Thank you, and goodbye. Now it's your turn.

My dear Out of Frame supporters.
On this special, final edition of Out of Frame, I want to take some time to thank you, talk about the future, discuss the state of ideas, and highlight the Steven Spielberg’s 1997 movie “Amistad” - which turns out to be the perfect vehicle for some of the things I want to say as I close out the show.
Freedom is the birthright, and the desire of virtually everyone on the planet, and yet the enemies of liberty are everywhere - power-hungry politicians and bureaucrats, “strong men” authoritarians, technocrats, socialists, and cowardly citizens - so the battle to maintain a world built on individual liberty and the dignity of human beings will never be definitively won for all time.
Fighting for a free society requires a passionate, energetic minority to carry the torch and persuade others with open hearts and open minds. It’s a task I’ve dedicated my life towards, and I’m leaving FEE and this series so that I can work on even bigger projects and try to make an even greater impact than I hope I’ve had here.
So with this final episode of Out of Frame, I wanted to challenge you to pick up where I’m leaving off. It’s YOUR turn to get creative, and I can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Cheers,
Sean W. Malone

Also, I first saw Amistad in my Rhode Island History class in 12th Grade in part because the Capitol scenes were filmed in our State Capital of Providence, and it was as gripping as it was enlightening.

It did get me thinking, perhaps one of the issues we have nowadays is we often discourage empathy in favour of blind faith to the cause. We hear people say things like "You could _never_ understand *our* experiences, so just shut up, listen and believe". A good ally to a cause nowadays is not someone who supports said cause from trying to put themselves in another's shoes, but someone who recognises they could never really empathise with the other person, and perhaps it's even offensive to try, and therefore the solution is not attempt to empathise at all, and simply go along with those who the cause directly affects. Having their own opinions or positions isn't valid, because in the eyes of the cause they can never empathise, they can never put themselves in the positions of others. They must simply believe whatever they are told to believe. So the idea of using cinema as a powerful tool for empathy may be antithetical to the modern sensibilities of social justice. Anyway, best of luck in your future endeavour Sean, you've always offered an interesting perspective on media and other topics.

I must say this series was quite the refreshing experience especially since I first discovered it before I graduated college. My college was filled with so many activists who refused to be open to ideas outside of their worldview and they made it look like people like me are just a minority. These videos actually gave me the courage to speak up during the "open forum" sections of their rallies and ask the hard-hitting questions that they refuse to answer which, in turn, gave courage to other fellow students who also had questions. It's sad that the series is over but I'm glad it happened. You inspired me to speak despite it looking like my worldview was a minority. So thank you my good sir and Godspeed on your next endeavor. I hope I get to see what you have planned next.

As one human being to another: I love you. Be well my friend! Maybe those of us on team liberty shouldn’t keep trying to force everyone else to accept freedom and instead we should go our own way. If our tribe isn’t like theirs and we want different things: let’s not fight, let’s separate.

The anti libertarian mindset cannot accept that. If you walk away, they loose power over you, which is not acceptable to them. An anti libertarian is the type of person who will shoot someone to stop them from living without them. They are the ones who would shoot down a rocket leaving earth, because they cannot allow someone else to exist beyond their reach. It's evil.

I can actually agree with this one. My only complaint is true separation that will be required for us cannot happen until we are multi planetary, with self sufficient space stations etc. While we are on the same planet some culture will want to dominate another. Some person will wish to control another

  • @BobWidlefish

@@spencervance8484 the barrier to people going their own way is organization, not ability. Consider: if 100 million people woke up tomorrow believing with the devotion of a religious cult that they must cooperate to form their own version of Switzerland they could trivially buy an island or build one and become an independent nation. If you have 100 million people fully committed to use all their time and money and lives to pursue such a goal, nothing could stop them. Note historical conflicts like Vietnam and Afghanistan where relatively small numbers of minimally trained people with limited small arms and home field advantage repelled the most powerful military in world history. Currently there are something like 200 countries. That demonstrates there is no firm ability to stop nations from existing if they’re suitably organized and have some basic level of resources. I agree with you that space habitats or off world living would be even better and likely in some sense easier. Though it’s not a requirement at all.

I doubt if anyone will read this but I feel like the story needs to be shared, sorry for the long post. Sean, I want to take a moment and say thank you for all you have done for me the last few years. You have entertained while putting into words so many things and concepts I knew but couldn't express, and a great deal that I didn't know. You've helped broaden my horizons with movie and book recommendations I would not have otherwise seen. I even consider you a good reason as to how I got my life to where it is now. At the end of last year my life was at its lowest point. I was underemployed, still living with my parents and contemplating suicide as the weight of the shit show that was my 2021 pushed me to my breaking point. I had basically stopped eating, and taking care of myself and was falling to pieces. I had just turned 23 and was basically a complete failure to launch. In January things were looking up as I had finally gotten enough money and time to continue school at UMD. Literally 2 hours after I got my class schedule together an announcement went out that all students had to be vaccinated and boosted to attend classes and that there would be no acceptations. They announced this 2 weeks before the start of classes so that no one would be able to put up a proper challenge to it quick enough. I had already surrendered my ethics once taking the first jab against my wishes so I could work and attend school. I was spitting mad because for the first time in months I wasn't scared about tomorrow, and then a new wall got dropped in my way. It was this series and its frequent message of standing up for one's beliefs that helped me decide to withdraw from UMD, and move to Texas. It literally got so bad that I packed up the car to move before I had a job lined up. I was that sick and tired of the planning and research and trying to set things up from a continent away. Now a few months later I am back in school at UTSA, living on my own, and working a better job for nearly twice the pay I made at any other job I've had. I have never been happier in my entire life and finally have a clear path forward for the first time since early 2020. From the very bottom of my heart: thank you for all you have done. If you ever find yourself in San Antonio then I owe you a beer.

Either from the choice to be a hero in your iron giant video, or to your review of the Incredibles. Your videos are always good. I truly wished you would continue. There are so many more stories which could use your review. From stuff like the green mile to 12 angry men. They all would be great for you to review. I love these videos. I have been on a journey of discovery since the 2020 election. What freedom and liberty mean to me today is thanks in part to what I have learned from your videos. I pray success over you in your coming endeavors. May the author of truth and Liberty bless you and make himself know to you as he has me. God Bless you and your work.

This series has helped me to be better informed about the world around us. Sean has helped me to better formulate my ideas and beliefs to other people. I love how he used creative works to speak about the controversies and problems our society faces. He is helping to push for better film making where freedom of what we make is the priority and to do it respectfully. Thank you Sean and FEE.

I didn’t discover your channel until a couple months ago, but I really appreciate your nuanced and in depth look at films. They’re informative, enjoyable, and unique among the never ending stream of video essays here on YT. It’s sad to see you go so shortly after I discovered this series, but I think you’ll do great things with your projects moving forward. I’m at a bit of a crossroads in my life being halfway through college. I have many creative interests like drawing, music, and language learning, but as I get busier with my degree and job hunting I realize how little time I’m going to have to pursue these things. My own perfectionism, pipe dreams, and self doubt holds me back from really working on the things that make me happy. Videos like these that remind me that I shouldn’t stay paralyzed by failure or an unattainable perfect result, but rather embrace the process of learning and the enjoyment that comes from it. Thank you.
