eliezer) with that high tenor is amazing, Cesar (on the right) has a beautiful baritone, and J None (formerly a member) is now singing qqbass with the US Navy. I don't know who did the bass when Geoff was singing higher. Eli has done it in the past, he also has an incredible range. Layne could do it, he can sing lower than Geoff, but it isn't always as pretty, and J was just promoted and transferred to Washington DC and is now singing bass. I guess any of them could, or they could have double tracked Geoff. To my knowledge, they haven't answered that question yet. Great reaction!!

Yea, this *is* from Disney’s retelling of the Hunchback of Notre Dame, the story of a man who simultaneously desires and resents the beautiful Esmeralda. Great comments, especially if you were unfamiliar with the story. Frollo goes from torment (the crackle in his voice) into madness. There is a point just after “burn it” where he looks at his hands as he’s singing “this fire in my skin” as if he is confused by his mania. Then Geoff exposed all the twisted evil of the character. He blames Esmeralda , he blames the devil, and he even blames God. And then🔥🔥🔥. Here is the URL for the Disney version. Dark for Disney, but not as scary as this one! kzread.info/dash/bejne/a3unktKYdMbIqsY.htmlsi=Gt08djm6mvL2zKJ5 Voiceplay did do a cover of Go the Distance from Hercules, but it was before Cesar. The guest star was EJ Cardona from Voctave, a more choral type a cappella group. Oddly enough, his younger brother Omar is Cesar’s best friend and roommate😊. And this shows Geoff’s highest recorded note so far : kzread.info/dash/bejne/gZmCuNBvornWd9I.html

If I were going to do reactions, I would do them the same way you do. Thank you VERY much for doing them this way. Actually, I think you got the message pretty well. No matter who the person is, there are going to be times when you pray something, then realize, "Oh...that's really backwards, isn't it?" So then you change it out, but then you find yourself heading back into the same problem, again and again. So there's actually a lesson in even that part, I would think, but not an easy one to realize. Thanks for the great reaction. It was fun to see it early on Patreon, as well . 😀

Literally 😂 Its the darkest song in Disney's songbook.

Frollo, the character played by Geoff, is possibly the scariest and most evil villain Disney has put on the big screen. His self-righteousness and callous willingness to destroy an entire city and its people over his own lust is a well written critique of the state of the catholic church during that time period. corrupt priests and cardinals that cared more for filling their own pockets then they did faithfully spreading the word of god. I never saw the Disney version, barely remember the 1931(?) movie, so I looked up the story on Wikipedia. 'Such an ugly ending! Disney wouldn't let the mermaid die in The Little Mermaid, so I expect there was a happy-ish ending for their version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, too. This performance is great, anyway.
