When did Thames stop using the national anthem upon closedown? Actually, did they ever?

The summer of 1986 seems to have only been during the second half of the June of that year.

The way that Methodist minister spoke about the late President Sadat, it's almost as if he knew at the time of meeting him that he was about to be killed. Special Branch should have given him a good grilling.

What does “Pattern A” mean at the top of the Tuesday line-up slide @ 11:25?

No idea. Perhaps it was in case the football went over time and they couldn't show the following programmes, so they needed a backup Pattern B? Gawd knows lol

In TV and Radio Times, during World Cup knockout stages - where results of group stages were still unknown at time of going to press - would publish alternative schedules labelled A or B. BBC and ITV would then agree which pattern to follow. It was a gentlemans agreement to prevent duplication as both channels had equal rights to the whole tournament and so could equally show the same games live competing against each other. It still happens today.

Domine Wimbury yeah - Today it’s less formal, they will just say “Football” and “No Football”. They’ve just got rid of the algebra!

During World Cups ITV and the BBC often publish two schedules because they don't know which matches they'll be showing in the knockout rounds. The TV listsings magazines will have 'pattern A' and 'pattern B' and then nearer the time they announce who's got what
