My wife has a great idea. If you hang peg board from the end of that shelving you could have tools there handy to the entry door and to the work bench. Keep tools there that might not be used often at the bench but you want somewhat close by. The peg board will also help keep things from sliding off the end of the shelf.

I LOVE hanging pegboard in my garage, craft room and sewing room … there is SO much to be said about VERTICAL storage where you can SEE what you have and where it is.

Right?! When Olivia was so cute and little- miss those times. I just watch old ones and there they all are. My grandchildren are having their own kids now. Time goes so quickly.

Brutus is doing quite well with the chicken. What a great disposition he has. Nice to see the barn coming together. Closer to getting the barn done for the farm animals.

You may want to consider anchoring the frame to the wall near the top of each back railing. When there is weight on it it may be tipsy. You could attach. the two shelving units together also

We have the "same" Home Depot shelves purchaced in 2019 for a garage and tool reorganizing effort....Well, 2020 came along with a desire for a more serious food and essentials larder in an enviorment of growing shortages, increasing prices for everything sickness prepsration related, and a semi-unsure guaranteed income. That set of shelves got turned into garage based larder shelves. In late '21 we were reassessing the larder, garage organization, and tool storage. We decided to keep the set of shelves being used for the larder as larder shelves so we would have minimal worries about how how much weight we might put on a single shelf. We are very pleased with what we got.

Brutus is getting bigger! They grow so fast. He's such a happy dog!😊

This type of dog has a double coat and would rather lay out in all weather than in a dog house or bed. They are bred to protect flocks but the only way to teach them to stay with the herd is to raise them in a flock from the time they are weened and trained by the alpha dog to behave and not leave the herd. Sometimes you will hear the alpha disciplining a litter of up to 6 puppies and they are yoaling and crying. These trained dogs are much more expensive to buy than a puppy but a sure way to get one that will behave and not get out on the road. Never being inside and spoiled by a human is really important. They should never be given the status of a pet. Once they learn their job they can be relied on to protect your animals to the death from predators on the ground and even winged ones such as crow and will bark at strangers as well. I like the fact that a good one will display a very clear message that you will be attacked if you go over the fence by barking and snarling but if accompanied by the owner they are all good and will wag the tail with no aggressive behavior.

every trip to town for visiting suppliers costs a lot of time and money in fuel and has to be maximised for benefits and reduced in number and yes provides opportunities for communication with others and a coffee shop visit of course. Cant wait to see Brutus with the house pets and interacting together. great work on the corners and allowing chickens to roam and find bugs. totally agree colour isn't an issue with shelving when you can get utility and savings from them. adding outlets now great idea along with storage and organisation of tools absolutely essential. Bet Olivia is a firm friend of Brutus lol

Those little dents in that metal trim you were working on could have been easily removed with a flat (hardwood) block of wood and a flat surface to work on. Or you could use some common body repair tools. Don't let it drive you crazy ... but, by the time you see my comment, you have already put it up.

Morning y'all! Just to share, with my 50 by 70 shop that has many large sliding doors. On the outside, I have rebarb hammered into the ground for extra protection for the doors during high winds. I have pvc over the rebarb for looks and to protect the metal. You could match the color to your barn.

Brutus will be a wonderful breed mix. We had a full blooded Anatolian shepherd and he was one of the best dogs we've ever had. Sadly we had to say good bye to him last year which I still get emotional over.

Hello there, David! 5:29 am. And 52°F with a Real feel of 48° here in Central Minnesota! The weather is trying to lull us into believing it's Spring. Yeah. Right. There are records going back to the 1800's. The only month that it hasn't snowed in Minnesota is August. It probably did, and no one bothered to record it. I hope next winter we get a lot of snow. Yep' one shelf was built wrong, cause 3 of the 4 ends match, I doubt Al will correct, because the holes in concrete wouldn't be exact ( offset about 3/4" diagonally ) and that could create an elongated hole, if adjusted while keeping the same spot, So' both ends get Pegboard or Plywood to make the error less conspicuous ! I would locate a plug-outlet nearby doorway, expecially since the wiring was run ! It is neat that the Shelves Red matched the Tractors Red for those who persistently complain that Tractor should be moved inside and outside daily for no apparent reason !

Nice video! I dare you to do the ice plunge! Hahaha! I love Brutus he is a good addition to the family!

To make it easier to fill the feed bins, you might be interested in a "Kik-Step" a step stool on retractable wheels. It can be put aside when not in use and is easily "kicked aorund to whre it is needed.

I like that idea too. Al's idea to just pour the feed bags directing into the bins off the tailgate to the truck could work too except for super windy days and pouring down rain. That ladder would be a good back-up system. Have a great week!

Hi Lumnah’s Dog training. I’ve watched you and here’s some pointers Since you use a dogs name to get attentions then sit and figure out 1 word for a command Brutus- attention Come- to come. Say once Sit- to sit Stay- to stay Down- to lay down Off- to get off you or xxx And so forth. Release- A good way to start with sit and stay. Every time you feed. Have him sit and stay while you put the food dish down. You can in read the sit stay as he knows what to do and as he’s growing up I start this with every dog from day one. Now at 14 mos old my hyper little dog can sit and stay for at lease 5 minutes. And she can sit and stay while I walk out the door and grab something and come back in. Or if someone is come in she will wait to be released

I just love Al's "Make it work" attitude. That seems to be a real necessity for a successful Homestead. 👍

I never comment BUT, I had shelving just like yours and I butted them up just like you did BUT being so close you have created a dead zone in that one corner, you have the room to pull the shelf all the way to the door opening that will give you enough to slip in there for better handling, just an idea, that's what I did. looking forward to future things. On the ends of your shelves don't install plywood. Install steel mesh similar to the shelf mesh. You will be able to see through it. instead of customizing and changing plywood hangers for tools you can bend rigid wire and rearrange tools at will. Rabbit wire might do the trick.

Getting Booties on the Chickens would be a task, the Sheep would stand for it, but the Goats will just chew them off, not so bad putting on the Cow, but putting Booties on the Bull be just fun to watch !

Next building project should be another greenhouse (like on the old property) so the chickens can’t get at your garden & so you can have fresh food in winter

Al, Just a suggestion, if you anchor a pt bottom plate to the concrete slab on three sides of the bins it will keep them in place while opening and closing the bins

Not a strong late winter upper air regime thru 3/24 upper air is WNW with weak short waves. Seasonal mud season is 40 daytime and below freezing overnight. Have to get those rocks up out of the ground for spring planting. 3/15: weak Great Lakes wave with rain, snow in St Lawrence Valley. 3/17 weak Great Lake wave with rain. 3/19 moderate wave in the mid Atlantic with snow in southern New England. 3/24 moderate Great Lakes wave rain storm.

You only need to put anchors in the back on your shelving.

Good morning Lumnah family from a sunny Pacific NW. Good morning viewers. I'm glad you're getting the corners up on the outside of the barn. Too bad some of them were dented. It's cute watching Brutus lick the snow. Darn, the chickens got the garlic. I love free ranging my chickens but that meant we had to put a lot of covers over the garden plots and fences. That online pricing is crazy. I bet you're right, the boxes were done wrong so they wanted to clear them out. I got a really nice metal glider for our deck and the seat had been painted backwards from the rest and it was really cheap too. I like the red shelves. I like how you anchored them down. That whole corner with the shelves and the feeder bins looks like it will work great for your mineral and feed needs. You got Brutus an antler to chew? Did Gina find that antler? That latch for the pig area is great to keep the pigs from lifting the gate. Good idea Al! Thanks for this video Lumnah family. I didn't really notice that something didn't work like you thought it would. Was that the dented corners?

When Brutus gets big enough he needs a headcam to get some wild video footage as he roams around the property. Heck, he could have his own YT channel.
