It's hard to know where the ballot boxes go once they leave the polling station. Box swaps can easily happen and this concern has been highlighted by other candidates in previous elections. Add that to the busloads of migrants being brought to vote for a specific mainstream party candidate and basically you have a rigged system against any form of genuine opposition.

That's a good point. A similar candidate in another area narrowly missed out too but he said next time he will be targeting those who feel voting makes zero difference. That was 50% of people in Donegal, needing to be encouraged...... somehow.

Hard luck Niall. I think the most gutting part of this is how close some nationalist candidates came to taking their last council seat. You in Donegal, Michelle Keane in Kerry and Stephen Kerr in Mayo all pushed it to the wire. The positive is that there is a solid base of support that's only going to grow.
