An adverb is a word that adds more information to a sentence! They act like little helpers, giving details about:
adverb :
Verbs: How something happens.
Example: The horse ran quickly across the field. (Quickly describes how the horse ran.)
Adjectives: To what extent something is true.
Example: The dress was very pretty. (Very emphasizes how pretty the dress was.)
Other adverbs: Adding another layer of detail.
Example: She spoke softly but clearly. (Softly modifies spoke, and clearly modifies softly.)
Entire sentences: Expressing an overall tone or mood.
Example: Fortunately, it stopped raining before the picnic. (Fortunately describes the lucky turn of events for the picnic.)
