That 80s Clean Sound- Richard Marx- Endless Summer Nights Guitar Cover

Ойын-сауық

Visiting a guitar tone that I used to dislike but have come to love in recent years…. the 80s clean sound heard on countless AOR recordings.
What better way to showcase this tone than the awesome Richard Marx track Endless Summer Nights.
Originally performed by studio session legend Michael Landau!
I used a Sterling by Music Man Silo neck/middle pickup setting going into an Atomic Amplifire AA3
- Compressor
- Fender Twin amp model
- graphic eq boosting the 5-8k
- 4 voice stereo chorus
- Reverb (swimming in it)
- ping pong delay tap tempo-ed to the track
- cab bypassed
Enjoy!

Excellent playing and excellent tone! Do you mind sharing where you got the backing track? Thanks.

The video guitar tone sounds great, spot on to the recording....however, I don't know what is you and what is the recording you have in the background. And let me suggest that the 80's clean guitar sound is anything but clean. In my mind, clean implication is that guitar sound is not modulated by pedals, overdrive on amp, or digital effects on the rig. Marx' song in my mind has at least chorus, delay and possibly another effect to embellish the tone on this song. That isn't a clean guitar, by any stretch. But, it is a great tone and it is symbolic of the era, indeed.

I think what the majority of people mean when they say 80's clean is without distortion or a tone of gain. 80's clean tone was known for having tons of effects in the chain just no overdirive.
