That Happy Feeling - Bert Kaempfert

(A personal memory, not trying to win any movie awards here!) Bert Kaempfert's "That Happy Feeling" from the 50's accompanies a great Sunday drive from Flagstaff to Mormon Lake Arizona after a major snow. You can do this easily at eMemoriesMaker.com.

I remember riding with my dad. We gave him an FM converter for his car that only had AM. He was able to listen to his station, WTFM that played Bert Kemphert as well as Andre Kostalonitz(sp?), Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, as well as others. I remember " That Happy Feeling" playing as we drove up to Northern New Jersey in the winter, grounds covered with snow for a weekend at my aunt and uncles house. I watched this video, and was brought back to that exact moment. Thank you.

As a kid in the late 50s & early 60s I remember watching The Sandy Becker Show on channel 4 in New York while he ended his show everyday with this song. I loved waiting for his theme song because it made me feel good listening to it. As I hear it now I can still see my old living room with that Philco B&W TV and my friends sitting on the floor with me. Some are gone now and so is Sandy but this music lives on. Hearing it makes me smile again reliving my childhood, thanks for posting it.

I had heard this song as a kid, but never knew the name of it. When my folks bought a stereo in 1970, it came with an 8 track tape player. We joined the RCA music club and got 8 tapes for 5 bucks and we got a Bert Kaempfert best of tape. When we played it, this was the second song. Well, I was overjoyed. Finally, I had the song.

The ultimate Bert Kaempfert music. This one has so much memories for me I dont even know where to start. My parents used to have this album and as kids would play musical chairs with this. This is back in 1975 by which time this had already been a hit. In Zambia a number of the songs from his album "A Swingin' Safari" were themes on radio and television shows back when we had TVZ! TVZ later became ZBS which then became ZNBC here in Zambia! What sweet nostalgia.

In 1970, the single would be unobtainable). Played that album until it looked and sounded like sandpaper. Good takes on Similau and Sunday in Madrid as well.

I love the bass line of this song- it's what I believe is called a "walking" bass line, and it's so perfect. It's apparently enough of a feature of this song to warrant TWO basses, as well- a standup bass playing that "walk" on the downbeat, and an electric bass being plucked with a pick, adding some rhythmic counterpoint. Such a nicely arranged and perfectly executed piece!

  • @joey_bonin

@@joey_bonin A "percolator" part? I'm not familiar with that term, but I think I understand, and it sounds like a pretty apt term; I like it. The electric bass in this piece seems to dress up the steady downbeat of the standup bass line, giving the song a more jaunty sound with a little bit of a spring to its step.

This song always reminds me of childhood days when Channel 61 in Cleveland would use it as their sign-off song...wow, remember when TV stations used to sign-off ??? 😂😂😂

I found this song on my brother's Uher tape recorder upon his return home after serving in the army stationed in Germany, late 1963. Jim is gone now but this song reminds me of what a wonderful human being he was.

I love listening to Bert Kaempfert. My Mother had the Longein collection. I wore them out listening to them. I always liked all kinds and styles of music. Sence I was a like. I like rock and roll and classical music. I listened to all of them. And I still do. On KZread i can listen to all of them.

Thanks to Bert. The entire album was dedicated to Southern Africa, especially South Africa, Rhodesia, Zambia, Malawi, Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana and Mozambique. The best musical gift in the 60s

That happy feeling was played a lot on many AM radio stations during the summer of 1962 nationwide.
