    As a thai, they have different system. Technically after she was done in Nursing, she got straight to Med School (4 years). They may have problem in the UK system so if she goes to UK she needs to do the 2+4 MBBS (2 yrs basic foundation +4yrs medical school). Hence it is easier for her to go to Phil school.

    It's 12 years just like in America because the Americans setup the Philippines medical school system. 4 years BS in biology/chemistry or physics. 4 years MD degree. 4 years residency. In Thailand, it's 6 years MD program but only a high school diploma is needed (no BS in the sciences is required). Medical schools in the Philippines are taught in English, just like the US.

    I think you are wrong, medical school in Philippines is 9 yrs. After senior high school you need to take a pre med course like BS Biology, Nursing, Medtech, Pharmacy, Radiology and others which is 4 years then 4 yrs proper for medicine and 1 yr. post intern graduate a total of 9 yrs. Then take the board exam. After passing the board exam you need to undergo a resident physician for about 2 to 3 yrs then after that a specialization for 4 to 5 yrs and so forth. What you ate saying is in Thailand only 6 yrs to study in medicine.

  • @jemuellen

    @jemuellen

    Ай бұрын

    @@angelicasevilla5586 It's 8 years. After completing the 4-year medicine proper program you are already a doctor and eligible for taking the medical board exams. A board passer may then practice independently as a general practitioner once granted licensure. Many, however, opt to train further as *interns* (also known as first-year residents) and subsequently as residents to further hone their skills. After completing residency you may decide to pursue further studies/training in a sub-specialty with the aim of becoming a fellow and ultimately earn a diplomate.

    @@jakexake2940correction: nowadays here in the Philippines, any bachelor’s degree you have can qualify you to take Medicine, though most of the schools require NMAT to enter, some use it to rank student applicant especially if they limit the number of the enrolees. Further, 8 years is the minimum length plus 1 year PGI, and the number of years for residency training varies on the chosen specialization with 4 years the least plus sub-specializations that require another 2-3 years.

    The only reason is, it is cheaper and easier to get into, as long as you have all the requirements, you’re set. In countries like the US, there’s a lot of barriers, expensive tuition fees and it is very competitive to get into. You will need tons of requirements and you should be one of the best in order for a med school to accept you. Meanning they will also check if you take AB calc, chem during hs and have good grades. Not to mention all the shadowing you need to have as a requirement as well. There’s just so much requirements on top of a very expensive tuition fee, though student loan is there but the amount you will need to borrow will be huge.

    Because Philippine med school is patterned to the American med school curriculum. The books used in Philippine med schools are from American authors and the medium of instruction is English. More likely than not, the main goal of some of the foreign medical students in the Philippines is to be an IMG Physician in the US. Philippine med schools are expensive (esp. for us Filipinos), but it is still way cheaper and easier to get into compared to the US.

  • @BluishHuntress

    @BluishHuntress

    I would also add that being an IMG Physician makes it hard to get into a lucrative medical residency such as Surgery. Not to mention, USMLE (US Physician Board Exam) is very expensive and lengthy as it could take years to pass all steps. That's why more Filipino Doctors who wish to work in the US would opt to become a Nurse or Medical Laboratory Scientists instead.
