If possible, would you mind explaining the algorithm thing a bit to me? i mean, i kind of know what an algorithm is, or I think I know - youtube kind of senses the content you're interested in based on your views and puts more similar content in your feed, right? but i've been watching food youtube videos pretty regularly for a couple of years and ethan just started coming up in the last three weeks or so. Before I even heard of him, I was subscribed to Joshua Weissman, Babish, Bon Appetit, Pro Home Cooks, and a few others. What I don't get is why did Ethan's videos just blow up in the last few weeks if he's been making them for over a year? It's like the KZread gods just decided to bestow upon him a golden ticket, but I don't get the timing.

@@mistertunde Yeah, that's the fundamental idea of an algorithm and is likely why we both ended up here, but the youtube algorithm has a lot of other weird intricacies. "It's like the KZread gods just decided to bestow upon him a golden ticket" that's pretty much it haha. I'm not sure anyone truly understands the algorithm. There are often trends in titles that people realise are successful and will try to emulate, i.e "I did *THIS* and *THIS* happened" is a template that became popular recently. Now that I think about it, as simple as it sounds, his video that blew up was titled "I Remastered Adam Raguesa's Crispy Oven Fries." which while innocuous enough, does fit the "I Did A Thing" title template. Like if you search "I cooked-" you'll see a bunch of really popular videos starting with that.

I subscribed to Joshua when he was at 80k subscribers. 6 months later he reached 1 million. A week ago I discovered this channel, when he was around 80k as well. Now he is at 123k. So I agree, this is just the beginning.

Have you thought about how to protect yourself from potential shifts in YT policy when it comes to income generation? One thing Philip DeFranco talks about on his show is how frequently YT has pulled the rug out from under creators. He always urges people to expand their income streams (sponsors and merchandise for example) to smooth out potential disruptions.

I'm dead serious, I saw your channel like 2 weeks ago or so and was genuinely confused on how you had 20k subs. And ever since I check your account every day and seeing you getting all this attention now gets me so hyped xD Well done man!
