Hua Cheng is trying so hard not to cry and turning away so Xie Lian can’t see him almost cry, and then E Ming just rats him out like that, weeping and chirping sadly.

I'm interested to hear the emotion James puts into the lines in english cause his voice makes Hua Cheng pretty sassy but I haven't really heard him frustrated as Hua Cheng so I"m looking forward to that.

The grabing of the waist and then the sound of leting it go was like "we will give you romance but not too much"

Hua Cheng comming in like "Sorry you are not locking up my boyfreind on my watch." And then Xie Lian apologizing for paradice manor and Hua Cheng just being like "never mind that. I hurt you!" Ugh. I think i fainted.

They fed us so well this week it was worth the wait

The part with the butterflies was soooo pretty! Meanwhile Feng Xin yelling that they're dangerous and Xie Lian is just giving a butterfly a kiss.

The fengqing this week was immaculate

When E’ming cried I had to leave the room omg someone give the sweet baby puppy a hug

*fengqing fighting* “ok these two need to kiss” also wow that was gay

I just found out that Wind Master's voice actor is the same as audiodrama Wei Wuxian and that makes so much sense...

I noticed in the episode before they went into Ghost City that the liquor pot SQX was drinking from was the same design as the donghua Emperor’s Smile pot. I think that was an Easter egg.

The fact we got both the wrist grab from the book and the waist grab from the manwha IN THE DOUNGUA! Truly a blessing. Also, next episode we may see everyone's favorite cousin.

It broke my heart seeing E-ming on the verge of tears Like AH E-ming my precious baby😭😭😭😭

I think Lang Qianqiu only said he finished with the writing because he wanted to have his Guoshi teach him about the sword move. There was no way he could have finished withen those 5 seconds 😂

Eming crying at the end really broke my heart😭

SO MUCH in this episode. SO MUCH. The Fengxin flashback and the horror of the Guilded Banquet scene! Mu Qing trying to hide how much he really cared and worried about XL. Mu Qing and Feng Xian’s brawl, which was hilarious. The entrance of the silver butterflies, which was majestic! Hua Cheng being a snark god to the Heavenly Officials in the Communication Array! And finally, the mutual sorrow and heartbreak at the very end, capped off by a weeping E-Ming! This is the best episode of the ENTIRE donghua yet!

Hua Cheng and Eming looked do emotional at the end i replayed it like ten times i was squealing and screeching like a dehydrating/starving animal 😭 I also feel that Eming is genuinely upset that Xie Lian got injured bcuz of them 😭

I screamed so loud when Hua Cheng grabbed Xie Lian's waist that I scared my cat who was on my lap 😭 poor baby jumped in the air

Seeing Xie Lian as the Imperial Preceptor is incredible.

Next week we got florida man! Danmei edition!

Seeing xie lian in teacher mode did things to me. I imagine if Hua Cheng saw it he would be giggling and kicking his feet.

The last scene of this episode was the first highlight scenes in the book for me that really portrayed how much the one cares for the other because before this, as Kictor mentioned, its the first kinda clash between the two where they aren't necessarily on the same page so the unresolved tension and the unknown reaction of Hua Cheng just made it that much better when he reveals how he actually felt - absolutely distraught over hurting Xie Lian, even if unintentionally. The scene meant so much to me and they it justice, like chefs kiss - I even teared up a little. Ahhh I ate well today.

I wanted to cry when I saw E-ming, the poor baby 😢 I can't wait to see the dub version of this episode and Qi Rong soon Along with your reaction to episode 5 dub

When I first watched this episode I couldn't wait to see what you would say about how Hua Cheng is reacting to Xie Lian. I could hear you both going "awww, E-Ming's crying! You made E-Ming cry!"

Sth I've had in my mind the whole time is I'd title Xie Lian as "the child protector" instead of the god of scrap collecting. Bc the whole series is just him trying to save multiple kids! Idk why it never made into the books, he's basically babysitting in every era of his life: Hong hong-er, qi rong, banyue, lan qianqiu, lan ying (the bandaged kid), guzi, also kinda quan yizhen (god xie lian protecting your children in life AND death) Anyways, I'm kinda new here but you two are so fun to watch, looking forward to next ep and thanks for the fun content!

I had to rewatch the final minute or so twice and I was in TEARS. So much emotion is conveyed so well right at the end.

just imagine, we're at Ep 6 now and another 6 Eps is going to end this season...then probably till 2025 only we can see them again on S3...i can't wait! and the million butterflies flew in...just so beautifully romantic...😭

I hope it won't take that long. I'm pretty sure the second season was delayed because Xie Lian's voice actor went to jail and they had to replace him.

I love that we’re starting to get hints of the MQ/FX background. So far, we’ve only seen them sneer at XL, although despite that, they appeared as minor officials to help him. Is it obvious to those who have not read the book that the disguised officials at Banyue etc are MQ and FX? Now we’re getting more info that they used to be close, and they have some beef about abandoning XL. So much more backstory there.
